- Thank you so much for being here!
I love getting to know all of you so introduce yourself in the comments. If you're in the Eugene area and currently involved with vanlife, or are wanting to live this lifestyle, please email me Contact@mybasicjourney.com (: I'd love to talk!
I can't believe the day has finally come to move into my van! This has been such a long time coming. I am stoked to bring you guys with me on this epic adventure to camp host on a lake in the Deschutes National Forest. I was offered this position in March and was originally supposed to come up here a couple weeks ago. However, with covid-19 taking over, they closed all camp grounds. I thought this was a dead dream, so I didn't share it with anyone really.
Lucky for me though, they opened up on the 6th of June and called me the friday before. I was so ecstatic, and also extremely nervous. This is the beginning of a new incredible life. I will be here until October where I plan on going on another adventure! Be sure to subscribe if you're interested in MyBasicJourney through life!
Thanks to you guys (my subscribers and friends) again for being here. Subscribe for more (mini) VanLife content, as well as travel, adventure and becoming a digital nomad.

You hit the algorithm jock pot. Your video was recommended and notified me out of no where. I’m glad it did, what a fun channel, thanks for the video ! New sub here 😊
So happy for you. Please stay safe and watch out for coyotes with Joey.
Keep Joey close to you. I understand the coyotes are prolific this year and they're not beyond snatching a nice little dog. I have 2 friends that lost their babies that way. 😔 Keeping him on a leash might be a good idea.
I'm so happy for you! You're so courageous!
You know, I'm 62 and would like to, sometime when I retire, go do something like that.
Blessings!
Most of the people I work with are all in that demographic! Most of them are couples that do this seasonally and go to the desert in the winter in their RVs. 💖
I’m heading for the same lifestyle - why not put the screen tent the opening of your van? It would be an extension of the van. Also consider a tarp for flooring, might be good. Best of luck!
Came to suggest the same!
Ooooohhh that’s a good idea!
I just ordered SUV tent for my extension to my micro camper. Can’t wait to get this new chapter started!
I’m also happy to see that being in a mini van didn’t preclude you from your camp ground host job. I will be in my SUV
That’s so exciting, your first day and night in your van.Your van build videos are super helpful to take the fear out of building out my own van. Thank you! I’m so impressed with your courage and ingenuity. It seems like a lot of good fortune has happened to you since you decided to live the vanlife. I’m happy for you. I will continue to watch your channel for inspiration. And I love that your vegan spreading the good vegan word through making your dreams come true. Blessings to you. 🥰
AMAZED with ALL the space, Joey had to retreat to his comfortable bed in the van! AWESOME!
How exciting for you! I love the moments in life when you're at the VERY beginning of a drastic life change...it's electrifying. Thanks for sharing.
I like your story with how you made your story go to van life. Great transition! You made the right choice going from what you were doing with your life to this new chapter! A lot of us languish in our lives drinking etc and it's such a waste instead of going out in the world and really living! Don't ever go back -keep moving forward- you are still young and have all possibilities open to you
I was recommended your video and I love it. You are a vibrant ray of light. I hope everything works out great for you. Stay safe out there and keep close eyes on Joey. He's so precious.
I was very entertained by your video! You guys rock!
Love ur van setup. Ur absolutely right abt campground hosting for van lifers. It's a great way to earn extra money and the more primitive ur able to go, the more likely to get that position. I'm proud of u. Stay safe out there sis.
I enjoy your sweet disposition :)
This next step in your life is so exciting! Thank you for sharing it with us!
So excited for you! What a beautiful place!! The trial and error is so familiar.... nice thing about van life is that you can always change and adjust, but things will hang tight until you hit on the next idea.... adventure! Joey seems to be happy too! Lucky dog! WooHoo Enjoy!!
Joey is so happy!! 💖💖💖 Thank you so much, JT!! You have been so supportive since the beginning!!
I’m on van 9.0 and I just got mine in October!
Congratulations Chantal on actually moving into your van. How exciting. I am looking forward to your future videos. Enjoy your dream!
Thanks, Lori!!
I am excited to see you got a work camp spot! It gives me hope! I keep finding ones that want a couple or a full on, self contained rig. Glad to know there are opportunities for vanlifers.
Pretty daunting step, this is a big change and requires bravery. It just gets better. Hang in there, you are doing great!
Thank you!! 💖
Oh...that vista is breathtaking. I hope you are deliriously happy and love your job and home. I’m so wishing I could do this, too! Take care and stay safe...Peace to you, in all you do...
