Man, I've dealt with the same stuff this song is about. I spent years by my best friend's side watching her fall in and out of shitty relationships that hurt her. I'd watch her get with awful guys, but she would never listen to my advice and I'd always wait for things to blow up to comfort her. I put up with it for years cause I was in love with her and hoped she'd someday give me a chance, despite how we'd gone out quite a few times and nothing ever happened. It was always so painful watching her get with someone I knew would hurt her. I tried to have relationships with other women but it never worked because I always knew I still loved her. Fortunately we both escaped the shitty cycle, as she found a great guy who treats her really well and I found a woman I love immensely. Even though I know she'll always have a small place in my heart it's so nice to finally find someone I love so much more and who loves me back.
