Tried this method. Left it for 48 hours. Worked great! Couldn't get gun in without slide moving and using considerable force. Afterwards, slides in and out easily, but still holds gun firmly. Perfect!!
I like leather holsters for my two pistols and when I bought mine they were the same way to draw the weapon so what I done was I use wax paper from the cabinet in the kitchen and wrap my pistol kept it in the holster for about 2 weeks I'm with the wax finish of the paper getting on the leather inside of the holster it now enables me to withdraw that weapon very very smoothly very easily and not scratching up the finish
I have always preferred leather over kydex. It's alot more forgiving when you sit down. And call me childish, but I've always loved the slight squeak of leather. Reminds me of cowboys.
BoomStick Tactical I just bought a Tagua outside the waist band for my Taurus public defender. I've learned that there is a difference in leather. You get what you pay for.
Having worked in the shoe repair business and stretching leather shoes out, we used to spray alcohol on the shoes with a shoe stretcher devise inserted. The alcohol helped the leather stay stretched without discoloring or damaging the leather. I think if you insert the pistol while inside the bag, and then spray with alcohol, this should speed up the stretching process to overnight.
This is the same process as breaking in ur first baseball time , if u rush it they suck , if u take ur time there Awsome for a long long time ! Take ur time boys don’t rush it ! Remember ur wife when she was 20 😂 compared to now 😂
Just got my first leather holster for my EDC, always used Kydex before. It was VERY tight at first and I almost returned it immediately because I thought it was the wrong size. But, all leather products need breaking in. I did the plastic bag trick and now my firearm fits like a glove. And, it's so much more comfortable. Thank you.
I bought a custom made leather holster for my 1911 and the instructions with the holster said to mist the inside of the holster with a little bit of water from a spray bottle, wrap the pistol in Saran Wrap and stick it in the holster for a couple of days. Repeat if still too tight. I did this and it is a perfect fit now.
Thank you for this video. I’m relatively amateur when it comes to guns, I’m new to the game and I had a little automatic and I bought a leather holster and I was upset because I thought they sent me the wrong one. Went on RUclips and found you. I subscribed I’ll check you out when I see something interesting.
Great info! I just ordered a new leather holster for my 1911 and it is due to come in in the next couple of days. I wasn't sure how to break it in and this video gave me the needed info to make it happen. Many thx!!!!!
Works like a charm! I put 3 big sammitch bags on my 1911 and let it sit while I worked on the garden for an hour or 2 and she's still snug but totally workable now.
1791 leather holsters are great. Try the ultimate Custom holster, best holster I've ever owned. As long as you follow the instructions, takes about 10 minutes, you'll never buy another holster.
While your stretching the holster with the bag an old cobblers truck is to use isopropyl alcohol on the real tight areas.. this will shorten the break in without leaving and residue as the alcohol evaporates off.
I'm thinking mink oil on the retaining strap, as it doesn't need to retain a form, but does need to stretch & to be pliable without tear. (It is v.tight, at present, 1st week). Thoughts?
I had that same problem on an OLD (B28-Perfect Fit) kind of Hard. holster similar to this one s So after i tried 9 neat's-foot oil rub in applications, trying to slowly stretch it , I put my holster in water. Yes in water. just long enough while i wrapped my pistol in cerran wrap. I added though some strips of wood on the sides and top on the gun and wrapped it in the clear cerran wrape . I wraped it in this so the gun wouldn.t get water on it. I PUSHSED the gun in holding the slide... and PULLED (stretched) the snap strap over and snapped it . I let it fry over night so next day OH YA it worked.!!!! Nice holster now for my 380. thanks God bless
Thank you, I prefer leather holders, Infeel they last longer and hold the Firearm better. You do a great job in explaining the break in process, keep up the good work.
Good video. Much appreciated. I do prefer leather holsters and have several different models of hand guns. I feel that the leather holsters hold the guns closer to my body and therefore are slightly hidden better. The canvas/cloth/plastic holsters feel much more bulky and the weapon is obviously farther away from my body.
Urban Carry Lockleather owb for my VP40 arrived very tight but is great now. Excellent holster. Had to trim a bit to allow full grip for the draw. Arrived about 10 days after order.
@boomsticktactical I like leather holsters I just got one from Midway is a shoulder holster and I immediately modified it with a second strap on the other side and now working to soften up the leather I'm using , I used blackrock leather 'n' rich first then applied redwing shoes leather conditioner and will apply redwing mink oil on it to soften it more as the leather was very stiff and thick.

