      Suggestion to simplify things: use either Clefable or Reuniclus with Magic Guard ability and skill swap. This ability prevents any recoil damage, so you don’t have to use flame body/lighting rod/ghost type Pokémon. And since you can skill swap it onto the target, you’re free to swap into your false swiper
      If you’re specifically dealing with Memento, then I personally prefer Gallade with False Swipe, Hypnosis, Imprison, and Memento
      For explosions, I use Golduck with Damp and Skill Swap. It also has Soak,Yawn/Hypnosis, and Taunt

      @@CT-TooHevy Sorry I didn’t see this reply until now! Yeah, actually I wrote out some super specific builds (you don’t need to be as prepared, I just wanted to cover absolutely every scenario I could think of for a pokemon to self-KO). As long as you save before a fight you can just go bare minimum.
      Here are my builds:
      **Breloom**
      Ability: Technician
      Item: Silk Scarf; Persim/Lum berry if using Fling
      Nature: Adamant
      EVs: HP + Attack
      Moves: False Swipe
      Spore
      Fling
      Sunny Day if using Harvest strats
      (Note: Breloom can relearn Spore now! No need to catch Shroomish and evolve past level 40)
      Usage: Breloom is my go-to false swiper because it’s fast, has high base attack + technician ability, and has 100% sleep with spore. When paired with Golduck, you rarely need anything else.
      If the target pokemon gets confused, such as after using a move like Thrash, you can cure it by flinging your held berry so it won’t self-KO in confusion.
      **Golduck**
      Ability: Damp
      Item: Wide Lens if using Hypnosis; Ability Shield if catching Koffing
      Nature: Timid or Bold
      EVs: HP + Speed
      Moves: Skill Swap
      Soak
      Taunt
      Hypnosis/Yawn
      (Rain Dance & Simple Beam can also be useful)
      Usage: Lead with Golduck when encountering any ghost and/or grass Pokémon to use Soak, which lets Breloom do its magic. Soak has the added benefit of making Curse benign when used by Ghost pokemon. It also can make False Swipe hit Rock/Steel Pokémon harder.
      Lead with Golduck when encountering any explosive Pokémon. Skill Swap Damp so you can safely swap to your false swiper. If the Pokémon has explosive moves and Memento, use Taunt first, then skill swap, then switch to Gallade.
      **Gallade**
      Ability: Any
      Item: Wide Lens if using Hypnosis
      Nature: Adamant
      EVs: HP + Attack
      Moves: False Swipe
      Thunder Wave / Hypnosis
      Imprison
      Memento
      Usage: Gallade also has great attack so it’s a solid false swiper but Hypnosis’s low accuracy puts it below Breloom. However, it’s the ideal choice when dealing with Memento users. If the Pokémon can also explode, then lead with Golduck, use Taunt, Skill Swap Damp, swap to Gallade, and then use Imprison.
      **Reuniclus / Clefable**
      Ability: Magic Guard
      Item: Wide Lens if using Sing; Ring Target if using Trick
      Nature: Timid or Bold
      EVs: HP + Speed
      Moves: Skill Swap
      Trick
      Thunder Wave
      Sing (Clefairy-line only)
      Usage: You’ll primarily only use it for its ability: Magic Guard prevents any and all additional damage that moves, abilities, weather, status, or items can cause for the user. So if you skill swap Magic Guard to a Pokémon with recoil moves, it will no longer receive recoil damage and self-KO when you use False Swipe.
      Trick + Ring Target is another way to allow Ghost Pokémon to get hit by False Swipe or Grass Pokémon to get hit by Spore.
      **Trevenant / Exeggutor**
      Ability: Harvest
      Item: Leppa berry
      Nature: Timid or Bold
      EVs: HP + Speed
      Moves: Skill Swap
      Trick
      Sunny Day
      Ally Switch (Trev only) / Sleep Powder (Exegg only)
      Usage: PP management was a much bigger issue in previous generations because you couldn’t leave the battle and try again if the target pokemon was about to use Struggle. For Gen 9 it’s mostly useful for Pokémon with extremely low catch rates like legendaries and Beldum.
      Skill Swap Harvest onto the target and use Trick to give it a Leppa berry. Once the target runs out of PP, the berry will restore 10 PP to the move. With Harvest there’s a 50% chance that the berry will be recycled to use again which becomes 100% in harsh sunlight.
      **Smeargle**
      Tera: Ghost
      Ability: Technician
      Item: Silk Scarf
      Nature: Adamant
      EVs: HP + Attack
      Moves: False Swipe
      Spore
      Imprison
      Explosion
      Usage: Smeargle’s attack stat is garbage, so it works best in very niche cases when a specific move-set is necessary. This build is specifically for Minior since you can’t skill swap Shields Down. Tera Ghost into Imprison, then False Swipe until the core is revealed. Then you can use Spore. Just watch out for your health if it spams Shell Smash since Smeargle is not a tanky boi. Ghost tera is to prevent Double-Edge recoil.
      Note: If you want to sketch moves easily, you can use a wild Smeargle. The wild Smeargle will sketch the move you use, then you can swap to your own Smeargle and use Sketch. Run away, use the move relearner to learn Sketch again, then fight the same wild Smeargle.
      To sketch Spore, give your Smeargle Safety Goggles to avoid being put to sleep.
      Explosion needs Damp to be active for Sketch to work, as you can’t sketch a fainted Pokémon. If you enter a double-battle (I used the coach battle with Rhyme), lead with Golduck and a Pokémon with Explosion. Skill Swap Damp onto the explosive Pokémon, then swap Golduck for your Smeargle. You can sketch Explosion after it’s used and says it failed.
      BONUS ADDITION:
      If you are looking for a very low-investment way to completely neutralize any and all status effect moves (memento, perish song, curse, etc.) then you can use the following:
      **Golurk**
      Ability: Klutz
      Item: Assault Vest
      Nature: Any
      EVs: HP + Speed
      Moves: Trick
      Normally you can’t use any status moves while holding an Assault Vest, but because of the ability Klutz you can ignore the effect and give it to the target pokemon. Then the target can’t use any status moves at all.
      Unfortunately Golurk learns literally no other moves that are beneficial for catching. But it’s naturally immune to normal & electric moves if you need something to block recoil in a pinch.

