@@lujalainen1 Very first time when Floor performed in Finland as a lead vocalist for Nightwish was already in November 2012( Hartwall Areena 10.11.- 12) when they came here in FIN for the world premier of the movie "Imaginaerum"...Guess it was gig #14 with them for Floor J.
The Nightwish Army would like to congratulate you on your 47 years. Hope you have a nice day in this time of covid. Wish you a lot of health. And finally the big moment the best show on earth. Enjoy it.
Happy birthday G. Before starting Nightwish Tuomas studied biology, it was during studies in the US his host family brought him to a Metallica concert and Tuomas life changed. And Floor wanted to be a biologist when she was a kid. Troy is playing an Irish low whistle in the beginning, in the Wembley version he plays electric guitar with an E-bow. LUCA = Last universal common ancestor. The writing in the garden = DNA, its just 4 letters: A,C,G and T. We were here! It goes both for us as a specie, and for us as individuals. The odds of you being born as you is1:400.000.000.000. The text Dawkins reads at the end is from Darwin.
Happy birthday, and thank you for sharing this present with us! On a side note: In the Dawkins monologue at the end, I always imagine him saying, "Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton, singers greater than Floor . . . wait, sorry, scratch that last one . . .that ain't happening."
Happy birthday Ginger! As a paleoevolutionary biologist myself, this song really pushes all of my nerd buttons, and when you add this to the fact that I'm also a classical musician this is quite possibly one of my favourite songs of all time. The instrumentation is phenomenal, the key changes fantastic, and the fact they have fireworks interlinked with the E major chords at the beginning which symbolises the formation of the earth and possibly the formation of the moon after the impact from Thea, is just mind blowing. And when you put Prof. Richard Dawkins into the mix, narrating from his book, the song for me is just perfect! Opus perfectum, indeed.
As I wrote to another reactors wall: and 23000+ humans wondered next morning where their voice had disappeared Floor shouting: "AS LOUD AS YOU CAN - We Were Here!!"" She also said that this should be shown to all students in scools - Luca, Devionian Sea, Lucy - this would make kids to dig in Earths history 🙂🙂
Happy birthday Ginger! You are such a character!!! Tuomas had a Christian upbringing, his grandpa was a priest, the leader of the local evangelic lutherian congrigation in Kitee, a small town of 10 000 people, where Tuomas, Emppu, Jukka and Tarja are originally from. And there were many priests in the family before him. Tuomas grandpa had seven daughters, but no son. That was the end of long line of priests in the family. Tuomas, by the way, is a mean pipe organ player. A short 2 minute clip on YT proves that. He also used to play the clarinet and the saxophone. In an interview in 2007 the interviewer was teasing/provoking Tuomas by saying Nightwish is a religion. "Whenever you write a new song your followers read the lyrics like they were a holy scripture." Tuomas: "I like the way you put it. May I quote you on that? My gradpa is smiling in his grave." Based on an interview I have the understanding that Tuomas' wife Johanna Kurkela, a well know vocalist herself, the new album of Auri, with Tuomas and Troy, was just completed a couple of days ago, has some kind of religious conviction or belief in a supernatural power, God or whatever you call it. Since we are talking about convictions, I can tell I am an atheist. In Finland the state church, though the politicians decided not to call it that anymore, still has preferencial treatment by the state of Finland, and I would like to see a change in that. I would like the church to do it's own job, without the help of the state. The Church can still force it's beliefs in schools. 68%, (the number is going down steadily at the rate of about 1 percentage point a year), of Finns are, STILL!, members of the state church, many because of tradition only. If you ask the members how ofter they go to a church service, the most common answers are not at all or once a year. The awerage is one time per member per one year! Members in name only! In Helsinki 50 % of people are members of the church, it's going to go under 50% soon. Ten years ago 40 000 people left the church in one month, as a protest against how the church treats homosexuals. Normally around 50 000 per year. There is this internet site where you can resign from the membership. It started in 2003 and as of today 750 000 members have used the service. 3,8M members are left today. The population of Finland is 5,5M. Less and less children are being baptized. Younger generations are quite secular. Some already suggested Nightwish "Weak Fantasy". The song is about religion, religious oppression, letting fear dictate your life. I prefer the Tampere version over Wembley Hi again from Helsinki.