My uncle lives in Eugene! I am so excited for you 😃 as soon as I retire I am living the van life . I need to figure out how to get a camp post job 😎 take care ❤️
Joey is so cute - what a sweetheart! He’s like, “yeah Mom, van is the most secure place for me to chill” ...he loves his den! 🤩
Haha so true!! 💖
It's great to see you so excited! Have an awesome time as a camp host.
Congratulations 😊! I just moved into my van almost 2 weeks ago and it has been quite the experience. Have a great time with Joey and good luck with the new job!
What a beautiful camp ground! Congrats on the hosting job 🌞Joey seems to really like it there 🐾
Thank you! He loves it!!(:💖
Cool. I retired to Bend about 10yrs ago. I like camping at the Prineville Reservoir with my two dogs in a small RV. Nice. Enjoy!
Omg I’m so excited for you! Can’t wait to see the videos to come! 🙌🏼🌞🌲✨
Thanks, Jessi!! ✌💖
A girl's gotta have her coffee! ☕ HeHe! Joey the security guard in the van! AND a dog's s gotta protect his little den! SO CUTE! 🐾 🐕 🐾💕
I notice a lot of people do what you do with water... Smart!! Good job girl!!! Wow so exciting!!!
I bet it was tough to adjust to moving into the van and starting a new job all at once. You seem like a resourceful person. I hope you stick it out and enjoy all that vanlife has to offer. Your partner in crime is super cute. I'm interesting in learning what Bend is like from a vanlife perspective since I have family looking to move there.
🌼 I enjoyed your video and am super excited for you!!! I look forward to the next one. Joey is a cutie! I look forward to the day I can get out there! Stay safe!
Great advice from the ladies. I’m excited for your adventures.
That just may be the perfect lifestyle,I live in an 8x10 shed in the winter and a home built 4x8 squaredrop camper in the summer. My squaredrop is pulled to campsites for fun by my 1998 Chevy Blazer with a cargo box on top,,i have the choice of sleeping either in my camper or in my Blazer. Yu have Joey and I have my cat Nate. Looking forward to seeing your fun in your beautiful world,,and congrats on your new set up and thank you for sharing
This old guy living the dream is just so happy for you. I am excited that you are set up and found a purpose with the camp host position! Thank you for sharing your story.
Happy for you, just make sure you don't give the exact location where you'll be. Its nice to see you've got everything to help out those other campers stay safe remember we're still in the pandemic so make sure you where your mask so others can follow. I wish you all the best. God Bless I'm excited for you.
OMG your dog is adorable !!!!!!!!!! What a cutie :-) That smile !!!
Nice work on the van. I just got a similar Town and Country and fixed it up. Love to see how people turn them into stealth campers. Yours is the first one that looks..homey.. The little plants and accents are nice details. You look like you are having fun with it. Hope that still is the case. Good luck, be safe and enjoy.
Beautiful! AND... congrats on being official! Keep little Joey safe... Wishing you great times on the road! MiniVanLee has done great video... she is a real treat... enjoy! All the best!
Way to go lady!!! No easy feat putting up that stuff solo. Good job!!!
i love how u can have little joey off his leash anytime anyplace n he stays right with u. my three dogs would be all over place.
Love your videos and how you are just being yourself. Joey is so cute.😍
Hi Chantelle! Nice to meetcha!! I just turned 60 and I am a New Subscriber. Looking forward to watching each new video as it comes out each week. Joey is absolutely adorable.
I read some Comments where people were suggesting some things to have and do to be as safe as you possibly can, and I hope you will follow their advice. Now that we officially "know" each other I will be worried about you if you aren't being cautious in every way, against animal intruders as well as strange and creepy humans.
I hope you love it there Chantelle, and that your Basic Adventure is the very best you could ever imagine!
I couldn't end this without telling you that Joey is ADORABLE! Those little bottom teeth are awesome! Take care until next time Chantelle!! 🤗☀🌌🌅
💕I am thrilled for your opportunity in such a beautiful spot.🌲🌲🍀🌻 Thanks for sharing 👍🙏I hope it all goes great! And the weather treats you gently. Beware of critters under the hood 🐭 Joey has a job also 🐶🐾🐾🐾🐾🐦 cool that the Jay, found you immediately 😊👍
My goodness that’s beautiful. I want to come!!
Your videos are such an inspiration 😍 thank you for sharing your life!!
