You came here for a Comedy Master Class and you left thinking about the importance of good editing.
That's still part of a comedy master class, everything has to do with everything, specially in the audiovisual stuffs, you may think editing as a tool just for video, but you can "edit" your stand up set by knowing how to get a better pace and how to tell a story for example
This video is more about visual comedy, because essentially hes a producer/writer. Not a stand up comedian
So what you're saying is not only did we learn comedy but also how to edit.

I love the content and insight from Dan, but the technical issues really bring me down on this.
How does a world media festival publish a video with audio only working on one mono channel, with editing and camera work that cuts away from the relevant subject?

This happens with most panels like this and whilst I don't know enough to be sure about it I think it's because recording the panel isn't the main job of whoever is doing it. Basically they're manning the sound booth and once in a while go 'oh yeah I'm supposed to do that too'
I didn't want to be the first one to mention the weird "Cameraman has a crush" segment of the video--but I'm glad I didn't have to go too far to find it.
I do not understand what's happening here unless Dan specifically said, "It would be funny to zoom in on someone for no reason, just to see the youtube comments."
I guess it was technically a kind of pica-boo...

Completely agree. For that bad editing, and the reason of it only being uploaded in the left channel stereo, I had to downvote. Big missed opportunity. Such carelessness some of these organizations have in uploading videos.

Dan Harmon was successfully Incepted! "Elephants" (if I remember correctly) was exactly the same example JGL character uses to define "Inception" to Saito at the beginning of Inception...if memory serves.

+Ryan Harrison it's interlacing, a video artifact produced by the compression of a video. Instead of a progressive frame rate (one image at a time) the images are interlaced (one line at a time). It's disgusting. I hate it too.

9:45 I'm willing to bet the camera operator and director/board operator are talking about the girl in the middle of the frame. What other explanation can there be for such a long moment spent on some random in the crowd while the keynote speaker is in the middle of a joke that clearly has a visual component to it.
Manny Peters I think they wanted a shot of someone laughing as a secondary “cut to” splice in. But then for some reason, used their coverage shot for way too long.

I wrote this awhile ago and found it
jigsaw instead shows his captured victims him doing stand up on stage, and he would start with something like I want to tell a joke...I was in my wheelchair and my wife was next to me some asshole ran into the building while we were leaving and slammed the door into her pregnant self causing a miscarriage *stares into camera intensely* you have 60 seconds.
victims are freaking out trying to break out and are mostly like wtf was that do you know him I don't even think he's on Netflix why did we watch that we have to break out.
this happens over and over with jigsaw doing more sets of open mics and the only people that survive are the ones who laugh. they have a mechanism attached to their diaphram chained their limbs to the walls and if the machine detects laughter from shaking and has to hear the sound of it they will be let go and become jigsaw's opener

Weird, how many commenters seem to have never seen a taped conference talk. What moron is running around telling people RUclips is a place for studio quality cinematic presentation? The sound sucks and the edit is rough. You'll survive. We'll get through this tragedy together.
For those of you who are extremely annoyed by the audio, if you download the video onto your computer and drop the audio into an audio editing program, all you have to do is convert the audio from stereo to mono and it will fix it. Enjoy!

Diversity requires more effort on the part of leadership which is why buy in at the top is so important. You want a diverse writers room then you need to work harder to get it. Period. That's how the system is currently setup.
amazing presentation that is interesting to many more people than those that are looking for a career in comedy. however it seems like everyone who was part of the production of this video (except harmon ofc) needs to get a fucking clue lol...

As much as the camera should have been on Dan, I'm at least glad it was her and not some other random person in the audience. She was laughing all the time and seemed engaged. A1 audience member.
