Robert, Thank you so much!!! I've been trying to figure this scale out for years, when someone else would play it, they'd play it so fast, it went right by me; now I think I have it! You just opened a huge door for me, Sincerely Steve D.
Hey Mister Nenman, I've searching for years, lots of years the real "How to play inside and outside" a blues progression. Now I have it. Not easy to do but the shape note is here. Thank you very much from France, thank you very much, great lesson. Pascal.
I prefer to look at the scale as 2 parts, One from A to D and one from to Eb to G#. and then you can actually see it as 2 minor ways of W H W (A B C D) and then you do the same from Eb, that is Eb F Gb G# (or Ab as you wish), which is again a W H W. This way you have to remember less stuff, i find it very frustrating think note per note. I hope this helps anyone that finds it useful
well that was extremely useful Robert. i have tried to memorize the diminished scale a ton of times. always get "lost" like you said those patterns are so easy to memorize. thanx my fellow canadian. and cheers to you. too bad its 5:04am, i really want to fire up the amps and give these a hour or so. hell i am going to actually. i will be riding that volume control on the tele though. neighbor downstairs ya know.
good lesson. 2 quick questions. if youre in Am, the Half-whole and whole-half both start on the A? also, the second step in the minor scale is a diminished triad. are you playing a Bdim here actually? it looks like youre going between a straight Amin and A whole-half dim.
Thank you-you vids are excellent! When you move from the pentatonic/blues “position” to the diminished “flavorings,” what notes in the “pentatonic/blues box” can you start on? in other words, which notes in the pentatonic are also in the appropriate diminished scale?
ROBERT NO ENTIENDO INGLES PERO LO QUE ENTENDÍ ES QUE CON ESTA ESCALA DE LAm diminuido PUEDO MODULAR A SOLm.REMPAZANDO EL ACORDE DE RE 7.MUCHAS GRACIAS.SALUDES DESDE COLOMBIA.PEREIRA RISARALDA.
I like to keep things relative to other things I already learn so I just don't worry about the WHOLE HALF I just worry about the HALF WHOLE. When I play over things like Am to D7 I just think about D being the root of the HALF WHOLE and just play it. if I am playing over A7 and D7 I just think A HALF WHOLE
You mixed it with minor pentatonic blues. My question is how do you formulate that accent of phrasing on your head? Is it the backing track that makes makes you think of those melodies?
OMG I just noticed that the A root HALF WHOLE can be instantly converted to the A WHOLE HALF if you just shift it a half step back!!!! THIS IS BIG!!! SO IN SHORT ... I know the HALF WHOLE real well and now to play the WHOLE HALF just as good I just shift it back a half step BOOM
this is not the diminished scale. it is only made up of minor 3rds connected straight together making it a pure diminish. the half step whole is a altered 8 tone scale scale yes you can mix the minor scale with it but its not pure then
He mostly uses dorian. I dont remember a particular diminushed sound in his songs. To me the diminished scale is more reminiscent of guitarists like John Schofield, Josh Smith, Allan Holdsworth, etc
Mobiustrip1 This is a product for sale so I'm commenting as a consumer. I've purchased a number of truefire courses and they have better - like Fareed Haque. But it might be just the right speed for you.
Dolphinstreet rob.... u r sounding too jazzish could have added some yjm stuffs.... but u r a good teacher but not a jazz guy hence the idea didn't work....
All due respect to Mr. Renman, but this clip-- in my opinion-- appears to me to be more of a demonstration than a lesson truly taught. The "breakdown" is too quick, and not purposeful and specific. Disappointing.
God awful demonstration...why wouldn't you say ok here the scale over the Am from the 6th string down to the high E meaning the full scale..and for the D7 why didn't you show the entire scale starting from the D?
Thank you this is exactly what I needed. This is one of the best explanations of the diminished scale.
Robert, Thank you so much!!! I've been trying to figure this scale out for years, when someone else would play it, they'd play it so fast, it went right by me; now I think I have it! You just opened a huge door for me, Sincerely Steve D.
At last, someone that makes the diminished scale understandable,Thanks
Finally a guy who actually plans his lesson before filming it.
Hey Mister Nenman,
I've searching for years, lots of years the real "How to play inside and outside" a blues progression. Now I have it. Not easy to do but the shape note is here.
Thank you very much from France, thank you very much, great lesson.
Pascal.
Another phenomenal lesson Robert. Thank you!
Thank You Robert
Love the camera split. Great lesson, thanks!
Thanks so much for this Robert - finally feel like I can start to climb out of the pentatonic rut🎉
Excellent lesson.

Really nice lesson - explained in a way that ideas can be easily digested!
Excellent! Thank you!
Fantastic Playing!! Ie always stayed away from jazz scales but Ive dreamed of playing it. Now I am practicing to your lesson.Thank you very much!
Hi Robert, you are very good, clear explanation, high pédagogie. Wish to hear more abut you and your lessons. Thank you.

Not every people are the same! ;)
Probably just guitar and amp. Less is more
Thats the scale thats used in the water temple in ocarina of timeeee!!! 😲😲 now its even scarier
Good lesson. Thanks
This lesson just opened new doors for me. Ty!
Easily the clearest and most usable outline of the diminished scale that I've encountered
Great lesson. Very usefull!

