Hey Gary ! back in the early 80s my boss got some spray at the flea market for 2.50 that was a green 12 oz.military can that was submarine contact cleaner . This stuff I used it on a fuze box like this .give it a little blast to wet it and then wait a minute then blast it and the nasty brass connections came out perfectly clean and shined . it had some sort of lube with it and worked for 6-7 years . I should had gone out there and got a case of it .
Hey man! I have some contact cleaner from back in the day, radio shack brand. I might try that if things keep acting up. I cleaned the fuse block pretty well, we’ll see how it does.
Nice and simple job for a man of your talents! The probe looks like a decent bit of kit too! Bet Levi is busting to get his licence when he reaches the age and rip around in that, it’s cooler than a penguins ball bag
Thank you sir, we’re both having a good time working on this together and he’s definitely excited and hoping it’ll be his first car in a few years. Time will tell if it sticks around or not lol
Hi VWJ! I haven't commented on your videos lately because I only have time to watch while I'm at work on breaks and lunch or whatever. The reason I've not been able to comment is because work added a feature to their Internet security and we aren't able to view it comment on videos in RUclips. I can watch apparently anything I want but I just can't comment. so I'm on my phone right now and I apologize for errors if any. I like what you're doing with the wiring. I'm a purist and I agree that it was designed to be used with the ignition so therefore it shouldn't be an issue. I also agree that it's your car. you build it the way you want and at least for me I'll respect you for it. I'm also an electronics mechanic and I enjoy the tidiness you're putting into the wiring. all the zip ties may seem odd but it makes a big difference in the end. it tells me you care about your work. You seem like a good guy VWJ. I hope to actually get to shake your hand one day. keep up the great content. love ya, love your channel!
Hey man! No need to explain, life happens and we all have something that gets in the way of what we’d like to do. I do appreciate you being here when you’re able to. Thank you as always for your input and honesty. On this project, it would have cost more than it was worth, to me, to put the wiring back to factory…. Especially since I have this aftermarket “harness” and wire at hand. It’ll all make sense in the end and have a diagram to follow as well. Have a great week my friend.

Interesting putting the alternator on the green light, I would have put it on the orange one, the greens for turn signals so no diodes needed. Easy to swap after all... its a VW! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
great work sir on the electric stuff. and indeed that probe is a nice tool to have, i'm using that at work and is my best friend to search for problems. and you have a cameraman now, congrats on that.

Oh man I wish I had spare time! Life, work and family keep me pretty busy as it is. This is a good break from the Sickxty and hopefully get me a second wind soon.
Nice work that power probe looks like a nice tool to have! Got the dune buggy all wired up except the engine and fuel pump. So far the 48 buck china universal wiring harness/fuse panel is working great. I of course had to wire everything from the switches out but glad it's done. It was my first time rewiring a complete car and the nice thing is you can route the wires where you want and tuck them nice and tight and not have to worry about a bunch of old splices. Keep up the good work:)

@@VWJawbreaker thanks Gary. The only downside was no wiring diagram so I had to get the multi meter out and make my own diagram but that was worth the savings
Nice and clean wiring, I like that. If I had to do it again(maybe I will if I find the right deal) I would have purchased the harness but with all the add-ons Abbey has it would have only been a starting point. Nice work, keep plugging away at it. :)
Thank you sir. As long as Abbey’s harness is working, not sure it’s worth the headache to pull it out and redo it all. I think what you guys have done works just fine for the situation.

I'm impressed. Old electrical can test your patience. Very cool tool to help. Better to have the new wiring. I had some weird issues with my VDO tach when I went from generator to alternator. Both were 12 volt but with the alternator it is not happy any more. Thinking of a new one. Let us know what you end up with. Love the BAJA. I admit I'm prejudice since it's a 69 hehehe Looking forward to some drives.
Since I didn’t have any other option than to replace it, here we are lol I haven’t really dug into the tach problem yet, there could be a few different things…. I’ll get to it eventually, other things are more pressing. Have a great week my friend.

I like it I have not started on mine yet just getting most of the body done still have all four fenders to do but that is just sanding and priming and the hood . Have to do the rubber's around the engine then put the 26mm oil pump in and then install the engine and hope it runs. then take it back out and paint the car then start putting it back together for the last time
It’s definitely a process. Some people just don’t understand how much time it takes to complete something, especially when we have a family, job and other life priorities. Just enjoy the process and the project.
