My polo has that same sealant mark on the drivers side inner wing as well. PITA

I managed to get mine off in the end! It scrapes off quite easily with something plastic, then you can just use some cleaner to get the last bits off

Hi, I'm just getting stuck into a 1985 Polo and need the tube/pipe from the exhaust manifold to the air filter housing (that supplies warmer air to the carb on cold days, operated by a flap inside on a vacuum) - You mention getting the replacement on from Heritage Parts - do you have the name/description/part number please?
The black marks on the inner wing are from wax oil treatment that they applied to new cars many years ago - mine is the same.
    Tim

I believe this is the one I bought - www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/028129087a-cardboard-corrugated-50mm-air-hose.html
I managed to get it off fairly easy in the end, its best to scrape it off with something (I used plastic) and then clean up the rest with a bit of degreaser or similar.

Mate my polo has the exact same sealant stuff on the drivers side inner wing. Think it's factory.
What degrease did you use? As my next job is engine clean up

You could be right there yeah! It’s such a mess and looks difficult to remove…I just use the halfords own degreaser. Does a decent job with some elbow grease. They sell the cheap packs of microfiber cloths there as well which is what I’ve been using to apply and clean 👍

The stuff you're talking about is most likely wax as VW did wax preservation in the factory in the 1980s. All the ones I've got have it as well. YOu can also see it dripping out of boot lids for example on Polos or Golfs.

Thanks for the info! Any tips for removal in that part of my engine bay?
