Morning Guys! Here's a tutorial on how to change the Torro from Single Speed to 2 Speed Transmission. Now... Since the filming of this video I have put the single speed one back in. The 2 speed clutch broke very quickly and the car got stuck in second gear. I did fix it, but could see it being an issue especially when bashing. This is similar to other issues people have experienced with this 2 speed conversion! So... Upgrade at your own risk, and if you do - here's a tutorial to show you how!
Do you know if this transmission would fit an FTX Kanyon? I’ve just seen Modelsport sell a new FTX Kanyon model (looks like a mountain rescue rig), but it has a x2 speed transmission so until they bring out that particular part by itself, I’m looking at any other credible alternatives?

TheRCBiker oh right, well thanks for the ‘heads up’ , appreciate it.... but I’m true big kid fashion I’m probably still going to do it, even if it’s just to suffer the disappointment in reality! Haha. Take care n keep em coming! Thanks
This has helped a lot I have the same car and done the same thing but didn’t remove the engine I changed the bell by taking the fuel tank out but can see now why it’s best your way my gears did sheer off so thanks very helpful. Love the content
Nice video mr Thank you for uploading Also thank you for your comment about it breaking b4 we get to see it running and warning its not a one off issue. Keep it up Mr.. Good work
Hi mate great video on 2 speed transmission one question when I installed my 2 speed on my ftx torro do I need reset my end points and reset throttle servo too let me I just ordered my kit but haven't ordered the clutch I think stock clutch is OK people say upgrade the clutch in behind the pinion bell should I or not let me what you think thanks again 😀
Hi there I am planing on converting my ftx torro to a 2 speed transmission i just want to know what you think of it. Was it worth it, does it work and did it improve performance? I hear a lot of good and negative about it which is why I want to ask someone like yourself who has done it and is a master when it comes to nitro. Thanks
Oh man I ve done on my kyosho inferno but had to make lots of changes on the chassis , but the spur gear was plastics and melted . So I put it back to single again
Hey man, I just bought a old Traxxas nitro rustler 2.5 engine and have to buy a new controller and receiver whats are some good options to buy for it, thank you
It depends how much you want to spend, the FS-GT2 or FS-GT3 is a good budget radio. Or if you want to spend a bit more you can look at something like the Absima CR3P
Hi mate, I have just done this upgrade on mine and i dont seem to be getting any gear changes at all. Ive tried the screw as tight as itll go and ive also tried removing the screw. Tried the screw on every thread either which way... any tips or things i should check?
Hi Simmi, this is the issue I had, The Gear changes are very "quiet" on this one, I didn't notice much of a sound to it. But then it stopped working altogether so I went back to single speed. Are you definitely adjusting the correct screw? Screwing it all the way will make it shift later, you don't want it all the way
Yeah ive adjusted the one that's like half a hole if that makes sense? Im deffo not getting an audible gear change. I have even held the car and applied throttle to see if i can hear it or feel it to no avail
It sounds like it might not be working properly... This is why I quickly went back to the single speed and sent the 2 speed box back for a refund... I did take the gearbox apart and managed to get it working but it then stopped working again 10 minutes later Lots of people have experienced the same issue with the FTX 2 speed box, hopefully FTX will sort it out!
Hello my friend from Greece. I'm interested in buying one of these two cars. What do you think is best in your opinion? Although they should not have major differences. Thanks in advance!
@@ΚώσταςΠαπαδόπουλος-ω3θ Both the same platform and parts, just different body shell, wheelbase and wheels. I would say your decision should come down to which one you prefer the look of
Hi Kevin, no I removed it almost straight away and sent the 2 speed box back for refund. It broke very quickly. I would stick to single speed, it is far better for bashing
Don't no your name yet but thankyou for the information was going to do this don't think I will now 👍 also I have had a few bikes over the years first sport bike after passing my test was a Yamaha 350 power valve then a fzr 600 Yamaha exup last one was Yamaha r1 getting on a bit now and I find the roads deadly as people don't care as you no you have got your eyes everywhere. Was going to something else but thought I would keep it clean. 👍😎✌
Question about the force .18 engine. I've got a kyosho nitro tracker with a ke15sp engine and have thought about swaping it out, do you think it would work as a straight swap? My concern was about crank length and it maybe not working with my current 2 speed.
Hi there, It would work as you'd just put the 2 speed clutch bell onto the new engine. However it wouldn't necessarily be a massive upgrade, I don't know how much difference you'd notice from a .15 ----> .18
@@TheRCBiker Oh another thing I wanted to say was about the clutch nut, my .15 doesn't use that set up so do you know of anywhere I could get a suitable nut? Thanks.
Hi there, anything .18 should fit . The FORCE 18's are good engines, all of HPI engine range is made by Force, what was your reason for wanting to change it?
Well I do recommend Force engines, which is what it's got. I think for the price you can't go wrong. The HPI G3.0 is a good engine also, but it's the same engine as it is made by Force! .18 wise you've not really got any other options than what it already has
They are the same design really, just a different shell and wheels. I would say your decision should be purely based on which one you prefer the look of :)
DO NOT BUY THIS GEARBOX ! It’s an FTX factory untested gearbox with plastic spur gears that are ok in mesh use, but the centrifugal latch sheared the plastic catch off after it was audibly changing into 2nd gear for only 30mins ! The gearchange 2mm grub screw adjustment is 0.75 to 1 full turn out). This was after a load of faffing about using Hub Bell Housing micro-shims to allow the hub to spin freely. I’ve even got it on video audibly changing gear, and then just as I concluded an afternoon success.. CALAMITY !!! FTX really need to make a metal spur gear version asap, because at approx £40 for the full assembly, and wasted time, I’ve had to settle for 1st gear only, which is the same ratio as the standard 1-speed anyway. However, I have had total success with the aftermarket electric start upgrade, which is cheap and easy to fit. Put plenty of grease in it though before assembly, it should last a full summer season.

I agree! Definitely a great choice if you're new to RC. Very easy to work on too

How do you find the 2 speed? Mine broke within 10 minutes so went straight back to single speed and got a refund !

Glad you enjoyed it

This one is back single speed too! 2 Speeds are usually more hassle than they're worth. Sounds cool when it shifts but you don't achieve much else
TheRCBiker Exactly
Can I do this with a Kyosho inferno neo 3.0?
Dumb question. What are those yellow things on the engine. My carnage hasn’t got them?
That's a zip tie threaded through fuel tubing and tied to the engine head to stop it getting scratched if it flips over
Im personally not really a fan of 2 speeds because I feel like single speed is always easier to work on and it’s more solid
I agree
This is back single speed now! Read my pinned comment :)
TheRCBiker ok I will 👌🏼
Hi, new to nitro rcs and have bought this same ftx, what is the advantage and disadvantage of the 2 speed setup? Thanks john.
Not many advantages to be honest. Single speed is much better for bashing.
once more my friend...
a Good job,well done!
Thank you! Cheers!
whats the yellow tabs sticking out the top of the engine
It’s cable tie and fuel pipe to protect the engine

No not the T3.0, you'd need the G3.0. But the G3.0 is a Force .18 engine in disguise, so is exactly the same engine as the one you already have :)
