I have made it to the West African nation of Liberia (country 178) and I am shocked to see how much it reminds me of home!!! Everything from the country flag to the government system, sports culture, school curriculum, and even the yellow school buses are shockingly similar to the United States, and you will find out why in this video!
Join me today on a tour around Monrovia, the lovely capital of Liberia!
Just out of curiosity - how many of you guys out there knew that Liberia was this Americanized? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Umm, the accent is not American entirely, but it's different from all others in Africa, the closest to an American one.

@Amy williams How is it a blatant lie? The descendents of those 16,000 returnees dominated the goverment and society of Liberia for over 125 years, from 1847 to 1980.
They restricted suffrage of the indigenous people - they even had the same party rule the country for over 100 years. It wasn't enslavement in the traditional sense, that their ancestors were subject to before - but it's nevertheless enslavement.

@@om606channel But that's exactly the truth and you know what else, it wasn't white people who did it as you would expect. Freed African American slaves after suffering the abuse of slavery did exactly to the indigenous tribes of Liberia as the slavemaster had done to him, despite the fact that these are African people just like them. They thought their 'Americanness' made them superior to indigenous Liberians and seriously oppressed them.

I've always been kind of curious about Liberia mostly because it was settled by former US slaves. In the United States we seem to hear so little about it compared to other African countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, etc. I don't remember being taught about it in my US history classes in 8th and 11th grade back in the the late 1960's and early 1970's. Being that the country was Founded by the United States, it seems to me it should be one of the most prosperous countries in all of Africa. In my opinion the United States all along should have been playing a bigger role in Liberia to help it prosper. I doubt Liberia is even on the radar as a tourist destination for most Americans who visit Africa. With it's link to the United States and location on the Atlantic Coast, it seems to me Liberia could easily be turned into a really nice tourist destination destination for Americans.
It’s 150+ years later, how many centuries will US taxpayers be expected to fund the rest of the world’s failures? Liberia has had many decades to improve their country….and somehow it’s still US responsibility to see them prosper. 🙄 Your comment is such an American narcissistic comment….that we should be involved around the world converting it into a mini America. Nope…. I think many of us are done with that.
You don’t remember learning it because they didn’t teach it. I’m just finding out 😑
It will be.
A lot of black people in America ancestors came from Nigeria and central Africa the hold and ivory coast too. But a lot of people who came from the hold coast and senegambia did not make the boat ride across

I'm just happy to see a for once positive video about Liberia.
Edit: I get that there are still some unfortunate things shown in the video, but what I mean is that at least it's trying to promote a positive image of Liberia. Aren't you guys sick of videos that give others the idea that Liberia is a cannibalistic country?? Sure, now so many people are going to say that Liberia "copied America's homework" after watching the video, but I'm at least grateful for the purpose of the video. I can safely say he was trying to put Liberia in a good light. Which is a lot to say after all the things that went on there. I'm not oblivious to the fact that things aren't well. But when there are people left and right telling me that the place I was born in is a shitty country, I'm going to want to find something to redeem that.

Liberia has so much potential! With the right leadership and proper funding the future could be very bright for them 🇱🇷 ❤️ 🇺🇸
I mean the USA created this country and made it that poor unfair colonized and violent, it has no potiential because of the USA because it has been actually designed to be an american nightmare
@Loj32Learn history, it's not "always USA's fault", but you must admit that the colonizer institution is somehow systematically in charge of its colonization, common sense (spoiler, there are other colonizers throughout history).
You clearly have no idea how Liberia was created. Right-wing american companies with the Wigh Party stole lands on these western African coasts from the indigenous people in order to cleanse the USA of newly freed Black People, exploit them in Africa and enslave the local people, all of that in an authoritarian segregationist state, this for more than a century and before a terrible ten years civil war.
That is more of a "how to make chaos and barbarism sustainably rise in there" than a "I just wanted you to be civilised and progressive" story.
@Loj32 Maybe you can inform me about political motivations of the American Colonization Society as you seem so aware?
Firstly, I never said that black people were forced to move to Liberia, that’s ridiculous as only something like 20k people decided to move and most of them died in a matter of years (the american colonization of Africa project was such a failure that it has been stopped quickly). Then even though nobody was forced, the ACS told them that going back to Africa was the only way to bee actually free, as life would be like heaven there, compared to the highly segregationnist society in the USA at the era, the choice was easy even if it was just a bunch of lies.
And finally this wasn’t even my point, concentrate please.
Btw are you telling me Liberia is not influenced by the USA nowadays ? xD this must be a kind of a joke or something right, otherwise you just shate your brain dude. You know almost all wealth produced in Liberia belongs to Europe and USA right?
Funny how the two only options for you is either :
-Colonizing the world
-Colonizing the world, making it a hell and then giving it admistrative independence even though 80% of the produce wealth still belongs to us.
What could have been done better? Dunno like not considering every other human a serf and stop colonize and wage war all around the globe in order to enrich oneself might be a good approach
I mean to be completely fair, that could be said about anywhere on earth. Good leadership and plenty of funding will be good for any nation.

