When Volo shows up at your camp, let him operate on you.
Being able to see invisibility for the rest of the game is a HUGE advantage.

Yeah, it really just depends on how you want to use him. You can either steal all sorts of shit of him all game, or you can get a 30ft see invisibility buff, that you can get from potions and spells anyway.
If you don't have a super thief, I would vote keeping him in the camp so you can steal from him.
if you have a super thief, that it's fine cuz you can basically steal whatever you need from others anyway.

You do NOT have to kill the adult owelbear to get the cub at your camp. You need to rescue the cub from the goblins, the cub is there regardless of if you’ve killed the mother. You also do not need to kill the cows at all, you can convince them to fight with you.

I have to mention with the owlbear cub. The mom drops a broken part of a spear. The other half is on a dead dwarf just outside the cave. You can combine the two parts from your inventory to get a spear that blinds on hit. You have advantage when attacking blinded enemies so the spear is really good, especially early in the game. It's called Vision of the Absolute.
There's a similar secret staff in the Underdark that drops in pieces from 3 different Drow, called Mourning Frost. Google the names and you'll find the specifics.

01:16 Use Shadowheart and change her spells to allow the use of Command, use Command: Drop on the demon and he will drop the sword Everburn. Have another character there to pick it up before his next turn. This makes him defenseless and easy to kill, and you have the sword as well.
07:40 If you do not wish to rescue Volo, you can pickpocket him when in the cut scene with a different character to obtain the ring he has.
10:30 If you use Speak with Animals during the Owlbear it will allow you to leave. Come back and it will be dead. This allows the matter to progress where the baby is captured by the goblins. You can obtain the cub when in their camp.
22:40 If you go the other direction and smash the brick wall out it will land on the Duergar and kill them saving the animals instead.
27:45 during the cutscene with the Gith if you bring Liz'el you can use another character out of the cutscene and command the boss to drop the sword, pick it up and walk off before the cut scene is over.
Pretty much every major quest has at least 2 ways to complete them. No aggro no issues.

    • @Xantexhunter
      @Xantexhunter Год назад +13

Gonna add to the gith sword.
Recent hotfix made it so that if you enter a conversation with the gith, everyone in the group gets put into the conversation, even if they are super far away or in camp.
      HOWEVER.
You can still make Voss drop the gith sword if you use disarm or command: drop without triggering the conversation. However it will cause him to immediately leave and will cause all the gith (Including Lae'zel if shes present) to become hostile.
If you're sneaky, you can try to grab the sword without fighting. However, the person who initially disarmed Voss, (in my case it was shadowheart) whenever that person is in combat, the game will for some reason, also put the gith fighters into combat with you. So if you are in the underdark, fighting minotaurs, if the person who disarmed voss is also fighting the minotaurs with you, those githyanki up on the bridge will be in combat. So the game will hilariously swtich back and forth between whatever it is your fighting, to the githyanki who are just wandering around and jumping. Funny, but also annoying because this is a turn based game.
You can solve this issue two ways:
      1. dont use the npc that disarmed voss in combat. So that means, I can't use shadowheart. (worst option)
      2. Kill the githyanki (best option)
Also, if you give the sword to Lae'zel, she will spout Act III spoilers. So I don't recommend anyone on their 1st playthrough to do this, or at the very least, dont give Lae'zel the sword.

The Silver Sword deserves a HUGE disclaimer. Killing the githyanki group for Kith’rak’s sword has MASSIVE long-term implications for Lae’zel’s personal quest line that extend well into the end of Act 3.
IMO story-wise, it’s a regrettable mistake to metagame and secure the Silver Sword in Act 1 on any player’s first run. It’s not a trinket to mindlessly obtain like the Everburn Blade.

Shadowheart is actually THE MOST useful in earliest "End Stage" of the Nautiloid, when trying to get the Everburn Blade, she can simply use the spell, Command:Drop on the boss Devil, when he's stunned by a few attacks by your other characters, and at 70% has a much higher chance he'll drop his ONLY weapon, you can then pickup and use it to kill the Mind Flayer and him with relative ease.

