Quinn thankyou for reigniting my passion for reading after nearly 12 years since I just stopped. Sometimes when I just want to run away from this world and i feel lonely, i put headphones on and just listen to you talk about my favourite books. Thanks man.
Your breakdown of the timeline of this series had me constantly looking forward to the next video. The story constantly went into completely unexpected directions and I love the message at the end. Now we can only hope that Tencent puts the other two books to screen as well. I can't wait to see how they would depict the wild stuff that's coming next
Excellent! I have always loved the music you choose for the background of your narration as well as the intro/outro. It is just so fitting to the subject matter! Thanks for keeping this channel going strong!
Your passion for this series has really rubbed off on me. I'm dealing with depression and all that stuff so I prefer my more optimistic science fiction but this series is absolutely fascinating. I used to think it was depressing just for the hell of it but it really does seem to have alot to say about humanity, which is exactly what science fiction is all about.
What impressed me most about this series had less to do with the sci-fi aspects and more the anthropological. The amount of care and attention given to the question about how humanity would respond to the fact that they know an existential threat is heading towards them; they know when (or at least have a good idea) and as to when and what form it will take. Throwing in that the ETA is beyond the first several generation's lifetime, but not so far out that it isn't constantly on everyone's minds. There was a time when this type of thing was something people had to deal with. In the Ancient world, when you are aware an enemy army is heading your way, but might not get there for several months or even a couple years. That really isn't something that's been an issue for a long time. There was a realism to how everytime someone was taken out of stasis after being asleep for decades or a century, to find that the world was completely different from how it was before, including society's view on the Trisolarans imminent arrival: from hopelessness to authoritarianism; a martial preparedness to denial. It's like watching an entire species going through the various stages of grief.
Thanks for covering this series in such detail. While I enjoy the overall concepts in it, it's a little too complex in themes and scale for me to read personally, so I enjoy your detailed summary of them!
Enjoyed the concepts in the book but the character Cheng Xin kind of ruined the series for me. To trust her once with the fate of mankind was suspect, to trust her a 2nd time after her abject failure was beyond comprehension.
A lot of readers felt the same as you. When the novel was first published, Liu did respond to this question raised by many fans. If I recall correctly, he said this reflects the reality of humanity. Humans are not always strong and united; we have flaws, weaknesses, and sometimes we are too kind. Our gestures have good intentions, but the results can turn out bad.
I understand what you mean but I disagree. Firstly, she really was not trusted for the 2nd time, she just took on a responsibility that in hindsight was responsibility over the humanitys' survival. She gave the ownership of Halo Company to Wade but it was not the humanity that placed trust in her. Instead I feel as if she took on a huge responsibility either naively or out of massive arrogance and belief that she knows best. In the end she makes the wrong choise but it is discussed that it was a delay of about 34 years at thst point. In reality more time was wasted by humanity by banning lightspeed research as there are years and years between her receiving the fairytales and her awakening in bunker era. If that time was spent, already, on lightspeed research it couldve been on time. So really, the 2nd mistakes was a larger decision and her mistake on making Wade give up was not a responsibility given to her but instead one she just took on. I think her character is actually quite good in that she is very human and makes a lot of mistakes, even after she should know better she is just a crisis era human, not a galactic era human. Its also shown in the discussion at the end when they ponder whether to return to the grand universe or not
