Freed African American slaves after suffering the abuse of slavery did exactly to the indigenous tribes of Liberia as the slavemaster had done to him, despite the fact that these are African people just like them. They thought their 'Americanness' made them superior to indigenous Liberians and seriously oppressed them.

    I've always been kind of curious about Liberia mostly because it was settled by former US slaves. In the United States we seem to hear so little about it compared to other African countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, etc. I don't remember being taught about it in my US history classes in 8th and 11th grade back in the the late 1960's and early 1970's. Being that the country was Founded by the United States, it seems to me it should be one of the most prosperous countries in all of Africa. In my opinion the United States all along should have been playing a bigger role in Liberia to help it prosper. I doubt Liberia is even on the radar as a tourist destination for most Americans who visit Africa. With it's link to the United States and location on the Atlantic Coast, it seems to me Liberia could easily be turned into a really nice tourist destination destination for Americans.

      It’s 150+ years later, how many centuries will US taxpayers be expected to fund the rest of the world’s failures? Liberia has had many decades to improve their country….and somehow it’s still US responsibility to see them prosper. 🙄 Your comment is such an American narcissistic comment….that we should be involved around the world converting it into a mini America. Nope…. I think many of us are done with that.

    • @M_Julian_TSP
      @M_Julian_TSP 3 года назад +2

      @Loj32Learn history, it's not "always USA's fault", but you must admit that the colonizer institution is somehow systematically in charge of its colonization, common sense (spoiler, there are other colonizers throughout history).
      You clearly have no idea how Liberia was created. Right-wing american companies with the Wigh Party stole lands on these western African coasts from the indigenous people in order to cleanse the USA of newly freed Black People, exploit them in Africa and enslave the local people, all of that in an authoritarian segregationist state, this for more than a century and before a terrible ten years civil war.
      That is more of a "how to make chaos and barbarism sustainably rise in there" than a "I just wanted you to be civilised and progressive" story.

    • @M_Julian_TSP
      @M_Julian_TSP 3 года назад +2

      @Loj32 Maybe you can inform me about political motivations of the American Colonization Society as you seem so aware?
      Firstly, I never said that black people were forced to move to Liberia, that’s ridiculous as only something like 20k people decided to move and most of them died in a matter of years (the american colonization of Africa project was such a failure that it has been stopped quickly). Then even though nobody was forced, the ACS told them that going back to Africa was the only way to bee actually free, as life would be like heaven there, compared to the highly segregationnist society in the USA at the era, the choice was easy even if it was just a bunch of lies.
      And finally this wasn’t even my point, concentrate please.
      Btw are you telling me Liberia is not influenced by the USA nowadays ? xD this must be a kind of a joke or something right, otherwise you just shate your brain dude. You know almost all wealth produced in Liberia belongs to Europe and USA right?
      Funny how the two only options for you is either :
      -Colonizing the world
      -Colonizing the world, making it a hell and then giving it admistrative independence even though 80% of the produce wealth still belongs to us.
      What could have been done better? Dunno like not considering every other human a serf and stop colonize and wage war all around the globe in order to enrich oneself might be a good approach

      @romcomfan Do you have any proof that he is a Russian Agent? Or that he learned anti-US propaganda? Are you not doing the same thing your accusing Drew? Propaganda. I have a half Russian, and she is one of the nicest people I ever met. So just because she is part Russian and she speaks the language do I have to suspect her of being a spy? Please stop being paranoid. The US actually bombed the sh*t out of Irak, Afghanistan, Somalia and many other countries in that part of the world. Even the Washington Post proved few days ago that the US where committing serious crimes in Afghanistan while lying to the rest of the US and the world. Smh.

    I sincerely hate that mindset Liberians have about the US. Work hard and smart to make your country the paradise you want not crave to be a foreigner in another country

    • @edub1026
      @edub1026 3 года назад +19

      It's not that Liberians crave to be in another country, it's wanting to see something that you've heard so much about, something that you're country is influenced after. It's no different than someone from America wanting to visit/live/embrace another country or culture that they haven't seen. Side note, not one person makes a country, and all countries have it's good and bad regardless of how hard you work.

    Great video! Crazy that throughout many of these vids, many of the people of each country view America as basically paradise, while the people that live there always complain about the smallest things and their president when in reality, they're over exaggerating a lot of their 1st world problems.
    These people are thankful and finding ways to be happy (in one vid you have, the kids were having the greatest times of their lives playing soccer with a WATER BOTTLE) and most of them don't even have access to half of the things Americans get. Just a reminder to take a step back and realize that you're life in your first world country isn't as bad as yall act like it is. Be thankful! Great video Drew, been binge watching all these lol.

    Dude! Liberia seems and looks awesome! Its almost identical to the U.S.A seeing as it was part of the U.S.A at one point of its history. And most people have if not all American descent at least partial American descent. It pretty much is the U.S.A in Africa (West Africa). Only differences are being independent and its own country and sovereign state, using pounds, along with using American currency, they also have their own Liberian currency, different national holidays I assume, and some people have different sounding accents compared to the majority of Liberians who sound like if they were from Georgia or so. Liberia is such a beautiful place! Much love, hope, and friendship from the U.S, specifically with and alone the Florida Peninsula.

    • @JulianDuke14

      hithere Not true man, I researched and it said that it was colonized by the U.S and annexed into the country for a short time until becoming fully independent. It’s like the same with Yucatán Peninsula, in the year 1848, the Yucatán peninsula was an independent nation that Mexico and the U.S didn’t recognize and government officials from Yucatán traveled to Washington D.C to convince the U.S senate and government to annex The Yucatán as a state of the U.S with a flip of the coin decision from the senate that said no, the same situation with the Yucatán is what happened with Liberia as well.
