Hello, thanks for the video. I have cracked screen and now I can see liquid crystal spill on the screen. Is it still repairable? How much do you charge?
Hello. Great video. Thank you. As soon my Macbookair update the iOs, to BigSUr 11.4, the scree show a band in the right side, sometimes white, some other times black with color lines. This band apear before the boot up, before the apple icon appears on the screen. Is it possible a problem from the system update? or is a screen problem that should have to be replaced? I will appreciate your help.
Hi Milan I have a MacBook Air A1466 mid 2012 the screen is damaged black I want you to replace it for me I don’t have time for it,I’m in New York how far are you and how much you charge?
great video. looks hard, but maybe worth a try. my problem is, i have had a repair shop look at my MacBook air A1466, and they reckon it's the panel, and wanted to charge me more than the cost of a decent 2nd hand MacBook air to replace it. so, I said no thanks. But before i buy a replacement panel and try this repair, how can I check it's IS the panel that needs replacing? I connected a spare monitor via the thunderbolt port and that didn't work either, so how can I be sure the panel is the problem?
@@Apple.Repair I don't really know im not that tech savy maybe the room was to bright for the lights to activate that's what happened when i was testing if my keyboard worked the room was to bright so the lights wouldn't come on. Thats the only idea I have besides retrying putting the backlight connector in.
Apple original adhesive is black, have the mba been worked on before, because the adhesive on the bezel is not original unless all the ones I've done came with blk adhesive
I have replaced probably 400+ of these screens, and each and every time adhesive on the bezel is clear on the outer border of the bezel, and black gasket type on the inside border of the bezel. There is also black adhesive holding the screen in place. So no, the Mac was opened for the first time and original adhesive on these assemblies is as described above. I have had original assembly replacements from Shenzhen to work with, they are what these laptops come assembled with in the first place and it's the same. Not sure what you worked on tough...
hi. the tech at my office...had a screen working... backlight worked...everything worked. he took out the screen as you explained. put the new one and the screen works but not the backlight now.... what could have caused this?
Thank you for your guide what temperature do you set your heat-gun? I'm always afraid of setting it too hot and damaging something. But if I set it too low, the glue doesn't melt and I have to use more strenght to take-off the screen (or battery or whatever I'm trying to unstick)
mac air , what size screw driver do i use for the two tiny screws that hold the connectors on the 13" mac air, i have tried several different sizes and have not been able to remove them don't want to strip them
If you are referring to 2 screws that hold the controller board for the LCD that's a Philips Snead screw. If you can't remove them, and tried, you probably stripped them already. If that's the case just use a bigger Phillips and press harder. If they don't come out you will have to rip them out with a flathead
Hi Milan, Thanks for the video. Do you know if I can replace an original screen mounted on an A1466 with an original screen mounted on an A1237? Thanks for eventually share a source from the web.
+Milan Stoic Thanks vey much! So, what would you suggest to be the cheapest way to replace it? Apple asked me almost $500 to replace it, and the screen itself costs almost $400 (in the United States.) I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions! Take care.
So if the screen has a big black black spot with a crack in the middle (A pretty small one, overall size about that of a pencil eraser) with pixels that are black/rainbow all around it would this fix it? Great video.
Steven: edit. The lcd seems to work cause it changes colors but the backlight isn’t working. Online says WLED might have blown but I don’t think that’s what it is