  • @acedragon543
    @acedragon543 Год назад +141

    It looks like you realized that Soak doesnt stop explosion, and instead it's the ability damp. That doen't mean you shouldn't have Soak as well. Soak turns a pokemon into a pure Water type which is VERY helpful for one specific type while shiny hunting...Ghost types. If you use Soak on a Ghost type then you will be able to False Swipe it! I suggest Golduck for this. It can learn Soak AND has the Damp ability so two birds with one stone

    • @caiusdrakegaming8087
      @caiusdrakegaming8087 Год назад +8

      Bellibolt gets both too, and Thunder Wave. Para might not be as good as sleep for boosting catch rates but it can be consistent

    • @acedragon543
      @acedragon543 Год назад +1

      @@caiusdrakegaming8087 True. Tbh I have been using Golduck for that roll for so long I hadn't thought to even consider a new mon as replacing it lol but to each their own. I figure neither Golduck or Bellibolt can learn False Swipe so if I have to switch anyways then it doesn't really matter as long as my false swiping mon can status. Plus with Bellibolt, Damp is its HA and soak is an egg move. Not a huge deal but it makes Golduck more accessible. Still a great call out tho!

    I really enjoy catching with Psyduck and Kingambit! Psyduck has Damp, Skill Swap and Soak. Once Skill Swap is used, the Pokémon can't self destruct ever, and Soak will make it be able to get Thunder Waved by Kingambit once you switch it in. Psyduck can also learn Screech to make False Swipe hit harder.
    Kingambit knows False Swipe, Thunder Wave, Rain Dance, and Block. It's a niche problem, but sometimes you encounter Pokémon in weather that hurts them, and Teleport is occasionally used by Pokémon like Ralts I think. My Kingambit also has a Ghost Tera to account for recoil. It doesn't remove all recoil damage, but most of them are normal types at least.
    Pokémon that have Memento and Perish Song still aren't countered, but in those cases I pull out Flutter Mane which can learn both of them and Imprison!
    These three have made it really easy for me to catch Pokémon, but I'm glad you mentioned the Trevenant Harvest strategy! I used that one to hunt the Regis in Sword, to which some of them would eventually have fainted if that strategy wasn't used

