I think this prop was modified. I don't think the eyes ever lit up in the old serials.

@@neosov1 The very first Daleks had an illuminated "pupil" to the eye that would expand and contract. At some stage it was changed to a dark pupil with a white iris.

@@neosov1 No, they certainly lit up. The one here has already been modified for Evil of the Daleks to have a pupil, which has fallen out from the center, giving the iris a strange “crescent” shape