Milan, thank you for the great video! I am wanting to replace the LVDS cable only and am wondering if this can be done without totally removing the screen. I am thinking that I can at least leave the two cables on the bottom of the screen connected but I am not sure. I also can't find online the connection point on the screen for the LVDS cable. And obviously I am going to have to remove at least one hinge from the main computer to remove the old, broken cable. I turn 66 tomorrow and am getting too old for surprises! I have bought a palette knife and your special tape so I'm good to go on the bezel. Thanks for your time and for the fantastic video!
+Skeeter Jo Milan, I did find a thread that tells how to replace the cable without removing the screen. I'm hoping that this will work as I really don't want to mess with screen removal! Thoughts? Thanks!
good job. where do you suggest getting the replacement screen from. I see it sold on several outlets online. I only need a screen for this one job. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.
Hello Thanks for the guide. My concern is where I can find a genuine A1466 screen at the best price because I searched for the screen here and there and now I'm damn confused. plz, reply...........
Any screen you find that says it's for your model should be compatible and fully functional unless they send a defective one. I haven't see a single one that was "fake" or bad colours and stuff. On the other hand, they are stupid expensive now and a reason I don't do repairs any more. Last time I looked for just the LCD was about $300ish. Just for the LCD. You can find a functional assembly for about that money or a bit more.
@@milanstojic3295Thank you for the reply. Hi Milan. Great work and thanks for charing this. Could you please provide more information about the painting knifes you use for this job and the LCD exchange on the A1398? Thanks in advance
If you are looking to swap the whole assembly from one to another, it will work, you will get the picture, but camera/wifi antenna cable might not be compatible. Depending on the length of the wifi cable and type of camera connector (this changes with years of production). If you want to take the LCD out from one assembly and put it into another one I can almost guarantee that you will break at least one or both and have to pay to fix them afterwards.
You`ll have to look for that stuff online. eBay, Amazon...there is no one link for this stuff. I put the effort in to give people free DIY to save money. You put in the effort to find what you need to do it, or take it to a shop.
HELP!!!!!!!!! probably i wasnt so careful when i try this screen replecement and now look like my backlight isnt working, someone know how to fix this??
Hi! Made everything like in this video. On power up there's no backlight and nothing is on the screen, although computer loads successfully and external monitor works. Any particular thing to check (cable connection etc)?
@@nawisiwans6899 Although it was 4 years ago, I still remember I put the small connector at the bottom of the screen vice versa, it was the cause of the no back light. Hope that helps!
Great video! About to try this with the first time with my wife's Macbook Air (2010). From the videos I've seen on this repair, your video was the most educational and anyone can tell you're experienced at doing this. Will post my results here, but I have a few questions. At 15:22 in the video, you had used a spray thing on the white part of the screen. What was that for?
Thanks. Glad it was helpful. The spray is actually a compressor. Just air, nothing else. If you don't have a compressor you can buy one can of compressed air from staples or Walmart or something. That is to blow out the dust from the sheets under the screen or any other glass pieces left there.
Milan Stojic Ah thanks. Wife just updated me and I am cancelling the project. $170 is expensive to repair a 2010 laptop that my wife hardly uses. Going to buy a Mini-Display to HDMI dongle and see if it will run on my HDTV.
Maybe at one point these screens will be cheaper. I fix them for more than that after all the costs. A lot of people find it better to pay for someone to do it and avoid damaging it themselves. Most of people trying this repair actually do damage it and it costs them more to fix what they messed up :-)
Hi , i am from New Zealand and i have given my macbook air to get its screem repaired but i am wondering that is it possible for the guy who is repairing my macbook to get any of the original part from it and put cheap part. If yes then how to find it out ? Thanks in advance