And even at the end the message is : give back the mass you stole from the universe and all the memories ( not you that are living inside the small universes). And what does she decides to do …… yep she fucks up again ….
Am i the only one who was so proud and relieved that humanity end up being considered one of the mightiest civilisation ? After all we have endure in those 3 books, so much despear, feeling powerless and here we are still standing !
There's a RUclips video I watched a few years ago that really, really shows you what the expansion of universe will lead too, and what deep time really looks like. I'm not a full blown nihilist, but it did show me that nothing we do matters in the end. In 10 quintillion quintillion quintillion years, nothing that you, me, or anyone else has ever done or accomplished will have mattered.
Really seems like a one of a kind series, the science is so wild yet not absurdly implausible. Thanks for all the videos you do, found several new universes to delve into through them.
First heard of this when you made your first video on the series and now it’s my favorite sci-fi series. Would love to hear your thoughts on the 4th/spinoff. Love the really heady and existential themes in the end of the series.
Feel like I am such a different person since I started watching your series on these books, lots of things have changed and yet its all pretty small in context to the enormity of this book. Good job.
Only read the first book so far but it was your commentary about them that got me intrigued, love it. Edit: just ordered the last 3. Edit 2.0: They arrived! Let the crisis era begin!
I just love your video's on the Three Body Problem, thank you so much for making these! I have a hard time effectively forcing myself to read through these books the first time and have yet to read a second time; yet I am in love with the idea's and thought experiments the series uses. They are terrifying yet absolutely incredible! Though these ideas can be terrifying, I can't help but enjoy playing with these concepts in my own mind.
Hey Quinn, I picked this series up because of you and it’s now my favorite sci-fi series. Thank you for shedding light on it. I don’t think I would have found it if not for your videos. Funny enough, your ominous opening theme is something I now associate with this series lol thank you for the awesome recommendations. If I ever need a new book to read, I know exactly where to look now. Thanks, bud. You’re doing great things.
This series left me with lots of amazing questions in a good way. Did the Trisolarians and Humans ally? Who were the beings who used to be in higher dimensions? What would two dimensional time be like? How did the philantropic civilisations survive amongst the trigger happy dark forest hunters? Who did Trisolaris have a war with? Whos trade routes were near Cixin's star? How were civilisations changing maths? Did AA see blood floowing in two dimensions? The author throws in so many single sentences that send your mind racing.
Fantastic read. The TBP and Death's End has so many good concepts that while not perfectly executed, showcases fantastical ideas mixed with human nature.
I started this series only a month ago on the back of your videos...already read through all three and loved them! Thank you Quinn and keep up the great work!
Cheers from the UK matey! Love a bit of R.O.E. reflectivity. No one else in my circle of family, friends and acquaintances "gets it" with this series, I love it's large scope. Awesome! The real meaning of the word!
The universe of this series, as dire as it seems, is ultimately more hopeful than the universe in which we, the readers, live in. Coming to that realization is a great moment of cosmic horror!
I would love to see you cover the space force’s timeline. There’s so much madness and mayhem takes place during and after the battle of darkness, and their tribunal in the deterrence era. Thanks for making amazing videos I’m absolutely obsessed with this series and I can’t stop reading and watching your other channels too.
I appreciate your diving into this series. You’re awesome!! I stumbled upon your channel about a year ago, and was so intrigued by TBP I read the whole series over a couple of months. I’m still blown away by it. I just started watching the series on Viki, and while it’s not top tier, it’s still okay.