The guttural noises are Troy, Marko and Floor together. And when they played Wembley Dawkins came out on stage and read the last part live, in front of 12.500 metalheads.
@@teardrop-in-a-fishbowl But that's the part that creationists seems to missunderstand. They think that it means that everything came to be at a moments notice, like a real explosion. Not that it took twenty million years. But then again, they think the earth is 6-8.000 years old.
Thanks guy's. Enjoyed your reaction. Just had my 75th birthday and spent the evening listen to Nightwish on youtube. I have been a Nightwish fan for a long time and this performance, (which I have seen many tines) introduced me to Richard Dawkins. I have read "The selfish Gene", "The god delusion" and am reading "The greatest show on earth". It opens up a whole new world.
As a biology nerd myself this song always makes me smile thinking about how crazy it is that we are here. I loved that you commented and understand the biology and science behind the lyrics but also on how the music followed this...the calm and then the chaos. I personally always thought too that the fact that they throw in a brief evolution of music was really great. I like too that the “Homo Sapien” section was really short compared to the opening piano, etc as it shows too that we are a speck on the timeline of this planet. The opening lyrics and the way sung by Floor always gets me a little as I picture somehow being there to see the first sunrise and how incredible that would have been. The first two verses after that might be some of if not my favorite lyrics not only of Nightwish but any song...again science guy here. Happy Birthday and cheers 🥂
I love your genuine smile Ginger and Mike's restrained exuberance. Great song and reaction. You two get it. Thank you both. I'm in your age group, I'm 50 and Floor makes me cry. Whether you believe in evolution or God, when you hear Floor I'll go with God, she was sent from Heaven.
As much as I love The Poet and the Pendulum and what it does represent, I STILL think for me it’s this song that can ALWAYS make me ball like a baby no matter how many times I hear it or see it, it’s just so magical!!! And then actually SEEING IT LIKE THIS, ohhh my this is the most moving performance I’ve ever seen from Nightwish or from ANY group ever in my life!!! 👌👌😀😀
Tuomas is gifted where most are. Tuomas is also the mastermind behinds 90+% of Nightwish's music. Including this. Also you guys will love the Human. :II: Nature. album...when you're ready for it.

Two complete strangers spreading warmth and wit while enjoying a remarkable piece of art, certainly is a much appreciated gift to many, who are desperately seeking a reason to smile in pandemic times. Thank You!
Now when seen the "after show", yeah Tuomas has "always said" that music doesn't matter at all, its what the music does to you, feelings, thoughts and all that, that matters, so spot on! nice reaction again Thank you!
Happy Birthday Ginger. You picked the perfect song to celebrate. This song is truly a masterpiece. Of course all of Nightwishs songs are, but this one in particular. Someone once said, on a scale of one to ten, this is a 50. And I totally agree. Have a great day. 😁👍🎂
Wow, this is going to be my third comment, but there is so much to talk about. Elizabeth Zahroff, aka The Charismatic Voice, feels the same way about science and evolution as you, and has a t-shirt you are going to love, Science is magic, but real. Hi Ginger. 21. Oct. is my 52. birthday. So, congratulations to you too :-) I am a Nightwish fan since almost 20 years now and enjoy your reactions since the beginning. Please carry on. Greetings from Germany, Luge
Hi from the UK. Very belated Happy Birthday! Just another day at the Nightwish office! Floor is Dutch and is classically trained. She is a 2m powerhouse and can really "sell" a story with emotion, expression and her vocal gymnastics. Nightwish instrumentalists...there are no words. Always epic performances, sometimes inclusive with audience participation and brilliant compositions, which take you on a journey! Great reactions and analysis. Best wishes and stay safe.
