Thank you for the video. I just had my turbo go out at 185k miles. I took a risk and bought a center cartridge from eBay. On top of that I was able to split the turbo while in the car and clean VNTs while at it. I did had to remove a valve cover to get to VNT arm bolt. Hope it helps someone without a lift like me.
@@jjljedi2 it worked out fine. I could be happier. I did it a month ago. And save a lot of money this way. Don't forget to drain the oil from the intercooler before starting the car for the first time.

Do you have any tips for the turbo reinstallation process? This video helped me remove a broken turbo from my 2011 Jetta TDI but I'm not sure if there is any necessary lubrication process for installing the new turbo.
I didn’t lube mine. Then started it, didn’t have the drain on properly, emptied all the oil while idiling. Had to re pull the charger to fix the drain. Ran fine since. Been almost a year.
Why the hell VW did not let a room of at least 4 inch for every side so you can put through your hands! What is the f-g need to pack all the parts this way!
I think so too. When the car would be about 4 inches longer all the repairs would be much easier and save a lot of time to repair what ever it is. I think it becomes wore and worse at near all the cars.
This is exactly why I’ve stuck with a PD engine for this long, now I have 1 PD/DSG and 2 CJAA CR/DSG powered cars in the driveway, one MK6 Golf and and the other CJAA is a MK5 Jetta which needs a turbocharger and both CR cars need DMF 🤦🏻♂️
@@Mikefngarage Yeah, it's because they consume A LOT of energy compared to anyone on the planet... They cost of electricity(cent/kw hour) is not very high... In fact, it's half compared to many US state. Their bill are huge because they aren't efficient using it.
I tried but ended up just pulling it from the bottom by removing the axle and a lot of cussing. I didn’t know you could remove the cowl and didn’t have a puller to get the wipers off.
Plus it would be hard to set it on the car. Now that I think about it. I think one of the bolts is almost impossible to reach bc of the manifold and lack of room. These cars were made for mechanics with tiny hands.
The pill bug must have thought it was a VW Beetle part and it was hungry.. thinking Bugs Beetles must be edible.. so in memory of the pill bugs. you need to have a wrap printed that looks like a pill bug shell..
Usually the pvc system gets damaged. This stops the turbo from draining oil. Which makes it build up and push through compressor wheel. This without proper cool down time eventually grenades the charger. We need pvc for vacuum for turbo drain! My plastic split before the turbo coming off the engine.

Please update on how it works out for you. I purchased a new turbo but I would like to rebuild this one with a new cartridge.
Thanks!

This is helpful, good thing my DPF, egr, and egr cooler are already gone.
Hey Mike,
Kevin here from Australia.
All i can say is my head hurts just watching this.
But at the same time is awesome viewing.
✌ peace.
This video would’ve save me so much time if I could’ve found it last year.
same. now i know how to do it. and know very clearly that i really really don't want to.
Thanks, as the owner of Passat I realized if something goes wrong it's way over my skills tools. So back to the Dealer and I hate that.
thanks for your comments and likes. Damn Pill bugs cost me like 3 days work.
😂😂😂
Thank you so much for this video. Would of been hell trying to figure this all out myself.
Did you put all that emission stuff back in??

What turbo model do they come with?

Ive just crashed my car and my turbo is fairly new, the engine has moved a good 10 inches forward so im hoping I have loads of room to remove it😂

I think I’ll be better off removing the engine on the MK5 CJAA since the turbocharger and DMF (dsg) needs replacement.
not too easy to remove the engine. but on a BRM it might pay off. I prefer to put the car in service position to remove the engine.
@@bomason7074 yes you are. Pulling is way easier.
So glad we now also know why the Texas power grid failed.. those damn pill bugs...
the electric bills I hear are epic

Can you pull just the actuator without pulling the turbo?

Where do you get turbos rebuilt?
How much to replace without labor
Whatever you can get a charger on eBay for. I paid 350 from Romania. I’d guess 300 to 600, for used and new.
I pulled my dpf without touching the subframe.
How so

@14:09 what do you call that set? Do you have a link?
Triple square iirc
Thanks for this looked at my car today was like ummm the hell am I doing. Had my turbo snap at 133k unsure why

Also the wiring for the actuator can break and causing it to stay open. Check all wiring on 09-10 tdi Jetta from Mexico. It’s garbage.

not does not save any time. engine comes out with trans and it is a tight fit still need to remove the exhaust. which is the hardest part.