thank you so much for this video.i just changed my macbook air screen just wanted to ask you do i need use 5mm tape at back of screen as well to hold the screen
My Macbook Air has dead pixels on the screen and the dead spot is getting larger and larger as the days go on. Would this be a screen replacement or do I need to replace the whole screen assembly?
Adam Arocho dead pixels are on the LCD so if you have dead pixels than LCD replacement will resolve that. A lot of times people mix an actual crack with dead pixels, pixels don't spread that easily and fast but crack does. Also some people experience white spots which are not dead pixels which are under the LCD on the inner layers
I was doing this and I let go of my screen during the heat gun pulling out process and it snapped back and cut off a piece of my finger, I was in the ER for about 5 hours. Its still not fixed...
Zdravo. Pozdrav Milane.
As a precaution, you can. It's always better to have no power in the laptop when doing this, although I rarely do that, since I have a specific way of pushing the LVDS cable back in and it can never short anything out. Backlight cable won't short anything however you push it back in, so for an inexperienced person doing this at the beginning, yes, I would recommend you do so.

Hi, what kind of liquid do you use on shovel before you start ti disassemble the screen?
I use double sided red tape you can buy on eBay. I have no idea which brand it is or how it is called but you can look up 10mm and 5mm tape for iPad on eBay and you will see a bunch. The red (red is just the cover, actual tape is clear) one is what I buy
great video! how will you know if the screen needs replacement or just a fix on the wires connecting the lcd. Mine goes okay when I flip and adjust my screen, but it goes back flickering when flipped again. Is it the LCD or just a minor repair. My local technician here suggest to replace the LCD but i dont trust him. please let me know
Motherboards no, LCD only yes. Display assembly from a1369 will work only on early a1466 (late 2012 and mid 2013). You have to check the length of antenna cable and see if it will reach.
I bought a ‘14 MacBook Air and it needs a screen replacement or external equipment. How can I fix the external equipment and how much do the parts cost?
If it need a new screen, you can follow this video to replace the screen, or find a specialized shop to take care of it for you, if its too difficult. Not sure what you mean by external equipment.
I would suggest asking that guy to explain what he meant by that. Broken screen that needs to be replaced is one thing, but external equipment has nothing to do with your screen. Unless he has no idea what he is talking about and wanted to sound "smart", as dumb tech usually do.
First off, I congratulate you on an excellent video. My only question, is the double sided tape the foam type or the clear double sided tape? I am have difficulty finding any double sided tape. If I hadn't already purchased the screen I would have sent to you for replacement. Congratulations once again and keep the good work.
I don't use the foam double sided for airs. It would make the bezel stick out to much. For retina models I will have to start doing that. Tape that I use I buy online. It's 3m core 4000 series I think. Also an alternative tape u can buy off of www.rossmanngroup.com Run a search on the website for the tape and you'll find it. Take the 5mm and 10mm if they still have. For screen u need 5 for bezel 10 or 12 but even 2 strips of 5mm will do on the sides.
Mister, my display is broken, but the mac still turns on, how can i use with a thunderbol-hdmi ? i mean how can i send image to my external monitor ? Thanks
Do you know what panels cross reference to the LSN133BT01-A02? Have a A1466 here that needs a panel, pretty tricky of them to put tape on inverter cable... Wish I had seen your video first, used a credit card to pull panel and skuffed up their diffuser screen, guess they will see the marks after the repair, unless that diffuser is available as well somewhere...
Craig Gerlach All Air's from 2010 have the same LCD so any will work. They r all compatible and there is no "fake" screen. If it's for a 2010 13" air and later, it will work. Good luck in finding a clean set of sheets
Then didn't put on LVDS cable and now trying to fight putting that on with all the room they gave us to work in.. I got the metal strip under there without damage, it only became exponentially harder to complete this...
How do I check the backlight issue with board or screen? While i am connected with the external monitor its works good. Would that mean issue with board?
check with external light in the screen, its posible look the logo apple in the screen, this problem is for not disconect the battery, check this video ruclips.net/video/u1ZGhd2AaJE/видео.html (more easy is remplace fuse inside the brocken fuse), sorry my english is very bad
Excellent video. What width of adhesive are you using? Is that 15mm and 5mm or? And wa it the 5mm you used for the back lcd bracket you reapplied? Thank you!
For the bezel i use 12mm tape, if i have it, or 2 strips of 5mm tape on inside and outside border. For the bracket i use 5mm tape, and the type is Core series 4000 3M tape. The same type is for the 12mm as well.
Ok, so apparently I touch whatever it is that you clearly said not to. I'm not sure what it was exactly, but now my back light isn't working. How do I fix this issue?
Check the cable that plugs in to the small board on the new screen. The small twisted inside out cable that's kind of hard to maneuver with. I believe you might have flipped it upside down. The golden pins have to go toward the board
+Nicole Grafton than you either have a bad LCD or you killed the backlight circuit on the board. I can help you with both but not without seeing the laptop.
+Nicole Grafton ok that's great. I still can't help you without seeing the computer. Like I said you most likely killed the backlight circuit and if that's the case you really need to leave it alone and seek professional help and have someone who knows how to fix it look at it. I would look up a local repair place that specializes in logic board work if you don't want to mail it out.
Thanks for this awesome video - no trouble replacing the screen though once installed the darn computer will not turn on - as far as I can see I have re-seated the cables on the screen properly. Do you have any ideas? Your assistance would be appreciated.

Hello, thanks for the video. I have cracked screen and now I can see liquid crystal spill on the screen. Is it still repairable? How much do you charge?

Really good instructions! Helped a lot when i changed my Macbooks screen :)
Thank you for share this video. Question, where can I buy the LCD panel? I only find the complete assembly.

Thank you so much for the tutorial im typing this comment from my now fixed MacBook air :)
dude i'm typing this on my fix screen as well ;) but my brightness is not changing at all, any idea?
Thanks.
@@Apple.Repair I don't really know im not that tech savy maybe the room was to bright for the lights to activate that's what happened when i was testing if my keyboard worked the room was to bright so the lights wouldn't come on. Thats the only idea I have besides retrying putting the backlight connector in.
LIVINGLIKELOLA alright dude thanks I’ll maybe plug out and in the backlight ribbon.