Love your camp. Gave me some ideas for what is needed. Love the screen tent!
Soooooooo cool!!! Cant wait to see more. I'm a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing. Love Joey
Oh, how awesome for you!! Super excited to follow with you. I am beginning my van life journey in August, absolutely cannot wait!! Good luck with work. Keep posting! Be well, be kind. Have fun and enjoy yourself!!
Soooo glad your back
That apartment is not bad for one person ... congratulations anyway in whatever you are doing and going. Be safe.
The apartment is everything you need. It’s nice. It will be a good home for the next person, what a beautiful area to be in. We live in Tennessee. Be careful out and about. I’m glad you have a dog. Good for security and great company. My husband and I decided to get a class A. A used one. Something we can fix up and make our own. We want to take it to Florida for a few months next year. One of our daughters lives in Florida. I used to live in Florida too. But I got very homesick. Hopefully our daughter want get homesick. It’s the worst feeling. Your dog looks very happy in that pretty spot. The sensory is breathtaking. We have never been to the pacific north west. I live in California for three years. And went up to San Francisco. I think when we get the class A we need to travel to some other places. Like Oregon. I have never seen a bird like that in Tennessee. And yes it’s a good time for a nap. Enjoy your pretty campsite. I did subscribe, Leslye
Joey is so cute.
Best of luck with your new endeavor
Wow what a pretty place to be, with the lake and all those trees. So excited for you and can't wait to see how the camp hosting gig works out. My aunt lives in Prineville near Bend, really cool area. You got to make room for Joey to sleep with you, ha ha he is so cute!!
Nice! I went to the Oregon Eclipse Festival in 2017 and that was near prineville. There were around 50k - 70k people that showed up. We were in line for 8 hours. Good times! Lol I remember driving in through prineville and all the locals were sitting outside along the highway in their lawn chairs and cheering us on like a parade. It's one of the experiences in life I'll never forget. Such a beautiful festival. 💖
Joey is so adorable 😊❤️ good luck in your travels. Stay safe
Enjoyed your video, so glad you're not just another one of these stick thin model types jumping on the back of the van-life idea to promote themselves on social media, looking forward to watching your next installment. Good luck from Ireland and stay safe.
Awesome channel!
Good luck and stay safe.
I appreciate you. 🌱
Yay! Looks like a great adventure you are beginning and a wonderful job. Hope everything works out for you. Best of luck!
I've spent about 200 nights in my '02 Grand Caravan (mostly around Mt. Hood) over the past several years in about three different configurations. Your set up is way better than any of mine ever were, it's cool to see a version of my van but with more effort put into it, kudos. Our vans are even the same color! I've got mine up to about 304k miles and it just keeps going, probably the most reliable vehicle I've owned, been down a lot of rough forest roads on it, suspensions pretty well shot, haha.
Thank you for saying something positive about the vehicle itself. So many people are talking crap about my dodge. Haha 💖💖
Good luck on your journey. I’ve been doing it for two years now. No regrets. Not looking back!
New subscriber😎 I wish I had known about camp hosting back when I traveled in a truck camper in my late 20s. I can't wait to follow along with your adventures. From Illinois, too😎
I'm super excited for you!!
This is the kind of videos I enjoy watching! Most of them start this way but then they become “talking heads” as if their opinion on every little thing is important. And I suppose it is to a lot of people, but I enjoy the daily life in a car, van, suv, etc and the challenges faced and overcome.
I enjoyed all of the video.. Good luck with your new job and enjoy van life..
I'm prepping for van life too..im not old..not retire age... But I will have my dog with me too .. Enjoy your cutie... Dogs are DEFINITELY emotional support
this vid was very pleasant to watch, i love your personality. Great camera work. Looks like a great adventure!
Beautiful campsite! And Joey is the CUTEST!!! 💙 Hope you have a blast this summer!! Stay well, stay safe. 🙏🏻☮🏕🌞🌠🎶
Very cool video! I'm about to start seasonal work so I can save some money to start Van Life, and I think your Van looks so cool! It's decorated so nicely and looks super cozy. Hopefully I can make my Van like that too! Also being a campground host sounds like a lot of fun!
Joey is cute. Have fun with your job. It looks like fun.
Van is great. I love sleeping in mine. Good luck!
You are in a beautiful area!!! You dog is so cute. Be safe!
Looks good...that screened pop-up tent was a real good idea. As the season gets warmer and buggier you will be so glad you have it. Enjoy!
