This is my favorite Phil Ochs song, it reminds me of "Song of the Old Communist" by Leon Rosselson. It can certainly be depressing fighting against seemingly insurmountable odds, but we will succeed!
I’m pretty sure Song Of The Old Communist is satire about those who devote their whole life to the “cause” and have nothing to show for it, but the memories of their glory days
@@WasThisMail Certainly, there is that element of satire I think as there is in most Rosselson songs, but consider this quote from Leon himself: "This [Song of the Old Communist] is for those people of my father's generation whose lives were lit by much burning faith, guided by such absolute conviction that they must now be desolated by the way history seems to have reversed itself." or "Many - like my father who died just before the collapse of everything he believed in - kept the faith, despite the deceits, the disappointments, the defeats, convinced that history was on their side, that their dream of a more just and humane society would ultimately triumph." I don't think that Song of the Old Communist was a satirircal piece directed towards those old communists, though that can be one interpetation. Regardless of the interpretation, the style of I'm Tired reminds me of Leon Rosselson.
@@WasThisMailI don’t think so, Leon is an avowed communist. I think it’s meant to represent the valor that communists hold in the face of the eternal struggle.
I doubt if even Phil could find words to describe this, but I know he would have appreciated it. Thank you for showing my forever hero this level of respect. God bless Phil and God bless you. Thank you.

@@WasThisMail No problem! Your interpretation sounds really interesting, still.
