One important fact not mentionned in this vid: body blocks are forbiden in Rugby. Outside of specific circumstances ( scrum, ruck and maul ), you aren t allowed to physically contact any opponent... except of course the ball carrier. Which will give you a clue as why players sometime kick the ball forward for themselves: Once they have kicked the ball, they can t be tackled anymore ( sure, this is a gamble as the ball tend to bounce off toward unexpected directions ). No blocks ( combined with no forward pass and offside law ) also explained why you have both lines facing each other with the offense moving the ball to the wings by passing it in order to find a gap into the defense. For that regard, scrums, rucks and mauls play a tremendous role in Rugby union as they concentrate many players in a restricted area of the pitch leaving more room for the offense on the width of the field/pitch ( for Rugby League, if there s some Aussies here, il let them talk about it... i m french, and here, we play almost only Rugby union or "Rugby à 15" as we call it).
This is not the best rugby rules video but good enough. If you want to watch two most entertaining games of recent time. The 2023 RWC quarterfinals South Africa vs France and New Zealand vs Ireland are insane contests. They both happened on the same weekend and still boast to be the best games from the 2023 RWC. Have fun and welcome to the most beautiful sport ever. ❤ 🏉
Would definitely recommend what the OP commenter said. The biggest annual rugby competition in the northern hemisphere is the 6 nations which starts on the 31st of January and ends in March. England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales play each other. Would be cool to see your reaction to some of these games. Rugby Union is the most popular sport for both men and women groups, and is the sport i like to watch ;). League is significantly less popular globally. As suggested before, videos on the Springboks and their 2023 match against France are both highly recommended! Welcome to rugby, it's a fun time.
There are about 6 types of football that I can recall: Association Football i.e. Soccer Rugby Union Rugby League American Football Gaelic Football & Australian Rules Football. Enjoy exploring all those codes.
Sevens Rugby (Union) is the version that is played at the Olympics. The USA women are fast improving at this sport and will be Gold Medal contenders in 2028. Chaddington does not make it clear that a Field Goal must be "drop-kick", ie, the boot hits the ball at the same time that the ball hits the ground.
When a player punt the ball, ONLY players BEHIND the kicker are allowed to go after the ball to receive it. Any players who are in front of the kicker are not 'active', meaning they can't go after the ball. Unlike AF, rugby players can't infringe or tackle any players NOT carrying the ball. Players from the same team can only provide support/option for the ball carrier to pass. Means, its harder for rugby players to run thru the opposing teams bcoz his teammates are NOT ALLOWED to create a clear path for him. Once tackled, & if a ruck is formed, the opposing players are NOT allowed to come into the ruck from the opposition side, OR EVEN from the side. They must try & get the ball from their OWN side of the ruck by creating a barrier OVER the ball while the flyhalf will hv to get the ball from under that 'barrier' created. Both teams will try & form this barrier. Simple

Dude! Definitely seek out a local team. Rugby is a game for players of all shapes and sizes ( just look at Shane Williams, Faf De Clerk, Paul Springer, George North, Eben Etzebeth) so please don’t discount the idea. Even if you don’t join as a player your support will mean an enormous amount to them.
I much prefer rugby to American football. American football seems to stop every 3 seconds and that to me becomes very boring. Rugby is a much more flowing game and more exciting to watch. Any sport which stops and starts every 3 seconds. No thanks. I'd rather watch paint dry.
The rules all come from the imaginary line through the ball that goes from touch to touch. If you realise that this line defines what is onside, and what is offside.
Check out the most feared teams NZ All blacks and The Springboks. Die Hard rugby channel and Andrew Forde's channel. Some epic rugby compilation. Enjoying your reactions.🙌
Your observation re: your body type and not being a place for you in rugby. Amazingly, it is a sport for all shapes and sizes. You could be a back, maybe a full back (no.15). Although, many tall "skinny" players are locks (2nd rowers). Take a look at footage of Courtney Laws for that role.
Rugby is not violent... that is a nasty myth concocted by the ridiculous "hardest hits" type videos. Whole games can go on with only minor stoppages for injury. The click bait mercenaries who put out the hardest hit videos do so much harm to the sport.
The reason you can't play an accidental fumble forward is to avoid ambiguity. The referee doesn't have to decide if it was accidental or not
Nice! Enjoyed the vid 😊

Rugby Union is officially played by most of the world.
Around 130 countries play rugby.
Don't forget american football is based on rugby union/league.

There no PUNT. It's a forward chip or an up and under or a grubber kick.😑 punt
There are no rules in rugby its rugby law
The Americans have now started their MLR body. So the games about to get ruined for everyone
