i have not seen a debate where cenk clearly won. at most an equal debate with no knockouts. or the conservative side won. i think the left needs ppl better at debating... or their ideas are not strong enough.
I was pleasantly surprised by Tucker Carlson during his debate with Cenk. Yeah, he did laugh hysterically like he normally does on his program at certain points, but he was willing to understand Cenk's perspective on the various issues that were discussed. Maybe it was an act, maybe it wasn't, either way he did alright, significantly better than the laughingstock that was Charlie Kirk.
With a lot of these right-wing pundits, it's a combination. They will pander to the more progressive crowd and sound more reasonable to plant seeds/twist progressive talking points into more right-wing ones, and they also massively play into an on-screen persona while on FOX news - a lot of that is an act. Even the likes of Bill O'Reilly was almost a different person when he went onto the Daily Show vs when John Stewart went onto his show.
The funny thing too is that everything he criticized Shapiro for doing he does himself. Basically the Freudian definition of projection lol. From a debate or speech standpoint, Shapiro definitely is less interesting to listen to than his show, where he thoroughly addresses points that counter his own.
Honestly it's unfair to call Tucker a salesmen, regardless of his actions it's really uncalled for. Tucker had legitimate points of his real ideas and that was amazing. I actually started laughing when Ana said that. Her judgement is clouded by her hatred for Tucker. In her eyes, he's incapable of having a conversation like a real human being and she convinces herself that this must be some trick. Sure, there's a chance that this was a calculated strategy, but if it resulted in an actual exchange of ideas, why is it such a big deal? They moderated themselves perfectly, they reached a few points of agreement, and they never got too personal or started begging for applause. A fantastic debate to watch if you are watching with an open mind.

Tucker vs. Cenk was my favorite of Cenk's debates at Politicon because it was more like a discussion. I wish it was more than an hour and I'd love to see some kind of follow-up discussion between the two.
It was more interesting than I expected, but I wanted them to clash a bit harder on points. Tucker deflected to a lot of tangents, and instead of hitting him, Cenk indulged some of those tangents because he was genuinely curious about them.
Honestly, both Cenk and Tucker had solid points. Ana is wrong, Tucker wasn’t nervous by the crowd, when they boo’ed him he went straight at them in saying “I can win you” or “yeah boo boo”...
As a Right winger I' so happy the Cent is considered one of the leaders of the regressive movement. Nailed it, Kasparian nailed it. I watched the whole debate. Tucker was overwhelmed. He knew that without a team of writers he would have appeared weak and dumb. He would have tarnished his image, he couldnt risk that.
It's not the video per say. It's the fact that if you watch Tucker, he is not the type of person that welcomes dissenting ideas. He is extremely intolerant and recurs to name-calling among other "strategies" when he is on his show (as is his right). But what exactly was he going to do if this debate had gone south and he found himself in uncharted territory? It is just an opinion but a very logical one. Tucker made a conscience decision to not go where he normally goes based on his surroundings and audience. This was not a pro-Fox crowd and he knew that; he had his fans but so did Cenk. And if you watch the debate again, he did a lot of his same strategies of deflect and pivot when asked, for example, about money in politics. But if you would prefer to elaborate, I would happily read your take.

In his entire discussion with Sam Harris Cenk denied basic facts and evidance given by Sam only to try to win the debate, and not trying to get his mind changed and see things from a different perspective.

Disclosure: I'm a Republican who voted for Trump and mourned his departure from the White House. That being said, Ben Shapiro mopped the floor with Cenk Uighur in the debate that they had. When Ana Kasparian did the debate with Ben Shapiro; while I still sided with Ben Shapiro, Ana Kasparian did hold her own. I may have disagreed with her and ultimately found her unpersuasive, but she did have facts. She didn't make personal attacks like Cenk did with Dinesh D'Souza and she didn't just say "google it" like Cenk did when he debated Ben Shapiro.

I also liked that both of you were kind to each other. Participating in and exemplifying polite political discussion is what our country really needs right now, because all most people know is screaming and attacking. I felt like Tucker was trying to "extend an olive branch" and really give you a fair chance to talk out your ideas.

Yeah, that sorta bothered me too. He's criticising the guy for knowing his numbers. If he weren't to have the exact statistic (like a robot) then Cenk would argue that Shapiro's claims can't be substantiated and he would be labelled as racist, homophobic, bigoted etc. The comments on Shapiro not wanting to have a discussion also bothered me. He interacts with the left-wing often which is why he'ssuch a vicious debater. He knows his stuff and naturally if you want to move someone who knows their stuff you need to bring something more than the mainstream liberal arguments. He seems to be not very well versed in different political movements, but mostly just triggered when any such movement has the word "social" in it. What he does is being very effective in debating in a way that makes him seem to win.

