    I love this idea of “community-supported agriculture.” I doubt why I couldn’t buy one dragon fruit just directly from my neighborhood farmer. One local dragon fruit might be sent to a distant collection center and then shipped back to a retailer’s store nearby and “finally “ came to a local consumer’s hand. My parents, both in their eighties, still grow their things in the country of Taiwan, working and selling harvest to locals and tourists. Profits are small, but still supportive. But using technology is a problem for them.

    A homegrown tomato has the big advantage that you can actually harvest it when ripe and get some taste out of it. Can't say that of most supermarket products!

    • @mrpocock
      @mrpocock 4 года назад

      The lack of taste in a supermarket tomato is as much about them being refrigerated as anything else. When cold, their scent doesn't come out.

    • @TheDhammaHub
      @TheDhammaHub 4 года назад

      @@mrpocock It's the same when I do not store them in the fridge really. When you want to transport a tomato for several days, you have to harvest it while still green. The fruit will produce not nearly as much sugar as if you let it ripen on the plant in my experience.

    Great work Erin! Very powerful, made me tear up. You're a great human and I love what you guys are doing!! I grow as much of my food as I can & all organically from as much recycled stuff as possible as well as recycle/compost everything that I can. It's helpful but never seems like enough. I'm 26 & would love to eventually have all food come from nature & I think everyone else should as well. It's beneficial to your body of course but also to your mind and soul. You're inspiring, keep up the good work. :)

    I grow my own veggies and what I don’t grow I will buy local. Am canning tomatoes today that I grew. I buy local raised meat as well. I love being able to actually fry a hamburger with local beef instead of trying to fry one, that boils in the pan with added “flavoring”, from hamburger bought from Kroger or any other big chain store. Do as much as you can for yourself if you’re genuinely concerned about your health. It’s not that hard. It’s just getting into the habit of doing so.

      There are a few other channels that I sub to that agree w you and me. Might be of interest to you?
      Daniel, of Arms Family Homestead in Oklahoma,
      Bigfoot Farmer... Pennsylvania or somewhere in the NE, and
      Keeping it Dutch, also Oklahoma...
      All trying to be self sustaining, raising their own eggs, chickens, goats. Both have 3 children of their own.
      Daniel buys a heffer each year for the freezer, and inherited a 110 acre piece of land from his dad, has a large High-Tunnel garden that I think is 20 x 40? Family friendly channel, he loves the Lord, is a Christian, just retired as an OK State Trooper.
      Binge watch a few of his/their vids?
      Will be worth your time. Many ideas, always uplifting to others. Has sponsored content. Gardening, and all things about being self-sustaining.
      BTW... lol...
      Daniel (well, mostly his wife Dejay) have 3 Llamas that they call Donkey Poodles (each has a name) one of which is expecting a baby soon, 2 miniature donkeys, a couple and the female is expecting soon.
      Daniel is more well educated and easy going than Dutch.
      Dutch also has another channel about cooking. Google it/them, like and sub to ALL for awhile?
      You can also unsub at your convenience, of course, but I hope you learn and enjoy them both.
      There's also another YT vid that I sub to on occasion, off and on. Her YT channel is Pepper... something? Home organic gardening, canning, self sustaining principles, etc.
      Many others out there in YT land, right?
      Stay safe, to you and yours, ok?, from somewhere in the Pacific Northwest and around the World... ⚘🙏❤🙏⚘

      Deborah Kennedy thanks. I’ll check it out though I don’t think they’ll like me much for my falling out of religion. It happened in Iraq and I’ve not looked back since then. I’ve got a family, wife and son, here in Saltville Virginia in the Appalachians with a tiny piece of land, 3 acres, that I’m trying to get out of it as much as possible. Just got this place but have been prepping for years as much as possible. Everyone thought I was a little crazy until this COVID-19 hit and they couldn’t even buy toilet paper. Now most people are at least trying to prep somewhat. I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a freeze dryer last year and I’m so glad I got it. Makes food last longer than canning or dehydration. I told my wife that when I die that she could still eat my famous chili 25 years after my death, lol. She’s not into prepping she’s more a live for the moment person and we clash sometimes but she’s slowly accepting the old ways. Chickens and rabbits are the agenda for next month and hopefully emu’s in November. Yeah I’m blabbing now, sorry. I’ll check those channels out. Thanks again.

    Another thing which could be added is a buyback policy for large amounts of produce that has already been shipped to stores but no longer wanted because of appearance quality that doesn't meet consumer standards. the food should then be either resold cheaper to different consumers r donated freely to people in need

    local farmers need to fulfill the variety of what the local consumers demanded, and the farmers need to supply the exact amount pf what the consumer needed . the farmer would likely meet the demand if their field have the capacity to fully supply the food demand in some region, or the local farmers just need to supply certain amount of food and certain variety while lettinh the rest of the demand fulfilled by the agriculture corporation?

    Ok so she is not too bad, but she is clearly biased, which is not good for a scientist. Just because Luuk is raising cows like his grand parents, doesn’t necessarily make it better. It may make it better, but I want data and not your opinion. Are you a scientist or a novelist?
    Btw, I also don’t want my tomato to smell like dirt. And, the gases and antibiotics in my fruits keep them fresh until I finish them. Organic produce usually go bad in my fridge before I finish it all.
    Now I agree about the flavor being not all there, but it’s a compromise. And just because she likes to do things the old fashioned way and be friendly to cows doesn’t interest me at all. Just give me the data and keep your opinions to yourself.