Amazing birthday gift! Happy birthday Ginger and many more years to come. Deep, awesome reaction, thank you both! Greetings from Tampere. Stay safe both of you!
Floors parents being at this show….How proud they must be to see the positive and joyous effect their daughter and this incredible band has on thousands of people must be almost overwhelming. The band that can call it “The Greatest Show on Earth” and deliver on all points artistic and philosophical …just an incredible adventure in songwriting and performance
Congrats Ginger 🎉🎁💐🎈🎊 ! I love how you Guys think and talk about believing, our planet, our world🥰 It's such a interesting and beautifull topic to think and talk about.
You deliverd one of the best and still happy (birthday) analysises for this wonder of music. Very well done. Did you paid attention to the dress Floor was wearing, the dna helixes, what an attention to detail. This is a monumental piece. I enjoyed your show even when I have seen and heard this piece of music many many times before. And cheers also for your birthday, so well and adequate selected beautiful music that celebrates live.
There's a line in another Nightwish song called Last Ride of the Day. What is god if not the spark that started life. Great song to check out, its their concert closer at Wacken 2013
The Greatest Band on Earth presents "The Greatest Show on Earth"! Nice reaction again! I saw a few Floorgasms during the song... I like you both! Best (night)wishes from Bulgaria-Europe!
Happy birthday. I think it was a great epic song for you birthday. When they get to We We’re Here part it is so emotional on many levels. Thanks for the great reaction and enjoy your birthday.
Happy Birthday Ginger .. I just had my 46th Birthday last weekend :) so glad you guys reacted to this song... I love how Floor sounds and looks part Scorceress and part seraphim! *sigh* The only woman I ever loved (apart from my wife, Dr Alice Roberts, Nigella Lawson and Gillian Anderson) 😃😃
Happy birthday Ginger! Another great reaction, and I like how you went through it twice so that you could add your reactions at perfect moments later instead of randomly stopping and messing up the flow of the music, full marks! You two seem so like me and my wife - several years ago she had started to get interested in nuclear physics from someone she knew who had sailed on a nuclear submarine. I'll never forget her reaction when she asked me how a nuclear power station created electricity (I used to work in the labs at a nuclear plant). She was gobsmacked to learn that all it essentially did was boil water. She' d thought the electricity was somehow transferred in an exciting, possibly quantum way directly from the radiation somehow. And now we regularly have discussions about string theory, gravitational lensing, quantum computers, entanglement etc. It is good, imo, to have an enquiring mind, to keep that aspect of childhood with you as you grow up, so that you can still see wonder and beauty around you, that there are always new questions to ask, new avenues to explore. If you grow up in a situation where you are told that we know everything, so don't ask questions, you stagnate. /endrant You might also like "Exist" by Avenged Sevenfold. It has Neil DeGrasse Tyson in it. [edit] About the "any sufficiently advanced.." was Arthur Clark.
Couldn’t agree more! My mother thinks it’s weird, the kind of conversations we have together. But I can’t imagine a more boring life, than to just babble on about nothing important 🤷♀️ These things around us really are like magic. It’s fascinating. Appreciate having you around 🙏🏻 - G
Happy birthday for Ginger! This is without a doubt one of the best (if not THE best) reaction video of TGSoE that I've seen so far. And I've seen plenty of them. Very thorough and deep analysis, with not-so-often-noticed details like "LUCA" or the general understanding of Universe/Earth/human evolution in this masterpiece. Thank you very much, keep up the good work!
