Love to see this little device getting better and better!! I bought the very first version when it was in crowdfunding and it's come a long way (the bluetooth connectivity was awful and finding the button really was painful - sometimes you had to press it for soo long that you didn't know if you we actually turning it off or on haha. About randomly losing the mic at a speaker... I'm guilty, too! I mean, I don't know for sure but this must have happened - I can't find my Instamic Pro anywhere!
The last version was already 32 bit float. That’s not an upgrade from the Instamic Pro Plus. But that little detail aside, good review. The Instamic is a perfect backup mic that’s just good to have in your bag when a random audio moment pops up. Definitely recommend to add to the kit!
Hello Matt, thank you for the Review. I own the first and second Version, and they work very well. With all Instamics, you can use Timecode, it is not an upgrade. As an external Source, the older ones accept TC from my Tentacles, nice to see, that they now support more Options. Kind Regards from Germany, today it is as hot as it might be in Texas, we have got 35 Degree Celsius, a bit stressfull for my next wedding.
Another great review! I have the old one and the white one has been nice when a bride has found the strap uncomfortable. Plus I’ve loved the tentacle sync feature. Matt, will you be review the new zoom H1 XLR? I’m curious how it compares to the f3….
I saw a long list of people with the new version complaining about them freezing up and not recording randomly, and pretty frequently. The owner was in the comments trying to stop the bleeding, but more and more people kept piling in with their experiences. I'd be careful for now. I have the previous model and I love it, though.
yep I posted on a FB group about it and many people had the same experience. I'd stay away from this one until it's stable. Unfortunate because I've loved their previous version. Hopefully Matt pins this because this should not be recommended right now.
I didn’t have any issues with either of mine stopping recording, but this is also a good reason I recommend them mostly as a backup recorder. You never want to be recording something important with just one recorder.
I have two of the older pro models and just used the newest pro model this past weekend and it indeed froze up. I had to press the button for nearly 20 seconds before it would power off.

Honestly everyone, I would jsut get the DJi mic 2 at this point. DJi has made the mic 2 so damn innovated that only reason to go with the Rode Go-ii is because of the audio quality. The Mic 2 has so many features that brings out the best out of it that its worth the $350 usd. I do hope one day DJi will make Pro versions of the Mic series so that they can be a bit bigger with longer battery life and maybe even have an SD card slot in the Receiver for internal recording.

For this form factor, the Instamic has the best sound quality of the mics that I own. The wind screen is probably the weakest part of the set up because of the size and awkward way of using it. Separate power and record buttons would make more sense to me as well as some haptic feedback when recording starts and stops.
I have the original, which i believe is also 32bit float? It's great for the first look with dad or the first look with the groom. I received recently a white sleeve that the black recorder goes into. Not sure how it's going to work with a brides dress yet. I wish I could find a white magnet. If there are more than two speakers at the reception, I'll use that as the third back up mic on one of the toasters. the Zoom HN essential is my main audio source that's plugged into the DJ board or speaker. It is small, but looks chunky, especially with that mount. I'd rather NOT have a piece that connects to my mic and might get lost or break. Sure, I do misplace my magnets sometime, but it's easy enough to buy a bunch of those from different sources. I have the Rode Go II, but am still holding off on the upgrade until I can find a microphone that will hang well on people with T shirts or even lighter garments, without dragging them down. This comes really close, but I can hold off until next summer for something better.
I saw this being mounted under clothes with the magnet on the outside, but wouldn't that produce a lot of rustling and muffled sound? If the mic is on the outside, especially on a groom or bride it might be too obtrusive.
As someone who bought a previous product from them I can only say it is in my draw and not used, I tried and after sveral attempts and the odd email from them gave up. I want them to do well but once burned...
Everyone is into these tiny mics and 32bit but right now my favorite Lavs are comica CVM-WM200A PRO They takes real batteries which I love. EBL makes lithium rechargeable aa and aaa batteries. Every battery maker should be doing this. The mic has on board recording to micro SD another huge plus, and you can transmit and record at the same time. Don't get me wong, 32bit is nice. If could get a fair priced setup like this, I'd take it. It's especially for beginners but we have been able to use 24bit reliably for a long time. It takes a minute to learn but once you figure out settings, you are fine. I'd rather have the other features over 32bit.
I think completely different purposes for these mics. While Comica maybe better solution for sit down interviews or even other sort of work, these mics are ideal for events where you have sometimes 5 seconds to mic someone up. These come in really handy because of its portability and size, battery life and 32bit float. Speed is the real keywoard I think.

These are very important aspects of a recorder we need to know about to make good decisions. Thank you so much.
The reason they cannot listen to audio while recording is probably because of the patent by that audio compagny in the USA that been suing people. I heard it going to expire in a year or two(maybe not...)... So let hope things improve then, including for Deity and other products.

It's way too expensive for what it is.. Zoom h4 essential is cheaper than this. At around $100 i would consider buying a couple but for me dji mic 2 offers way more versatility and I can monitor it remotely and it's cheaper.
Bruh, the zoom H4e is an entirely different use case 😂 That’s like saying, an air fryer is better than a grill. Sure they both cook but different use cases 😂😂
I'll never understand why they limit to 16GB and tiny things considering it's SO cheap for data... Just give us the 64gb or 128gb just so we can have the audio saved for us ADHD having brains lol

I would love more ways to mount this under clothing using something like a hush lavs mount!

Yes I 100% agree! Right now I use the wireless go II with a lav mic. I tape the lav mic to the inside of my t shirt and it works perfectly.

I wonder if you're able to turn off bluetooth somehow and use the magnet to attach to do the dj mic for back up audio.
With the upcoming firmware and software update it will be possible to turn off the Bluetooth. It is a matter of a few weeks. I hope it helps, Michele
