I'm a former Marine. I joined in 82. I first heard P.H.19 while in, and although I was blessed not to see combat, especially Vietnam. This song is a very very powerful true to life reminder of what my brothers went through both over seas and when they came home. Tears come to my eyes nearly everytime I hear this awesomely produced song. Thank you Paul. R/S Ron Cantrell. U.S.M.C.
@@SteveAJonesEntertainment Thank you to all of you for your service. I love this song too. I was little at the time of Vietnam war, but I still remember it. God bless you.
This sings makes me realize that the war is a waste of lifes, time n is a, shame for human kind. My respects for every single human wasted at wars back then n now this song is a jewel, since I heard it for the firts time I was hooked to it.
It's a song that still resonates nearly 40 years after it was first recorded. Of all the features on my channels, it is by far the upload that continues to receive the most comments.
I was obsessed with 19. I made my own versions of it splicing tapes together recorded form vinly and the radio versions I could not afford (german Maxi etc). I made the same hour long mixes of FGTH Two tirbes from 12" purchases and then I listened to on my way to work.
Born March 24 1961....Remember watching this on tv, Moon landing, civil rights marches riots Detroit, La,Philadelphia, 4 dead in OHIO, CUBIN Missile crises, cold war turbulent times.
I found it again 1 week ago, and since then *listening to this constantly* !!! (The 50' remix goes down, then I start over...) Ecstatic! (I'm 68 years old and make it robot-break dance...) Madness! PS: I was a teenager and young adult during the Vietnam War (in a 'socialist' country, Hungary...) and I had mixed feelings about the war... On the one hand, I was delighted to see the American 'war arsenal' (B-52, Phantom F-4, etc., etc.), while we (Hungarians) were 'conditioned' to sympathize with the Vietnamese... Vietnam was a really dirty war, but 'yenkees' so self-critical what he praises is that they were that they saw this - even in the hinterland. And the 'music' of the Vietnam era is undoubtedly phenomenal! (Not only that.) (I'm Sorry for poory english...)
God bless payed killers!? Honor!? Sacrifice!? Victims are all people outside the U.S. - Like now in the Ukraine! And all Europeans because of busting our natural gas piplienes! U.S. politicans, deep state, and military have no honor at all! And look at the degeneration of your w*men / society due to the lies of f*minism... The whole U.S. peaople are victims of deep state / elites / money / stock exchanges!
This song has got to be my favorite piece of music to make it out of the year of 1985. Running Up That Hill is a close second. It reminds me of Beetlejuice. I should remember them both. Thank heavens for them!
Está canción es como él relató de todos los soldados que vivieron ésos eventos la canción se escucha como loca es la única forma de describir la guerra ninguna guerra es buena en la mente de estás personas siguen luchando esa guerra honduras supe él relató de la canción en español
Assuming KIAs accurately represented age groups serving in Vietnam, the average age of an infantryman (MOS 11B) (combat soldier) serving in Vietnam is actually 22. However, according to Paul Hardcastle, who wrote this song, 19 is chosen because it flows better musically as a lyric.
It does not diminish the fact they were far too young to die, not that any age is appropriate to die in combat. Most American wars are based on lies and misinformation, war is big business. Try Diplomacy!!!
They were drafted by the age of 19. All who did not want to volunteer were drafted. They drew social security numbers for the draft. I was still a little girl when it ended in the 70s. I remember the protest of college students against the war.
Actually, Paul Hardcastle didn't 'choose it'. All samples were taken from the ABC documentary 'Vietnam Requiem' from 1982. It can be found here: ruclips.net/video/0hv9glzf560/видео.htmlfeature=shared
As ah bigg fan of this dude, I played this tune .... blasting music over, over, etc!!!! I lost my number of family to this " white man's war"!! Damn it!!.......ah real bastardized " undeclared war!!
wouldve sounded better if the foriegn versions wernt all together , ie anormal version ,then foriegn , then normal ect.... but still, a brilliant listen especially how theres no gaps in between tracks , its like one long megaversion .

Still rocking in 23. The German version is decent, a bit Kraftwerky. But the French version 😂

@@Caffeine_Club I'm referring to Paul choosing "19" for use in the lyrics, not the narration he sampled.

Absolutely. In my opinion it mimics the sound of an M-16 firing. The M-16 was their standard issue rifle.
