A year ago or so, my son went a great distance to see these guys in concert, and came back not so much raving as marveling at how interesting the music and the presentation were. We found this clip, and others, here on YT, and I researched the band online: How stunned I was to find out that one of the band-members was Boris Pelekh, who had been in one of my classes at the Hogwarts of Music in Boston, back in the late '80's/early '90's. Al Dimeola, Bruce Hornsby, Branford Marsalis, Natalie Maines, John Mayer: Eat your hearts out!
This reminds me of seeing them at 9:30 Club in DC when I was in the military. That place would be PACKED full, and if you dared to venture up to the front, you were basically guaranteed a spit of wine in the face from Eugene. To this date, of my top 5 shows, Gogol at 9:30 put on 3 of them! Miss you, KDCap
I watched them on the beach in Japan in 2010. We jumped so hard and I ripped my shoes without even realising it. It was one of my best concert experience and I've been to loads of them.
I saw them at Reading festival in the mid 2000's, had never heard of them before that and I can honestly say they were absolutely amazing and easily the best of weekend.
If you're into Gypsy-Punk, make it your life's purpose to see Gogol Bordello at least once performing live! This band will never fail, making every performance and concert feel like an event! Love the energy and twisted melancholic humor!