I'm glad you cover these books in such detail, I went out and bought them as soon as you recommended them (or rather, as soon as I watched the first part of your first video on them) and I can't get enough.
I discovered this book series through Quinn's videos, I would have NEVER read this book or opened it without the chilling ways of which Quinn describes the existential and cosmic horrors of this trilogy. I still have every intention to read it, but still. . .If I had the mindset for approaching sci-fi I would have grabbed this book on my own. Now that Quinn has primed my mindset, I can discover more sci-fi novels after I finish remembrance of Earth's past series.
Quinn, I both Love and Hate you! I love you for introducing me to this series a year ago, I hate you for introducing me to this series a year ago. I have read so so so many scifi books, among which from your recommendations in your streams: Killing Star, Childhood's End, the whole Dune series, House of Suns, But man-oh-man nothing has thoroughly screwed my up like this series..... It was such a fun ride, that I even listened to the audiobooks 4 times since then. Can you or any of my lovely co-fans of this series recommend more books that are as cerebral as Redemption of Earth's Past series, or even something with a similar vibe and dread that is the DarkForest theory? It would be incredibly appreciated
Amazing! Your channel is so great for me, because it is very hard to read for me because of my ADHD. But you bring me the magic of those stories anyway, and in such an eloquent and intelligent way that I feel like I read the books myself. Thank you!
The idea of a contained mini-universe is sorta like what Greg Bear did in Eon novel. It involved a infinitely long, artificial tube-like universe, and the existence of which eventually was found to hinder the larger universe's evolution / ending.
I just ended to listen the third book (I listen several hours a day audiobooks while doing low effort tasks ,so I heard one after the other). I don't wanna sound cocky , but the truth is that is hard for me to lost again fear. All my life I've been doing crazy stuff just to master emotions. I didn't got scared with these books. Maybe because I am aware the world is against us on many many ways. thing is , they made me feel something that I find much worse. I truly felt despair. Hopelessness. It was like those monsters in Harry Potter (dementors, those that suck your joy). I am a true believer in human progress and I love humankind. So reading how ,just like a rollercoaster, we go the wrong path again and again, meanwhile getting the anxiety produced by the imminence of catastrophe. Never in my life I got to feel emotions so strong . For me , the only way to don't fall into nihilism if you incorporate this view of the universe(is fiction but gives you a pov about the cosmos that it doesn't matter if it's a fairly tale or not) is to work on self awareness and to see how lucky and awesome is to be alive. Btw, AWESOME channel my friend. As a 40k lore junkie (no bs I've read over 100 books haha) , would be nice to hear your thoughts. It's a different tone, with a lot of over the top stuff and bad writing, but believe me when you imagine yourself living there... Is crazy donkies
@@craigsolomon1657 the "love for HK" was to support why I got so emotional while progressing the story and doing again and again stupid sht. Have you ever played "No Man's Sky "? It's an amazing space game and would be perfect for using footage of frigates, freighters, and other massive and/or small space ships. Whole fleets of ships are constantly popping out of hyperspace when you're flying around any star system. Plus there's an infinite amount of flora and fauna that are procedurally generated. Many creatures look like they're right out of a Lovecraft story. The game is so big it would take everyone on Earth working 24/7 for 15,000 years to visit every star system and planet and moon. It's an amazing space game that I guarantee you'll find very entertaining. Funny tip, you literally have to use Stargates to visit planets. There's pictographs you have to input in order to travel to planets previously found by people. (Just like the Stargate movies and shows)

