Thanks I want to express my deepest gratitude for all these years that Linden Lab has brought happiness into my life. Thanks to Second Life, I have had the chance to meet thousands of people and make truly great friends. These have been years of hard work, and for me, Second Life has been a sanctuary, a place where one can come to relax, create, and enjoy. To everyone who works tirelessly to make this wonderful world possible, my sincerest thanks. Thank you for creating such a special space for all of us.♥ Att Fahrah Rajesh
Absolutely amazing town hall, Philip Rosedale's vision is honestly inspiring. It really feels like we got fresh yet familiar wind blowing through the virtual trees!
To be able to see this LEGEND litteraly the father of all us avatars, come back, Oh la la 🥺🥺🥺 Welcome back and thank you for recording this important roundtable whoever did !
As someone who's grown with SL for over 18 years, I remember well those early days and I am looking forward to seeing what comes of Phillip returning! This amazing platform that came out of his vision has given me so much in so many ways and I am ever grateful for that!
For the first time in so many years i am excited for Second Life's future. I joined back in 2008 and i have been unable to pry myself away. It has become a second home to just relax and talk to friends. Here's hoping many good changes will come *cough* inventory management *cough* and that SL's popularity will go up again.
Welcome back Philip!!! Had to give up my region on Mainland last year. Could not justify paying for it. Being that there is so much abandoned mainland, why not auction it off at a much lower price. Better to get something for the land versus getting nothing for it.
There seemed to be an over emphasis on "Feelings" and pleasing everyone, but as we know in rl not everyone's feelings are spared nor will everyone be happy. life is hard 1st or 2nd, better to do what's right for the majority and leave it up to the individual to resist being triggered, trigger easily try Sim City or some other safe space. SL has had a adult theme since I got here 15 years ago and in that time I have seen unbelievable things I did not like but I didn't run away crying and freaking out, no I just TP'ed away and moved on, that's part of being an adult isn't it?
Back when I joined SL in 2006 I tried to "onboard" every friend & family member I had, because I was in love with SL, I got maybe ten people to sign up and try it out, some of them tried it for a few weeks but eventually they all quit. They just didn't see or feel the magic that I did. So IMO it's not for lack of trying that die-hard second lifers can't help grow the user base. I eventually came to the conclusion that SL is for highly technical people with above average intelligence and unfortunately that's a minority market.
sailing is one of the few things left other than content creation that i do on SL anymore. everything else just kinda fizzled out (combat systems, and SLMC) tried taking my South African friend on a sailing trip around the Blake sea a couple years ago and he just kept crashing because of sim crossings. i do hope that gets improved in the coming years. additionally i think the puppetry tech will be huge in paving the way for "non-verbal communication" when that gets expanded on and added. very glad to see Philip back at LL and i feel like he's going to be instrumental in making this platform that i practically grew up with much better for everyone. also super stoked for Lua coming to SL. i feel like its going to be way easier to get started with scripting via Lua. used to toy around with it in Gmod back in the day.
Adult themed content is now allowed on Twitch, for real life people. There is a disclaimer about the content then you can click to go ahead and see the content by that Twitch user. So I think SL should be able to be streamed on that platform.
Love SL. But Firestorm is terrible now. Interesting the Lab is giving it a nod. I've used it since inception but looking elsewhere until it's fixed. 15 years in SL and I've no friends in world. It's incredibly time consuming to develop real relationships inworld. Welcome back. I'm 71 with business in SL since 2009.
Since both Autistic users and nonverbal communication have come up, as an Autistic person I’d like to point out that we don’t all want to use voice chat, let alone facial expressions since those are some of the main reasons we’ve been pushed out of society.
19:26 made me laugh a lot. I have met very generous friends on this platform. For me it was definitely a good training playground for interacting with others irl. I have been a part of communities on here that are still going but are a lot smaller now. For me performance has and always will be the biggest bug bear. They really need to look at changing the engine with the ability for backwards compatibility it’s a big ask but I don’t think it’s impossible. Always happy to see SL develop but as stated by some others with the performance constraints of the platform the only thing that works is intimate pose role play unfortunately
Just to through this out there... Maybe take a look at what the development team at Star Citizen is doing with Server Meshing... it's groundbreaking work...
VR headsets are too expensive.. the adoption rate is extremely low.. Someone would have to make a rather affordable headset.. like around 100 to 150 dollars in order for it to become more adapted.. but instead of finding a way to make more affordable decent VR, companies insist on making rather expensive VR headsets.. Maybe one day that'll change..
Philip Rosedale returns as CTO to help build the future of Second Life! second.life/news102924
I'm so glad there's a recording of the event and that Philip is back 🥰🥰.

So beautiful the story you told about the person with physical problems, respect. You give lots of hope, thank you, Imbolc Sirbu
Welcome back Philip!

Happy to see Strawberry Linden in the crowd.
Like the good old days! Welcome back, Phillip!
welcome back
worlds need leaders. thank you Philip. lead on.
Good to see you back Philip! Maybe wander over to BlueSky as a number of us moved there after the blue bird died.
I was late. Welcome back, and you are spot on. I always remind myself that you don't know who and what the individual's life is behind the pixels.
Don't forget to join Philip's "Friends with Philip" group inworld: my.secondlife.com/groups/dac5b244-b79f-810e-a03b-fb6ddffd287a
The question @ 30:53 and Philips response also got me teary.
Welcome back!

I agree, copmbat seems to have taken a nose dive, sailing still has iffy crossings
Sorry I missed it I need to get back to second life myself its been 7 years since I was last on.
I'm Beragon Betts in SL. This was super interesting!
Some good ideas, I particularly like better ways of animating, moving the avatar!
love video

Now bring back Cory Ondrejka as Director of Internal Design.
Why did I try to cam in the crowd?
C# , not Lua wow really?! Lua? Kids language is what that is. Roblox/WoW/Eso , come on, go C#

SL doesn't need VR. That's what Sansar was for. VR I don't think is one of the things most are thinking of to improve SL.
@@jetta.silence6356SL def doesn’t need VR, it would be a nice bonus but doesn’t need it at all
The first thing is SL should migrate from old and outdated OpenGL to Vulkan
YES! Why are we still using OpenGL? Vulkan runs far better in my experience.
Most likely that is the idea in the future.