One thing that helps when killing the demon for the Everburn Blade is to move those glowing purple tanks in the room over to him. If you just run near them, it doesn't take an action to click and drag them along the floor. Stack the three of them up around him and the Mind Flayer while they fight, then go about the rest of your business. When he gets low on health, have Shadowheart use Firebolt on one of the tanks and they will explode, probably taking the Mind Flayer out at the same time.
Also, pick up all of the Bulbs you find laying around the Nautiloid and from looting Mind Flayers. There are a few in the boss room if you have time to grab them. Especially Void Bulbs, they can be very useful all through the game and there are only a few chances to find them.
The Loviatar buff - the Performance option is the sure way to get it if you don't have any class dialogue option. Also, if the character ever fully dies they'll lose the buff for good.

Volo's Ersatz Eye might sound useful, but if you don't let him lobotomize you, he will instead remain the entire time (until act 3 at least) at your camp. That makes him the most easily accessible merchant in the game.
In case you don't know: A long rest and a level-up both reset merchants' inventories. Given that all your unused party members and your resting spot is in camp, a merchant in camp is very useful. Get him to 100 attitude early (lower level means you need to donate less). And dump your stuff with him. Depending on how much of a Loot Goblin you are, this might not be enough, but it's much more handy than a bit of counter invisibility.

I am not so sure about the Owlbear though. For me, the Owlbear joined me in the Underdark but that is part of Act 1. I'd say as long as you got the previous camp cutscenes, you will eventually get the last one to have him join you.

I've learned of the existence of the Owlbear cub when I was already in the middle of Act 2. Got back in act 1, killed the mother, and the cub showed up itself in my camp next time I rested.
So yeah, you can even start the event when you have technically finished act 1 and already wiped all the goblins, it works.

After the last patch it's nearly impossible to kill the devil for the everburn blade, at least in hard mode. You have to get lucky and have someone command him to drop the weapon.

I was quite impressed by Alfira's VA, her singing was perfect for someone who has talent while lacking confidence or being out of practice. The shakiness of her voice is perfect, I can't imagine being able to do that on command.

I stopped my first playthrough because the stuttering and lag in the city was so awful despite my PC being an absolute beast. Turns out wasn't so bad, because I discovered a LOT of what you talk about here. But, I still missed some of the things you talk about, so thank you! I love this damn game.

You say, its really a shame.
But no its not. It makes playing through the story again so much better and great. Getting every single thing in one go, saving before every single decision in every single conversation kinda kills the joy of creating another game.

    For the tip nr1
Shadowheart is the key to getting the sword in most efficient way - command "drop"
If it doesnt work swarm it, also you can push it and since hes fully focused on mindflayer he will provoked opportunity attacks on his way, thats the Best way to add some damage.
Dont just let mindflayer do all the work, hes actually quite squishy and loses health fast.
Also the blade is nice, but the moment you find a 2h with nice enchantments swap it, you can easly dip your weapon in fire and get the same effect

Only got the game a few days ago (running balanced), basically cleared the underdark (minus using the boat) prior to facing the Giths (+killing every goblin in the camp, getting the giant hammer from the last goblin commander). Barb / Karlach / Shadow / Gabe - found the encounter pretty straight forward, one attempt, no command drop... no one needed to be helped up... I mean, two level 5 barbs, both with two handed monsters, with two attacks each turn, and 38dmg fireballs melt them pretty quick.

Oh wow, that Silver Sword of the Astral Plane is really cool. I’m pretty sure its also a callback to the Silver Sword of Gith you could get way back in Neverwinter Nights 2, which was a huge plot item and also legitimately one of the best melee weapons in the game.

    • @Skaftholu
      @Skaftholu Год назад

It's not a callback to anything other than Githyanki lore. It's a unique item in the game, but in the actual lore there are a bunch of them among the Githyanki.