Oh yes!! The mosquitoes are no joke around here! 🦟🦟🦟🥴
What a beautiful spot and wow love that screen tent!
You are loved....amazing lady. Amazing life.
Best of luck. You seem like a sweet person, never lose that. Hope to be doing that myself before long.
Hi I am Barbara from Sacramento, CA. The canopy looks great where it is. Yay! Fire time with roasted marshmallows!!! Hi Joey! Have fun! Wow! Great attitude!
Wish you & Joey well on your journey, great view, nice setup. Stay safe!!!

Yay! Very happy for you girl. That sounds so fun! Once my kids are all grown up I am thinking that traveling in a van is something that I would like to do.
Hello, from Sweet Home Or! Looking forward to watching more videos!
FI can wait for your next video. Stay safe. Xoxo to Joey. Cutie fur baby.
Cool video, glad to see women are getting into this camping and outdoor stuff stay safe enjoy life, always watch your back,I know from experience, consider getting a weapon of some sort and be aware of your surroundings and if something is telling you, to leave or don't stay there just do it listen to your instincts
I've been into this "camping and outdoor stuff" my entire life. (;
Great camp site. Joey is adorable. I lost my Joey (a small chi) 3 yrs ago.
I feel your excitement.🙏🏻 I’ll be heading out to a life out in the wilderness somewhere very soon as well. Exciting, anxiety over the unknown, but so looking forward to a new beginning!
Feel all those feels!! 💖 if you're not feeling all of those things when making a life change, there's not enough passion for what you're doing!!
Amen! to that. Right on point.
How exciting! Congrats and I can't wait till I roll out!
Yay!!! So exciting. I've been so excited waiting for this! I also just got my minivan a couple weeks ago and working on the conversion. Hope to see you one day on the road! Can't wait to hear more about your camp host journey. XOXO!
Thank you, Kristy!(: I hope so too!💖
Stay safe with Joey. Take care.
How exciting!
Love the van. Wish I was going but I am very soon. Van issues you surely understand. Almost done though. 5 brand new all terrain tires yesterday. Yayyy. Have a safe trip
You're Gorgeous and have such lovely eyes! I started following your Journey. 😀
This is exactly the type video we dreamers need. Your excitement is wonderful. A couple questions:
1. How did you find the job? All the ones I've seen say you have to have an RV.
2. How are you attaching things to your ceiling? I poked a hole in mine and it made a big, ugly hole in the headliner. I'm especially interested in the hook you have in the front center to hang your privacy curtain.
3. Not a question, but suggestion. My pups wear pj's on cold nights.
Keep 'em coming!
I found it on recreation.gov and I talk more about the job itself in my next video on Sunday! I used thumbtacks in my ceiling. They fall out sometimes, but I just pop em back in. The hook in the middle is a command hook that I stuck to the center plastic thing that holds the ceiling up.
You are so brave... inspiring and uplifting....so you're going to work where you live.... That's Great..... you're funny too...love Joey...Be Careful and Safe.... I will definitely be watching your progress and journey.... Thanks for the video.👍😉💞❤️💖😀
Aww thanks, Tammy!! That was so sweet. 💖
I love your vids n you have a great warm personality....dog is way too cute. Be safe .
I’m so excited for you ❤️
I love following your and Joey's journey! so inspiring!! love it !!
Have fun with this. I have thought about being a host... I would love stories from the camp host. I love the forest.
There’s a local man that rents out camp on air B and B I’m going to ask if he has a camp host!
Thanks for your video, I love the NorthWest .(min 2:59) Also, a shout out for Chrome at VanCity VanLife, spotted the Weirdos-Unite sticker. Also, my wife said you have a very nice smile. Be Happy.
So happy for you. Looking forward to your next video.
The only advice I would have is depending on where your at and stay length pick up a little gig here or there or like agency work. It will help keep a nest egg in case of repairs or whatever because of how cheap it is for you to live you can stack money fairly quick. Healthcare is great little gigs like CNA, HomeHealth, Sitter Jobs and can work whenever. Anyway, I hope you're having fun and enjoying life. I just vacayed in Oregon in Feb/March and I love your State and thinking of seriously moving there in about five years from Colorado. I pray your RUclips channel takes off and you have a blast. Your editing is excellent also.
Thank you!
Congrats on your new place and you two be careful
Thanks for the good advice on camp hosting 😊 I'll be starting suv living in a few months with my two cats lol