This debate was pretty quiet and uneventful so it won't get clipped all over the net, so almost no one will see it. Tucker vs. Cenk was my favorite of Cenk's debates at Politicon because it was more like a discussion. I wish it was more than an hour and I'd love to see some kind of follow-up discussion between the two.
It was more interesting than I expected, but I wanted them to clash a bit harder on points. Tucker deflected to a lot of tangents, and instead of hitting him, Cenk indulged some of those tangents because he was genuinely curious about them.
Honestly, both Cenk and Tucker had solid points. Ana is wrong, Tucker wasn’t nervous by the crowd, when they boo’ed him he went straight at them in saying “I can win you” or “yeah boo boo”...
I agree, I was so pleasantly surprised by that discussion!
As a Right winger I' so happy the Cent is considered one of the leaders of the regressive movement. He participates in these debates, makes an absolute fool of himself and then comes on his show with his acolytes by his side and congratulates himself. The debates he had with Shapiro and Sam Harris where cringeworthy to watch, even for me.
Why where they uncomfortable for me who disagrees with almost everything Cent stands for? Because I have empathy which is not to be confused with sympathy. I watch Cent making such a an idiot of himself and I feel sorry for him as a human being. It must be terrible to be embarrassed so badly.

B/c if he is, he should invite you back on Fox. And you reaching that audience is perhaps more significant than him reaching TYT audience.

Nailed it, Kasparian nailed it. I watched the whole debate. Tucker was overwhelmed. He knew that without a team of writers he would have appeared weak and dumb. He would have tarnished his image, he couldnt risk that.

It's not the video per say. It's the fact that if you watch Tucker, he is not the type of person that welcomes dissenting ideas. He is extremely intolerant and recurs to name-calling among other "strategies" when he is on his show (as is his right). But what exactly was he going to do if this debate had gone south and he found himself in uncharted territory? It is just an opinion but a very logical one. Tucker made a conscience decision to not go where he normally goes based on his surroundings and audience. This was not a pro-Fox crowd and he knew that; he had his fans but so did Cenk. And if you watch the debate again, he did a lot of his same strategies of deflect and pivot when asked, for example, about money in politics. But if you would prefer to elaborate, I would happily read your take.
@William Girard Quite the opposite. He invites liberal guests all the time to argue their points.. He just doesn't like talking points and robot talk. He pretty much acted exactly the same as he would on his Fox show. As for being afraid of the crowd, i guarantee you his isn't. He will say what he wants to say. I'm being serious when i say this, but try watching a whole eopisode or two of him to get an idea of his personality. not just snippets of him that are taken out of context.

Cenk should be the last person on this planet to complain about people just wanting to win arguments and not wanting to exchange ideas and thoughts in debates. In his entire discussion with Sam Harris Cenk denied basic facts and evidance given by Sam only to try to win the debate, and not trying to get his mind changed and see things from a different perspective.
I saw that debate and I think Joe Rogan summed it up best on how cenk was purposely misunderstanding his points. So when cenk mentions people wanting to win and not listen or learn is laughable and further proves my opinions on him.

Disclosure: I'm a Republican who voted for Trump and mourned his departure from the White House. That being said, Ben Shapiro mopped the floor with Cenk Uighur in the debate that they had. When Ana Kasparian did the debate with Ben Shapiro; while I still sided with Ben Shapiro, Ana Kasparian did hold her own. I may have disagreed with her and ultimately found her unpersuasive, but she did have facts. She didn't make personal attacks like Cenk did with Dinesh D'Souza and she didn't just say "google it" like Cenk did when he debated Ben Shapiro.

Cenk, even as a conservative/libertarian I greatly enjoyed your discussion/sort of debate with Tucker. I love how it was civil, polite, and remained focused or topics instead of ad hominem attacks. I also liked that both of you were kind to each other. Participating in and exemplifying polite political discussion is what our country really needs right now, because all most people know is screaming and attacking. I felt like Tucker was trying to "extend an olive branch" and really give you a fair chance to talk out your ideas.

Tucker Carlson definitely came off likable during his discussion with Cenk which caused me to listen to him more, unlike Ben Shapiro for example. Tucker certainly made interesting points. The comments on Shapiro not wanting to have a discussion also bothered me. He interacts with the left-wing often which is why he'ssuch a vicious debater. He knows his stuff and naturally if you want to move someone who knows their stuff you need to bring something more than the mainstream liberal arguments.
It might be a fair assessment to say Shapiro seeks to 'crush' the progressive left but he will often engage is solid discussion with classical liberals and libertarians fairly easily. For that reason I don't think it's Shapiro that's the problem.
@Rieksfier Regurgitating "research and facts" is not all he does though. For example his "tax is theft" idea is not a fact. He seems to be not very well versed in different political movements, but mostly just triggered when any such movement has the word "social" in it. His idea that moral values come from (western) religion is not a fact backed up by any serious scientific research or facts.
What he does is being very effective in debating in a way that makes him seem to win.
I saw the worst debate tactic ever brought up by cenk in the dinesh debate, he did a criminal record check on him and tried to use it as a debate tactic to throw him off, not relevant to the debate topic at all. cenk is a weasel.

This debate was pretty quiet and uneventful so it won't get clipped all over the net, so almost no one will see it. Had Tucker made it a big fight then he WOULD have lost the arguments in a very dramatic way and that would have got a lot of views.

It's like the idea of someone being open minded in a debate is so unrealistic to Anna that she has to make up her own internal logic as to why this may be the case. It's like human decency just isn't even a possibility. Tucker is the host of a right wing show. I could easily make the opposite argument that he is exacerbating his views and attitude on his show to appeal to his higher ups and audience. Maybe the version of him that cenk witnessed is how he really acts. The argument can be made both ways.

Ideally if you're going to debate you want to engage in productive discourse. If you're being abrasive the whole time you aren't going achieve anything so why would he act that way?