It is hard to go wrong with a Craft Holster for sure! I have purchased three of them so far. The craftsmanship is hard to beat. The holsters are worth the wait.
Kydex is like velcro. Extremely loud in a stealth situation. Plus leather rocks! Another thing you can do is lightly spray the holster with alcohol. Insert pistol and mold to liking then let dry.
The first holster I bought was a leather one from relentless tactical. The instruction that came with it said to get a nylon dress sock and put my gun in it for 24 hours. I did and my gun wouldn't stay in my new holster. I haven't had a leather one since then. The first cc1 I went to the instructor said I couldn't use because it took two hands to re holster. I carry my Glock 43 in a Galco leather holster. It is an outside the waistband and is very comfortable. I just bought a De Santis Dual Carry 2 in leather and am stretching it now. It has the little strap that snaps on top. I put a sock over the pistol and forced it into the holster to stretch it. I'll leave it like that for a day or two and I'll carry one of my other pistols until it gets stretched. Leather is the only way to go for comfort.
I can say without a doubt that the G43 is the last concealed carry pistol I'll ever own. I use a Taran Tactical +2 mag extension, a Ghost 3.5 connector, Glock night sights on rear and XS Big Dot on front, and Talon grips as mods. I load it with Ruger ARX +P 9mm ammo. Great self defense pistol.
I have the Glock 43 and purchased a leather holster from Holsterpro.com. Great retention, covered trigger and fit perfect from day one. Go check him out. Got nice in about 2 weeks!
QuickTip to get your break in process done in 20 minutes. Take what you have there and put in large ziplock pour a smidge of water in and keep in the corner (not touching leather) and set it on top of a space heater. The heat/moisture will soften up the leather and you’re ready to carry out the door in 20 to 30 minutes.

Do leather holsters have good retention? I am used to using a kydex AIWB which has great retention. I dont have to worry abou it when I am running/jumping
Can you recommend to me an IWB cross draw holster for a Bersa Firestorm .380? I'm right handed, and am having a tough time finding ANY cross draw holsters. Thank you so much.
+John Edwards there are so many on the market and everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Alien gear makes some nice ones and there are a lot of custom made holsters on the market as well. Amazon and eBay are where I usually get mine.
I will take a leather holster over kydex anytime, yes it takes a while to break it in. They look great, smell good, they are softer over all a class act over kydex.
Can I shrink my holster some by getting it wet then use a heat gun/hairdryer to dry it.? It is a easy draw but if I just the holster upside down the weapon will slip out!!
@@BoomStickTactical How do i get the leather to stiffen back up? I got a holster and, using your advice, got the leather to soften up nicely so that my pistol draws nice and smoothly. Problem now is I want the leather to contour to the pistol a bit better. Help?

I just got a De Santis for my 686. Not sure if I should use my mink oil. I know mink oil discolors brown leather but mine is black.

No. You will lose the form from the factory and your basically re molding it.

Do leather holsters have good retention? I am used to using a kydex AIWB which has great retention. I dont have to worry abou it when I am running/jumping
It depends on the manufacturer. Some are better than others
What pistol is that?
It's a Gen 3 Smith. Here's a recent video I did on it: ruclips.net/video/7vocDDHdeo8/видео.htmlsi=TyHrlFIqUqvIfMty
Leather over Kydex any day of the week. I carry in the pocket or IWB only. Kydex is pretty uncomfortable against the skin.
I'm a leather fan myself. Thanks for watching
I will take a leather holster over kydex anytime, yes it takes a while to break it in. They look great, smell good, they are softer over all a class act over kydex.
I wear leather more than any other type
Nice video

All my holsters are leather. I have a suede one for my .380... possibly my favorite of all of them.
I'm a fan of leather also
Can I shrink my holster some by getting it wet then use a heat gun/hairdryer to dry it.? It is a easy draw but if I just the holster upside down the weapon will slip out!!
Don't use a heat gun. Wet it with warm water and remold it to your gun.
I got a leather holster for a nice Walther PP.
:( i was ignorant about the break in and didnt bag it and now my blueing is ruined:(
That can happen. The finish on any gun you regularly Carry can be affected
Not complaining and I don't want to seem ungrateful for the advice, but he gets to the point at about 3:30.
Which is sooner than I get to the point in other videos 🤣
@@BoomStickTactical How do i get the leather to stiffen back up? I got a holster and, using your advice, got the leather to soften up nicely so that my pistol draws nice and smoothly. Problem now is I want the leather to contour to the pistol a bit better. Help?
@@gargoyleb stretching the leather using this technique shouldn't have made it any softer than it was originally.
Nice work but I couldn't focus cos of the tree coming out of your head. cons of being a photographer. 🤘
+Mohamed Dima it's hard to know what the scene looks like when you're in front of the camera. Thanks for watching.

Been looking for a holster for my 4506, who is the maker if I may ask and where did you purchase it?
+mdwiese I actually found this on ebay. I did a search for the 4506 and this was one on the list. It's not a big brand name but is real leather. Thanks for watching.
I prefer leather holsters because it fits to the shape of your body better
Very true
Horse hide holsters do not shrink or expand like cow hide holsters do that have to have a snap strap to keep the gun in the holster
Hard to find those around here