    6:45 I hate to be that person, but I don't think Soak prevents explosions. It changes the target's type to pure Water if it succeeds instead. You're thinking of Damp, an ability. If you want a Damp mon you're looking for Quagsire (which can be bred down from the in-game trade without DLC) and Golduck from base game (or Bellibolt if you want HA, which I DID NOT KNOW before looking it up!), or the Poliwag line from Kitakami (either form works).
    The IDEAL mon would be Parasect, due to having the impossibly amazing role compression of Spore, False Swipe, AND Damp, but sadly the only game on Switch it has an ability in that it exists in is BDSP (though it exists in PLA, abilities have no effect, with only some species having ability-like effects built in, namely Regigigas and Cherrim). And assuming this goes like SwSh did, we probably won't see Parasect as the Amazing Role Compression, but it's not like using Breloom is a BAD idea by any means!

    • @CybernetCatgirl
      @CybernetCatgirl Год назад +3

      Another note before I continue: Soak is not, in fact, a bad move to have on a False Swipe mon. By placing Soak on a mon, you do turn them into a pure Water type, thereby enabling you to hit them with False Swipe!

    Just in case anyone plans on recreating the Breloom build, remember that Breloom can't learn Spore, only Shroomish can. You'll have to level the Shroomish to 40 before you evolve, & make sure you never have it unlearn the move, cause it won't be able to get it back if you do

    • @exxy9931
      @exxy9931 10 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure how far back it goes (pretty sure Breloom has been able to relearn Spore since USUM but regardless, I'm referring strictly to SV in this post) but you actually CAN evolve Shroomish as soon as it's available and go into "Remember Moves" in SV to learn Spore without having to wait.

    • @milkdrinker7
      @milkdrinker7 10 месяцев назад +1

      a lesser known breeding mechanic is that if both parents are the same species (shroomish) and know a move that is learned from levelup (spore), the offspring will be hatched with the move already known and they'll always be able to remember it. That's how you can breed for shinies and not have to worry about remembering to overlevel the shroomish to 40 before evolving. evolve away at lvl 23 or whenever.

    I use these:
    Gallade for False Swipe
    Amoongus for Spore
    Golduck with Damp for Soak, Taunt, and Skill Swap
    And usually that does the trick.
    But I also saw someone use:
    A Smeargle with Spore, Soak, Taunt, and False Swipe, and it was Ghost Tera to avoid a lot of the normal type moves that cause recoil.

    Gholdengo: Blocks Double Edge and most icky status moves. Reflect, Recover, and Thunder wave. A fast Let's Go pokemon, even over water.
    Grimmsnarl: Prankster is always good.
    Golduck: Taunt, Disable, Soak, Yawn, and Damp with an ability shield will stop all the mementos and exploders, even Neutralizing Gas Koffing.

    You should use a golduck with cloud nine (for pokemon that could potentially die to sandstorm) and use it with skill swap (to prevent insomina if need be), soak, and taunt
    Also a no guard pokemon would be a great help for pokemon with moves like high jump kick and jump kick (as of commenting this the only option for no guard is lycanroc mightnight form with its hidden ability)

    Have you considered magic guard skill swap? That might help with recoil move options as mons with magic guard do not take recoil damage from their own moves. I would recommend Clefable for this. Although, I can see speed being an issue if the opponent outspeeds and then uses the recoil move. Learns encore and thunder wave as well. Apologies if this was already suggested or if this is not needed.
    EDIT: Note, does not stop explosion, curse, and similar moves that would KO itself.

    • @testerwulf3357
      @testerwulf3357 Год назад

      That’s a great solution for recoil moves! To make it efficient do the skill swap first turn, they won’t die that way, then swap in your false swipe pokemon for catching :]

  • @kurtcobane1762

    why not use Jolteon in place of Raichu, has volt absorb thunder wave and false swipe also ogerpon (well spring) has both water absorb and false swipe which can cancel out wave crash

    Breloom works a lot better with toxic orb poison heal for catching. It prevents the other pokémon from causing status and heals for sustain in long battles. Some people like to run substitute instead of swords dance as well. OH! And give chandeure curse as well, since ghost types can K.O. themselves with it.
    Also sorry if any of this is literally not possible or needed I haven’t played any of SV 😂 I’m just giving pokemmo knowledge lmao glgl