Thank you, JJ! I’m so glad it’s resonating so well. It’s hard to find other people to have these conversations with. But we always enjoy them so much 🥰 - G
This was a 10/10 reaction to this song - which was worthy of an amazing birthday present for sure (and belated Happy Birthday Ginger!). It's wonderful to see a reaction to this song from people who love Science, who are knowledgeable about the Universe and understand all the little brilliant references in the song, who appreciate the genius of the music, who do all their pauses in the right time and who have such interesting things to say. One of the top 3 best reactions to The Greatest Show on Earth that I've seen. On a more personal note, I'm an atheist and a scientist and I live in wonder, I wake up everyday grateful and excited to be alive, it's such an amazing feeling to look everywhere and see such awesome things - in the truest sense of the word - and to try to learn about them and how they came to be. As Carl Sagan once said "We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself", what grander view of life is there? This song really expresses all of that in such a wonderful, exciting way. And you guys _get it_ and it was a joy to see this video. You've gained a new sub and I can't wait to see other reactions from you.
Happy birthday beautiful Ginger. this is a great choice for your birthday. Floor's parents were present at this concert. Floor lives in Finland but is originally from the Netherlands. hope you have a nice day, thanks again for this comment video. Still a lot of Nightwish to go and then prepare for Poet and the pendulum 😘
Once again, Happy Birthday! Thanks for an excellent reaction. I knew you would love this. Being a Christian I do, of course, see these events differently, but I do truly enjoy the music and enjoyed your discussion of them. The final line I believe is from Charles Darwin's writings.
Definitely one of Nightwishes songs I like the most! Also the shortest feeling long song I know... Edit, almost always seem to get a tear at the "We were here"..
@Play It Again with Mike and Ginger I liked your reaction so much I just watched it again. One thing towards the end really caught my attention though. "Let's face it, as much as we love music, that stuff's bigger and more important" (close enough quote). I respectfully disagree. As much as I love the various fields of science, one thing I've come to understand more over the years - science needs its companion. It is cold, of necessity. For the complete human experience, we need Art AND Science together. Science gets us where we are today and hopefully beyond. But it's in art, particularly music, where we find our inspiration and indeed express what it is to know and do all these things...with the understanding there's *so much more*. In my mind the two are inextricably bound and go hand-in-hand.

Thank you! ❤️ I did notice her dress. Very cool - G

as a so cald often in the world a very direct blunt Dutchman I loved your faces during the reaction Wel done and Greetings

You might also like "Exist" by Avenged Sevenfold.
Your appreciation of the lyrics and performance are amazing. Thank you so much for an amazing reaction

Happy Birthday Ginger, Awesome choice from Nightwish, This tune always puts me on another planet. Cheers \m/
Thank you ❤️ -G
Damn you cracked me up with the fish with legs comment lol, love your reactions guys.
Thank you! It was a wonderful experience for us, too! - G
for some reason .. the end of the song is more emotional for me ... love when they come out and interact with the fans ..
Happy birthday to You! I like yours reaction. Ans that its best song ever.
Thank you 😊- G
happy birthday Ginger, you beautiful soul.
Thank you, Lovely! 🥰 - G
Happy birthday, this song is a great present for it!👍🏻🎉
Thank you! - G
Floor did live in Finland for a short time, but now lives in Sweden.
Thank you 🙏🏻- G
Happy birthday lovely woman🥰🥰🥳🥳
Thank you! - G
Once again, Happy Birthday! Thanks for an excellent reaction. I knew you would love this.
Being a Christian I do, of course, see these events differently, but I do truly enjoy the music and enjoyed your discussion of them. The final line I believe is from Charles Darwin's writings.
Thank you, Bill! - G
Definitely one of Nightwishes songs I like the most! Also the shortest feeling long song I know...
Edit, almost always seem to get a tear at the "We were here"..
Happy Birthday omg you look younger!! Thank you for the reactions and keep it up with the NightWish train ;)
Thank you!❤️ - G
Floor's joyous facial expressions make you want to cheer them on like a football team!!
Happy Birthday!!! What a great gift for *us*!
Thank you! - G