@Anthrax The Bacterium If the country with no racism is Liberia, then 100% the first option. Also, racism does exist in Liberia, since only black people are allowed to be citizens. If the country with "no racism" is Norway, then that would be a better place to live than most places in the United States.
@Anthrax The Bacterium ok keep hating on the u.s no one cares about your opinion here in the u.s so bye
@Anthrax The BacteriumAre you actually trying to imply that there have been no ethnic tensions in Liberia whatsoever? Also one must be black or at least partially black in order to gain Liberian citizenship (Chapter 21 of the Aliens and Nationality Law). You have no idea what you're on about.
@Anthrax The Bacterium go live in another country nobody wants you here in the USA you priviledge victim bitch
Many years ago I went to Liberia for work, fell in love with a Liberian co worker, but I lost contact.. a few years later MJ came up with the track Liberian Girl.. a year ago, my heritage made me 14% west African. Even though I'm considered as a white man, all these things made me cry. Miss you Liberia(n) girl!

yea no shit. this 3 minute video doesnt show the whole truth lol.
As it is portrayed of all places and/or peoples and thier culture - who are seen as a threat.
because it is

Isn't that how the media portrayed other countries too in the Middle East? Such as Iraq, Iran, Syria, and oh boy, Israel and Palestine. Drew visited them too, but he never got raided by terrorists or getting his car bombed in front of him
So you want to come to America. My advice to people from Liberia is to try and find a way to improve your living condition in your own country first. As a black person, it's better to move to South Africa or another developing African country than to come to America. America is a nice place to visit, but if you are in your late 30s and up, then I don't recommend trying to make a life in America. America is education driven and there is a lot of racism towards black people. Most white people are always looking out for other white people, especially when it comes to jobs, and black people are second class citizens with low level jobs. If you are young and coming to America to live permanently, then you have to get a college education or your life will be a struggle. Yes, there are job opportunities in America, but your quality of life will be affected, especially if you are working for a boss all your life. My advice for Young Liberian who want to live in America, make education your main focus and choose a major that will net you good future income. Some colleges are free for low income people, but you will have to work while studying. After graduation, start a business and focus on becoming RICH, then you will enjoy the best America has to offer despite racism and other negativities. You will be able to go back to your country and buy house and land and your life will be much better.
you spoke the truth!! a lot of Africans tend to ignore all of this and just see USA as a paradise, when in reality it really is not.
Proudly Liberian, home sweet home.
I love 🇱🇷

Sending love to Liberia from the U.S.
God bless you guys!
Here’s a country that actually loves us.. WHY don’t we help them? Instead of always helping people who hate us or become ungrateful within a month or two..?
MY FRIEND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU AND I HAVE SAID THIS TIME AND TIME AGAIN THEY REALLY WANT US THERE THEY THINK WE ARE IN PARADISE AND WANT TO BE US lol I think is fantastic I have met some Liberians here in DC they have done great here and we talk all the time on getting things on track there I am a import export investor , we need to beat china there , who is pressed for land WE NEED TO GO AND BUILD LIBERIA ,
Bombing a country and installing a dictator more favourable to you is not "helping"
not so subtle Ukraine dig, lol. I don't disagree though. One of the few countries that genuinely appreciate America and we don't do much.
@@Ray03595 I was actually talking about Western Europe. They’ve had it very well since WWII.. I constantly see comments online from Europeans saying how Americans need to stay out of Europe and nato this nato that… I’ve seen A LOT of anti American comments coming from Europe. That’s just my experience though. I understand every country should be out for its own interests, but we’ve treated Europe as partners, we’ve treated mostly everyone as partners.. so I don’t get it. I know a lot of countries have issues with us because of our woke agenda that’s been taking place.. with drag queens and kids.. and other insane disgusting stuff like that; people don’t want their kids and families exposed to that kind of culture.. and honestly I don’t blame them. I wouldn’t want my kids exposed to that either! There’s something very sick going on in the US right now and I’m being totally serious. People can no longer determine right from wrong.. they’ve been desensitized by years of trash propaganda. There’s a serious wide-spread mental health issue going on right now.
@@RecoveringAhole we really should reach out a hand for these poverty stricken African countries that idolize us so much. But sadly the American government probably doesn’t see anything to gain from this other than stealing their resources. It is a sad reality

Wow I’m from Nigeria I want to visit Liberia I think it’s a great country
So that's why Liberia's flag is so similar to the American flag and America dosen't care about it.
Edit: Sorry that I wasn’t clear,I was saying that since Liberia was originally owned by the USA but then they got independence after,it makes since that they have influence by them. I didn’t know that America once owned Liberia so.
thevioletskull You do realize that USA flag was inspired by the British East India Company, right? They didn't create the stripes.
Liberia's flag was made like that because America was the country that gave it it's Independence
Flapper yeah,I’m saying that’s why,maybe I should’ve made that more clear.
Azhari Arif I’m going to link you this: www.quora.com/Is-the-US-flag-derived-from-the-East-India-Company-flag
Thats why you should've look it up
It's too bad the U.S. didn't help Liberia more during its development, not with foreign aid or anything like that, but just with greater economic relations, helping to build domestic businesses there. Instead Firestone dropped in and obtained rubber, but could have done it differently, better. Investment can be done so that both parties are helped, that's how a market-based system works, but it works best when people are smart about it, and view the long term rather than only short term profits. Liberia could be a rich country today, perhaps along the lines of an American version of South Africa (without Apartheid of course), if better choices had been made. I know, "woulda, coulda, shoulda" and it's a beautiful country as it is. The connections between Liberia and America seem pretty positive, and are kind of like a family resemblance. The two nations share a common history in many, many ways, and that's all to the good.
I would much rather America invest in Liberia than China
They are black people, that’s why , the Chinese are helping
I believe that one should be proud of its own culture rather than mimic somebody else's.
Is America helping you rise from the poverty, it doesn't looks like.
Surely, Americans have rejected us, but never mind China 🇨🇳 is really helping us in almost everything.
LIB TO THE WORLD So why are you people so attached to the same America that rejected you? This video makes Liberians look weak and boot- licky.... where's your own culture, tradition, your own way of life instead of copying everything American?