Replace my 2017 macbook lcd
hi. the tech at my office...had a screen working... backlight worked...everything worked. he took out the screen as you explained. put the new one and the screen works but not the backlight now.... what could have caused this?
Improper handling. Have him check if he plugged in the backlight cable properly or upside down
Thank you for your guide
what temperature do you set your heat-gun?
I'm always afraid of setting it too hot and damaging something. But if I set it too low, the glue doesn't melt and I have to use more strenght to take-off the screen (or battery or whatever I'm trying to unstick)
mac air , what size screw driver do i use for the two tiny screws that hold the connectors on
the 13" mac air, i have tried several different sizes and have not been able to remove them
don't want to strip them
If you are referring to 2 screws that hold the controller board for the LCD that's a Philips Snead screw. If you can't remove them, and tried, you probably stripped them already. If that's the case just use a bigger Phillips and press harder. If they don't come out you will have to rip them out with a flathead
will a replacement retina display fit the 2017 macbook air?
So will a 2015 screen fit on my 2012 A1466?

Hi Milan, Thanks for the video. Do you know if I can replace an original screen mounted on an A1466 with an original screen mounted on an A1237? Thanks for eventually share a source from the web.
You can't. They r not compatible
If I replace the lcd and I hear Mac make a sound and I get no picture what is the most likely cause.
Thank you.
hi there I've scratched the diffuser will the laptop now show these scratches on the screen?
Yes
Instead of the heat blower can I use acetone nail polish remover?
Hello
Thanks for the guide.

Wasique Ahmad could you share the seller’s link?
Hi Milan.
Great work and thanks for charing this. Could you please provide more information about the painting knifes you use for this job and the LCD exchange on the A1398?
Thanks in advance
I followed your first video to do my first macbook air lcd replacement. Now I will follow this for my second! Thanks again great video.
What kind of tape did you use in the Bezel
Would it be possible to put the screen from an A1369 into an A1466?
If you are looking to swap the whole assembly from one to another, it will work, you will get the picture, but camera/wifi antenna cable might not be compatible. Depending on the length of the wifi cable and type of camera connector (this changes with years of production).
If you want to take the LCD out from one assembly and put it into another one I can almost guarantee that you will break at least one or both and have to pay to fix them afterwards.
Hello Milan Stojic, Thanks for your videos. Could please share the link to purchase that tool, tape nd that solution. Thanks
Same to me... No back-light

It's possible to take the back panel to in order to access the apple logo?
yeah, although i would not recommend it to you. you will break that ever you take out if you have never done it

Can i use a hairdryer instead of a heat gun?
did u ever fix urs?
by ur self im asking
Thanks so much for this video, it was very helpful.
Zdravo. Pozdrav Milane.
Is it necessary to take off battery before performing such a repair procedure to avoid possibility of a shortage?
As a precaution, you can. It's always better to have no power in the laptop when doing this, although I rarely do that, since I have a specific way of pushing the LVDS cable back in and it can never short anything out. Backlight cable won't short anything however you push it back in, so for an inexperienced person doing this at the beginning, yes, I would recommend you do so.
Hi, what kind of liquid do you use on shovel before you start ti disassemble the screen?
I believe I said in the video that it is alcohol. I actually rarely use it and it is not needed but can make the work easier
Please, tell me what type of adhesive tape for adhering the screen to select? thank
Can we put a1466 display in a1369 model ?? Or are their motherboards interchangable ?? Plz reply thanks
The guy from the repair said external equipment. I just looked confused, I really don’t know 🤷🏾♀️ to be honest
Also an alternative tape u can buy off of www.rossmanngroup.com
Run a search on the website for the tape and you'll find it. Take the 5mm and 10mm if they still have. For screen u need 5 for bezel 10 or 12 but even 2 strips of 5mm will do on the sides.
Can i use hair dryer for heating? thank you

Thanks. Vs having dead panel think they will have to suffer.
I had it backwards at first, but then I flipped over when the pins were facing correctly. Still no luck.
+Nicole Grafton than you either have a bad LCD or you killed the backlight circuit on the board. I can help you with both but not without seeing the laptop.
+Milan Stojic the LCD works. I can see the logos just no back light.
