Cannot wait to get my hands on a bottle...I still have a bit of Jim's first bottling 23.10.01 (2001 Resurrection)...which is a real treat! I'll be sad once it's gone. Thank you for reviewing The Classic Laddie!
The first time I had this, it was in a flight of other Bruichladdich stuff, so it was a total candy dish after the Port Charlotte. Love this stuff so much, I break this out for the peat haters.
Thank you for a very informative and interesting review. I have been a Bruichladdich fan, ever since I saw the original House of Cards with Ian Richardson. This drum's profile is close to Bunnahabhain 12, briny, coastal, very light peat.
Bought a bottle for my buddy as a gift and never got to try it. Sounds like my kinda Scotch! Thanks for the review! Hunting for a ‘15 sounds like the ticket.
Still my favorite distillery and tour I’ve been on, I got to sit and enjoy a chat and a dram drawn from warehouse 5 drawn by Adam Hannet. Was an amazing experience. I think the classic laddie is another awesome rendition of a really well balanced bourbon matured whisky. Ticks all the boxes for NCF and NC and the nice abv. Another cracking video as always and looking forward to next weeks review. Slainte, Kev
Quality content and great info. I have been eyeballing The Classic Laddie for the last few years, but keep skipping it for another bottle i am chasing. Its time to finally grab a bottle and enjoy it.
Awesome review with tons of info! I'm quite enjoying my Adam Hannett bottle. There is a proportion of French wine cask matured whisky in it that seems to give it a white wine vinegar astringency ontop of a big vanilla base. 20/163 code. I've not had any previous bottlings to compare it to unfortunately.
I'm a newbie to this one, but now that I have a bottle I keep turning to it. It has a lively tangy farmy unpasteurised honey nature to it. There's something appealing about a stereotypical 'vanilla' whisky style done right
I really enjoyed your review and connected with it. The first time I had the Classic Laddie was as kind of an epiphany as huge as the day I tasted Lagavulin 16 for the first time. A floral and fruity single malt from Islay! Even now it is amongst my favorites, specially in its price range. Also, from Bruichladdich the Bere Barley 2010 is, in my opinion, a step up of the Classic Laddie - so very good! Bruichladdich continues to do very nice single malts, including in the peated ones. Cheers Shayla.
Awww thanks Bruno! I can't wait to try Bere barley! Bruichladdich is going to be my fav for awhile! :) I have a bottle of Laga 16 waiting for me, I can't wait.
I can follow you very well with your melon and apricot! The coconut I do not get. All in all it is great to see someone who is similarly excited about this whisky as I am. And your description of the … well, I’d call it “Laddie Funk” with the sweet brine is great. Thanks! I completely understand you. The Freshness is coming back in the laddies - sometimes I’m missing the freshness of the old bottles they did from the stock they bought. But it is coming back, I believe. Up to now I haven’t had a Hannet bottle.
Pfalzgraf, Yeah I think it may just be my mind playing tricks on me, if cocnut is there it is just a hint! It's so fun when people get similar notes to me. I know everyone experiences whisky differently. Laddie Funk is a great description, haha I really love it. And you get the freshness too, I'm glad some of you have mentioned you know what I mean.
I passed this up last time at liquor store. unfortunately because of the bottle I didn't like that it was a solid colored thing. Thanks for doing the review on this one I will definitely get one of these someday. Whiskey CHEERS.
I'm glad you like this. Got one myself early in my malt Scotch journey and loved it. Get one every summer as it's great for hot weather dramming (and the bottle is the color of a swimming pool too) The website disclosure is great but as you can see the age of all but the youngest casks has been blacked out. This is a recent thing as before when I checked mine found they were 8-12 year old casks. I think the SMWA made them hide the age of all but the youngest casks and this is complete BS !!! I applaud them blacking them out so it is obvious they were forced to do this. Yes the ones bottled in 18/19/20 also have some wine casks too. This is underrated and have done side by sides with other more expensive special releases and prefer the classic laddie. Cant wait to see what you think of the Port Charlotte 10. Cheers Shayla
Yeah I saw that the info had been redacted and I assumed the Scotch Whisky Association had a hand in it. It's great that they're being as transparent as they can. I am excited to try a new laddie and see how it compares. The PC 10 is lovely. It will be out this Friday! Yeah I keep reaching for it, its very warm here and it has a summer vibe to it for sure. Cheers!
Shayla, After enjoying Bunnahabhain 12 so much, have wanted to try this baby. Waiting on a Glenallachie 10 year CS right now and then Kilkerran 12. But will get to this one!! Cheers!
@@whiskycentral I was about to comment when you were talking about the coastal qualities of this classic laddie without all the peat. If you like classic laddie i'm sure you'll like bunna 12, it is more sherry forward, but It is one of my favorite whiskies :)
Mark Reynier and Jim McEwan were honestly bound to come together. Rock stars. It would be neat if you could get your hands on one of Reynier's Waterford bottlings
@@whiskycentral He posted something along the lines of he was getting restless and it was time to buy another distillery - and went and bought Waterford. Bottling at 50% and advertising heavily on terroir. Kind of a Reynier mark, I guess.
Thanks for this fun overview, Shayla. I popped down to my corner shop and picked up a wee 200 ml Classic Laddie. 17/144, Adam Hannett, 7-ish years. 53 Bourbon casks 10 Rhône red wine hogsheads 5 Spanish red wine hogsheads 1 PX sherry butt I'll pour a dram tonight for some ST:TNG episodes that my partner has curated for me. Cheers!
@@whiskycentral Quite a different experience with this one. The color is best described as "Uric", and the palate is bitter like a radish. I don't know if you have ever accidentally tasted perfume or eaten a geranium, but it's like that. Yeah I had this alongside PC 10 and it is so sweet! Laddie has a light whisper but I think that would be a great intro to a peat hater! :)
I love this whiskey. Everytime I have it all I can think of is fresh baked bread and citrus notes.
Just grabbed a Adam Hannett Batch 21/011 ( 2021 bottling)....looking forward to opening it....great review..Cheers

Always wanted to try the Classic Laddie and you made it sound delicious 🤤
I hope you like it when you try it. :) Cheers 🥂
Great review! Thanks for the history. Learned a lot. Need to try this.
I get a little coconut as well. And apricot and honey. I get a lot of honey. Probably my favorite non-peated Scotch.

That bottle is my first love in scotch whisky.
It's so wonderful
you forgot black art :) oh and the glasses they have sit really nice in the hand too.
I love Port Charlotte, but find Classic Laddie incredibly uninteresting. Very good video, BTW.
The fresh crispness is due to the fact that this is a young whisky.
The name of my new bottling company is "Totally Definitely Not Laphroaig."
HAHA I laughed so hard at that! I love when people screw around like that!
How does his compare to Bunnahabhain 12? Love Bunna 12!
Hey Jeffrey! I actually have never tried the Bunna 12 but I plan on buying a bottle soon. I think this is probably a similar prospect. :)

That will be a fun experiment! Cheers Charles!
