    • @alexchege5199
      @alexchege5199 4 года назад +17

@@MrMrutube1987 My personal take on this topic is that self sabotage is inherently intrinsic. Typing that out makes it sound obvious but as the OP stated, we often times perceive external expectations as the initiating sequence of our inevitable downfall. This formula is skewed because the beginning is always us(you). Everything you experience is through your lens and nobody else's. External influence is there but at the end of the day, you are the ONLY experience of your life. Self sabotage is the reluctance to accept responsibility of such a daunting concept. Success is infinitely more frightening and infinitely more foreign of a environment than failure. The current human psyche prioritizes comfortability over anything else and unfortunately alot of us are simply more comfortable in failure than success. Accepting responsibility over ones life is accepting a life of uncomfortableness, and this journey always starts from within.

That's a good point. One which suggests that 'self-sabotage' does not always lead to general 'failure' or lack of success. I can't speak for Russell Brand, but as someone who studies these dynamics (e.g. motivation and procrastination) but has stopped using the term 'self-sabotage, I can say that quite often people achieve what appears to be outward objective success but feel internally, subjectively like they've failed. Take the photo shoot example, while he was seen as successful by the world the next day, the next day he felt bad, felt he'd blown it, regardless of how much money he had or what the next gig was. Failure, like success, is a feeling as much as an external attainment. Also, one can feel unworthy of one's success, and in fact, if one feels unworthy as a person, one can feel MORE unworthy of fanfare, success, admiration--it all feels false, a reflection of something one is not (or at least feels they are not) and so create more distress. I would offer a different interpretation of the photo shoot. Perhaps he is, instead, testing these people, the magazine, etc. Will they value him even if he doesn't do this thing? Will they value and stick with him--see him as worthy--enough to change the schedule for him? If we feel we are unworthy in others' eyes we are likely to try to test that through our actions to see if these people's caring can be trusted, by testing the relationships of those around us. The aim, in my view, is not sabotage, but that is easily the result when we put our achievements in jeopardy repeatedly. Act this way enough times, and even a star will be rejected--thus affirming the fear that one was not worthy or lovable. There is a lot of wisdom in this short video, great insight into human motivation that is corroborated by contemporary psychological research.

I feel like that "thing" that Russell talks about that causes many of us to self-sabotage is actually *ego.* I've been reflecting a lot and trying to be more aware and awake, and I've started to see how much my ego influences me to make the dumbest and most petty of decisions toward my loved ones, my friends, strangers and most importantly myself.
Ego is like this nebulous, amorphous ever-changing cloud that can disguise itself in so many different masks. Sometimes that mask is aggression and anger, and sometimes that mask is understated arrogance disguised as "understanding" and white little lies. Ego is insidious, but the more I've been committed to *seeing* it, as Russell so emphasizes, the easier it is to resist and make better decisions because I'm understanding the root cause of why my ego influences me to make certain decisions.

Healthcare costs are ever increasing along with student debt and home ownership is now classified as everyone with a mortgage. Even though we all know another 2008 is coming, if it hasnt started already over the last 2 week market slump, meaning there will eventually be mass job loss again, pay cuts and thus foreclosures. Foreclosures that the banks have lobbied to be covered by taxpayers. Meaning FHA loans, the most common home loans, the banks get paid in full whether it forecloses or not. Yes, it HAS been traumatic for so many, and I would not minimize your suffering; and I swear to you our children have the world at their feet, we will guarantee it be so; I only say to you to PUT IT BEHIND (*it being the despair; there’s a lot that’s been hid; we must learn from what has happened but we are NOT to wear it like a cross `Step down from the cross, we could use the wood! #LOL) If we are too bound up, full of an idea or ideas- we leave no room for something to come in; we have to let some ideas go to make room for new ones. This is what has to happen for those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome; they are so full of hate for him that they cannot remember where is their love for their country and fellow man…it is heartbreaking to watch the vitriol and to feel the hatred in their hearts, but we have to brush that aside and realize they are trapped in their illusion; we can only reach our hand to pull them out; it is their task to grasp it. We must decide to make a sufficient cut to certain ideals of the past at this time; wasn’t that the transversal when we dissected a frog? Slice the underbelly open wide; have the hardiest peer inside & all decide on the path of least resistance sounds mighty wide to me; out we go, off we go to what’s next to know. We’re getting into the intensity section of understanding; look how far we’ve come with microscopes…analyzing everything around us. What we’re forgetting to analyze is that most important thing-ourselves, Yet we feel qualified to sit and pass judgement upon others around us, as if we were the authority on (name the “offense”) Examine ourselves for weakness; support our Brothers and Sisters in their own Paths To Ascension; this should be a given in our geometry proof. Right now, we have the most amazing opportunity; it is an absolute glorious time to be alive, and we are blessed to be both cognizant and capable of accomplishing whatever is required of us. Let us all, at the very least, reach for competency. For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is in every way perfect. 93s

@indigosigh You're right. Everything was and more importantly is myself. I was rather incomplete in my first comment. An event in my life caused me to start smoking cannabis from a young age. It stayed with me and shaped my life for many years. I lost everything that was myself over the years. Sometimes I appeared as if like a spectre in a mist, or a shadow in light, but then I faded away to be replaced by the driving force of addiction. I never nearly lost everything.. More like I was never present for nearly everything. This event caused many instances of self sabotage over the years. My subconscious would deliberately drive me to behave in a way that was destructive to any state of prosperity.
I have ruined many good things in my life because of this pattern of behaviour. I have finally stopped the substance abuse. I will never go back to it, but much has been paid in terms of life lost already. I lost myself. I was trapped in myself. I was driven by impulse and addiction. It nearly made me lose touch with myself completely. Lose touch with feelings, emotions, and most importantly love. To point of nearly losing everything..