At last, someone who teaches how to put the dimished scale to good use.
Love this one!
Thank you very much for this - new avenues are opening up for me :)
Thanks robert i like this lesson very much. Mr.d
EXCELLENT LESSON - Thanks!!
Thank you-you vids are excellent!

Chord tones, like in A minor will be A - C - E
I keep coming back with this lesson ,it's so cool. But I cannot get the fingerings that sliding. And as you said to know how to use it.
Gold!!!
Nice lesson.
Great lesson, thanks
Ficidades maestro Robert por tus clases muy buenas y muy bien explicadas no se inglés pero lo que tocas me doy cuenta
the only reason theres thumbs down is they are lazy i bet i like the way you played those louder notes to complement the other changes
ROBERT NO ENTIENDO INGLES PERO LO QUE ENTENDÍ ES QUE CON ESTA ESCALA DE LAm diminuido PUEDO MODULAR A SOLm.REMPAZANDO EL ACORDE DE RE 7.MUCHAS GRACIAS.SALUDES DESDE COLOMBIA.PEREIRA RISARALDA.
I liked this vid delivery was cool too. Thanks
Great lesson man ;)
Hey,
Very good lesson,
Finally I have the method, now the point is to find the articulation.
Thanks a lot.
Now it is clear, thanks a lot for doing this master. t
Great lesson! Thanks ;)
I like to keep things relative to other things I already learn so I just don't worry about the WHOLE HALF I just worry about the HALF WHOLE. Bflatest
You mixed it with minor pentatonic blues. My question is how do you formulate that accent of phrasing on your head? Is it the backing track that makes makes you think of those melodies?
You just feel it. The backing track is your foundation.
I like your playing. do you teach theory?
OMG I just noticed that the A root HALF WHOLE can be instantly converted to the A WHOLE HALF if you just shift it a half step back!!!! THIS IS BIG!!! SO IN SHORT ... I know the HALF WHOLE real well and now to play the WHOLE HALF just as good I just shift it back a half step BOOM
What do you mean? On A you play the diminished scale starting on A flat ?
unless you want to play the HALF WHOLE
+Bflatest Thanks
Cheers!
Thanks so much and like the split screens. If I'm not careful, I just may learn something. :)
8.05 Pink Panther Theme? Anyone?
Great lesson by the way . Thank you.
Mark Similar, but the Pink Panther scale is called the Gypsy Scale or Hungarian Minor.
Sounds a little like Louie Shelton's riffs in "Valleri" (The Monkees, 1968).
I love the sound, what gear do you use?
Very Cool! Nice job explaining it. I've been trying to get exposed to this forever. You are the fret board master. Thanks!
good one!
Yeah ok - but what amp did you use ...
Isn't this called the whole /half diminished scale ? Pure diminished is every step and a half or every minor third .
Because this is over A minor chord - not dominant 7th.
so helpful things on this video... thanks a lot dude!
i still have not had one person explain the diminished scale clearly ,
So when you play the D7 do you play the half or hole step from D?
Half
this is not the diminished scale. it is only made up of minor 3rds connected straight together making it a pure diminish. the half step whole is a altered 8 tone scale scale yes you can mix the minor scale with it but its not pure then
Thank you. At what section do you teach Smoke on the Water?
Oh that was funny
❤
I thought I heard some Santana in there. I wonder if he's used this in his music.
He mostly uses dorian. I dont remember a particular diminushed sound in his songs.
To me the diminished scale is more reminiscent of guitarists like John Schofield, Josh Smith, Allan Holdsworth, etc
In rock is whole half better?
Beeastman123
Thanks for this its realy help for my noob pentantonic
You can do a lot more than you migh think with that noob pentatonic lol
Carol Kaye Electric Bass Lines #2. Diminished run sliding on the half steps on Page 7, second line. I'm jus sayin'.
And tablature
sounds alottttttttt like dorian parallel mode
fala demais e não explica nda sobre a escala diminuta
too bad no tab for the friggin scale thanks
What do you need tab for? He spells out how to play the scale so clearly you don't need tabs.
h
It s not lesson it s lesson for money
It's scary! Don't play it! Ahhhhhhhhh.....!!!
No no no you avé TGV
He is correct but the delivery is a bit dull.
Oddly, your comment is also a bit dull.

MrPrytania1 Who gives a shit what you think?
Dolphinstreet rob.... u r sounding too jazzish could have added some yjm stuffs.... but u r a good teacher but not a jazz guy hence the idea didn't work....
All due respect to Mr. Renman, but this clip-- in my opinion-- appears to me to be more of a demonstration than a lesson truly taught. The "breakdown" is too quick, and not purposeful and specific. Disappointing.
What is ironic? Is white guys don't play the blues they give the blues.
God awful demonstration...why wouldn't you say ok here the scale over the Am from the 6th string down to the high E meaning the full scale..and for the D7 why didn't you show the entire scale starting from the D?
Great lesson, thanks!