Person of Interest is such an amazing show. Give it a chance, and watch with an open mind. It starts with the typical format of crime serial “case of the week,” but the plot quickly expands into something far grander. On my rewatch, I was surprised by just how early Nolan was setting up his greater vision for the show-what seemed like fun early boilerplate reveals itself to be crucial pillars for the universe Nolan creates.

The pure joy of seeing a Quinn Three Body Problem vid on your feed followed by the existential dread of what the actual video contains is always a rollercoaster 😅
I've had a harsh cough for about a week now, can't sleep at night. I work on an ambulance so I really need to be getting sleep, I love listening to your videos at night, this helps me so much. Thank you for your work Quinn.

Cheng Xin is the perfect representation of humanity's hubris and ego, can't possibly top that
Quinn thankyou for reigniting my passion for reading after nearly 12 years since I just stopped.
I just the finished the last book of the Foundation series and I completed the Three Body Problem series back in December and January.
So I can finally go back watch your videos and not worry about spoilers.
Thanks again
How did you like the foundation series? Which one was your favorite?
I can't thank you enough Quinn. I've been following you for over a year and this is my all-time favorite sci-fi series you have covered. I don't have access to the show, yet, but I'm excited and patient. Again, thank you.
There is a show???? (I thought there are only books?)

Quinn, i really appreciate your Q & A. You do not take the easy ones, but rather the questions that you can answer with your intention for the content you create. Thank you for the insights and hard work
Sometimes when I just want to run away from this world and i feel lonely, i put headphones on and just listen to you talk about my favourite books. Thanks man.
Your breakdown of the timeline of this series had me constantly looking forward to the next video. The story constantly went into completely unexpected directions and I love the message at the end. Now we can only hope that Tencent puts the other two books to screen as well. I can't wait to see how they would depict the wild stuff that's coming next
It’s here!!! I recently read all of the books. Can’t wait to hear you explain it!
Excellent! I have always loved the music you choose for the background of your narration as well as the intro/outro. It is just so fitting to the subject matter!
Thanks for keeping this channel going strong!
Yesss,he totally "nails it" with the music!!!
I believe his partner actually composes all the music he uses. Theres a whole channel dedicated to just that music!
@@patreekotime4578 Really? That is actually really f'n cool! I will have to check it out.
@@ilselauwers6009yea at that point I was cracking up that she fkd up again.

I have just finished Death's End. Truly amazing, mindblowing. Or at least it is to me. Thanks for putting me onto this absolute gem of a series Quinn
The three body problem series is probably my favorite story ever told, what a series.
First heard of this when you made your first video on the series and now it’s my favorite sci-fi series. Would love to hear your thoughts on the 4th/spinoff. Love the really heady and existential themes in the end of the series.
Heck yea
It's a cool spinoff.
I did'nt even know that there's a 4th book??? Is it worth reading?

Your coverage of this series made me want to read all 3 books. I did, it was worth it
Thanks
Will always remember this series thank you for putting us on
Cheers from the UK matey! Love a bit of R.O.E. reflectivity. No one else in my circle of family, friends and acquaintances "gets it" with this series, I love it's large scope.

The universe of this series, as dire as it seems, is ultimately more hopeful than the universe in which we, the readers, live in. Coming to that realization is a great moment of cosmic horror!
I seriously screamed when I saw this was uploaded! I've been waiting months for this video!!!
I would love to see you cover the space force’s timeline. There’s so much madness and mayhem takes place during and after the battle of darkness, and their tribunal in the deterrence era.
I would love an audiobook channel with the stories you present on here. I love science fiction but I just cant be asked to sit down and read.
Your excellent coverage of the book series is like reading it again in a book club of sorts. Very much enjoy and appreciate your hard work!
I absolutely LOVE listening to this series. This dude is a genuine content creator.
God! This video gave me serious chills. I love this series so much, and i really appreciate you and your opinions. Love you Quinn!

Thank you!
I second this
Listening to this series has started my journey into reading science fiction, Im excited for the dread.
Great job keep it up.
It's the first time I heard someone else interpreting the series as a metaphor to our own environment. Good one, Quinn. Once more, pristine content!
Dude, you get it, it has nothing to do with loving humankind, It is a poorly written story in far more areas of the book then others.
@@craigsolomon1657 the "love for HK" was to support why I got so emotional while progressing the story and doing again and again stupid sht.
On the other side, I didn't understand why I got it and the poorly written story part as well (dunno if you are talking about all the books, some parts,etc.).
And it's because I want to understand your comment only, not refuting writing quality (spent over a decade reading only non fiction and academic stuff, so I lack the skills to spot literature mistakes or masterful structures, etc).
The change to “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” from “Three Body Problem Series” shifts my thinking on the series. No, I haven’t finished the first book yet. Hooboy. 😅

I agree this Trilogy is one of the best sy-fy story in the last decade. With some books I read I get the feeling of losing a good friend or family member when I'm done and this Trilogy had that for me, it is sad but also it is cool to have the feeling you really connected with a fictional character

Love Quinn remberance oep videos . Got me hooked on the books. Thanks.
(Just like the Stargate movies and shows)
Brilliant work & explanation of the end Quinn. Still my favourite 'recent' series since I read it a few years back.