Xx xX relatable. I’ve had real good times and some crappy times during this pandemic. Insomnia check seeking external validation check. Definitely re-listen to this I will be. I’m finally dating again after like a 20 year hiatus maybe 15, something like that. And I keep reminding myself of one thing: I don’t want to be with anybody who doesn’t wanna be with me. And I just wanna date around to find I don’t know the one. Although I don’t really believe in the one but it’s the best way to put it. Takes a lot of the pressure off. Just. I mean you could be right; he could be dead. Or if not he ain’t worth it. You got to love yourself first.

Agreed, but i also think it's important for folks to remember that if they fuck up,
& make a bad decision, it's not the end of the world, striving for perfection is an ideal, but we learn from our mistakes along the journey.
Sometimes, when things go wrong, particularly in recovery, we reach for something to make us feel better, that cloaks us in security, or we get overwhelmed by having to make amends for our previous behaviour,
we need to remember that we can stumble & recorrect, & it's ok,
far better to do that than set yourself up to fail & go down the same old self destructive path because going into the unknown realm of recovery is scary.
So whilst failure/bad choices is often seen as a negative, it doesn't define you - where there is life - there is hope.

I watched this and then got in the shower. As I got in to the shower I was self conscious of my belly. (I’ve gained 8 lbs in the last couple months). I thought, “If Kevin (my husband) comes in here, I'm going to cover my belly up and tell him not to look at me.” Which is what I've been doing lately. Putting myself down with the comments I make about myself bc I've been feeling insecure. So then I thought, “Well, my body has a Consciousness of its own. Maybe it doesn't feel like I do (emotions) but it definitely will react cellular to what I think. The cells will automatically adjust to that vibration that the thought puts out.” So I'm like, “Well, me feeling shame about how my body looks and wanting to cover it up so it's not seen must not be what I should be doing. Try something else.” Right? So I start thinking of affirmations but they were still along the lines of not where I want it to be. Ok but not good enough. I can't remember what exactly they were so I was like, “You are Still putting your body down.” So then I went general and I had my eyes closed and I said,"I Am Beautiful." Loving it as it is right now. With no attachments. And guess what!! It felt like my whole body was a living flowering bush of roses and pretty flowers. I could feel them opening and see in my minds eye how that thought and the vibration it carried with it, triggered them to open up and start blooming all over the place. Isn't that neat!?!

obviously people don’t have the guts too pull the trigger so they do it very very VERY slowly
Smoker’s are doing the same thing with every cigarette, and so are many other addicts.
Pretty much todays society is-so competitive. In every aspect, from the way we look, too the company we surround ourselves. Partners need too meet a long check list.
All this stems from two places..the mirror at home and the phone screen..living in comparison! people need too step out of living materialistic and enter spirituality! like this, you can embrace ageing and all other things that don’t meet your happiness criteria

I ask for another video on this topic, I suffer from years of self sabotage and destruction in the form of addiction, lying etc etc. I have been working deeply on confronting my inner traumas and demons that I have become a master of disguising. After watching this, plus several other talks on self sabotage, I find the my biggest issue isn't addressed commonly, which is guilt. I find the guilt of even knowing your better than how you ate acting OR the guilt that comes from imposter syndrome (E.G. she loves me because she doesn't knowI will inevitably break her heart and that I am not the person she knows and loves.) I find this to be the biggest challenge to overcome, as my impulse is to blind my loved ones of my pain , and throw my guilt in the bin rather than addressing its roots. I'd love to hear someone's opinions on this.

I have this "weird" philosophy that has allowed me to succeed in recent years in university after taking forever to get to this point, I try for Bs, this drives some of my more academic friends nuts but there is a logic to it. When you don't obsess over being perfect (in this case "A"s) not only do actually get more out of what you doing, such as learning the subject better, but you also come closer to reaching perfection naturally...that is to say, I have actually gotten so many "A's since I stopped trying so hard to get them.

Why the hell did my girlfriend have me watch a self help video from a B level actor that could barely hold his shit together back in the day? Oh and now he is an expert I better listen to the rich people's way of dealing with problems. "Make money off less fortunate people"

I have often been told that I cut my nose off to spite my face, another way of saying that I self sabotage. It's true, lack of faith in myself leads me to self destruct before anyone else can take me down. At least by understanding this and acknowledging this fact, I am in a much better place prior to rehab. It's a long process to get treated but at least I have a better understanding of why I am the way I am now. Self loathing is thought of as, woe is me. That's bullshit. When you hate yourself to the point of suicide, what others think is secondary to the way that you hate yourself. It's not about sympathy. It's about understanding. Until you can rationalise, you can only emphasise. The mind of an addict only undermines the good others see to further fuel the self hate one feels. Once you become numb to pain, you are your own worse enemy and only hear what you want to hear. Dissecting a compliment to the point where it becomes an insult. No news is good news and good news is a lie.
