- Welcome to another Don't Starve Together guide! Today I'm taking the newly-reworked WX-78 through an early-game trip to the ruins. WX has always been the king of the ruins, but their rework may, in fact, make them even better. Watch as WX emerges from nine days in the ruins upgraded and equipped to an almost unprecedented degree.

WX-78 Rework is now live in the Beta branch! Here's are the changes:
WX-78 can create circuits that can be installed to unlock special abilities.
WX-78 can unplug their circuits by utilizing a Circuit Extractor. Unfortunately, this means losing any charge that the circuits were taking up!
WX-78 learns how to construct circuits by scanning organics with their Bio Scanalyzer.
The Bio Scanalyzer also produces Bio Data, which is used to create circuits, alongside material from the scanned organic.
WX-78's circuits are powered by their electrical charge meter. The meter restores itself over time, and can also be restored by other means.
If WX-78 gets too wet, they begin losing electricity. If they run out of electricity, they begin to lose health.
WX-78 also loses electricity when they are starving, as they no longer have the energy to maintain their charge level.
WX-78 can eat gears to regain health, sanity, and hunger. If WX-78 dies, they will drop some of the gears that they have eaten.
Clockworks are less aggressive towards WX-78.
From 2019-2021, Klei has released a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them."
"Eye of the Storm" is the final installment in this series of updates and adds the Moonstorm event, a surprise NPC character, and the Celestial Champion to the game. This will complete the Mysterious Energy quest which begins with the discovery of the lunar island and completion of all three celestial altars. It is the longest endgame quest in the game and offers a number of unique benefits to your world and character, such as infinite full moon nights, renewable moon glass, and infinite light in the form of a crown and shards.
"Reap What You Sow" is the seventh major release of updates under the Return of Them in Don't Starve Together and replaces traditional farms with a completely revamped farming system which includes tillable farm plots, unique farming equipment, crop displays, and numerous fertilizers. The system is considerably more complex but provides a system for year-round farming and the potential for highly-accelerated crop production.
The debris from the moon didn't just reach the forest. It's influence has penetrated down into the caves as well, not only mutating its already strange occupants, but opening areas that had been long forgotten. Forgotten Knowledge is the sixth major release of updates under the Return of Them theme and adds two new cave biomes: the Lunar Grotto and the Ancient Archives. It also adds several new mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and two crafting stations including another moon altar and a station for crafting natural turf.
I like it how you no longer can have everything as WX. Before the rework you could have very high hp, sanity and hunger all the same time+speed and light. After the rework you can actually customise wx which is really nice but you don't have as many strong advantages as the old version.
The old version didn't really have much advantage besides the speed and the immunity to freezing. All the other ones are negligible, having high base stats doesn't really make a character strong, its their special abilityes that make them worth playing. The problem with the old WX is that his only strong ability is locked behind another character if you want to use it consistently
Higher stats means more of a cushion for moments that catch a player off guard. They removed some of that cushion off WX.
@@Profphizx exactly. Once I was AFK moonrock farming with bearger and a beequeen crown at the altar and my buddy came over with food in his inventory and I took 4 smashes to the face without ever dying. Op stats.
@@ianweber1990 Yeah becoming an AFK-god will kill it for me. If the game starts to feel like Animal Crossing, I restart. But that's me and a couple of others I play with. For us the joy is pushing ourselves to setting up the most versatile and varied base we can in one play session.
@@ianweber1990 you could only get 450ax health before, but now with 3 advanced health modules you can get 600 so it’s better

The thing I love about this rework is how much exploring is rewarded now. Finding the archives/lunar biome on day one can now allow you to work at night without needing to mess around with lanterns or torches or anything of the sort. Honestly, might give this one a try.
Also I'm bad at ruins rushing so this might help me get more comfortable with it
at the moment I like to use a set of circuits which is just because it gives me a ton health super cheap
I use the moleworm circuit and 2 butterfly circuits
going up and down through the cave when you're low on health for some reason just gives you a good amount back
(also I can't fully remember the names of the circuits so I just name them by the easier mob to scan for)
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!! I love seeing the ruins rushes you do and this is the character rework I have been the most excited about since Wendy. Plus seeing you destroy the ruins with honesty an op character was great
With regards to scanning the rooks, you could stand at the edge of jimmy's circle while he scans it and the rook won't aggro on wx. But in case he does aggro, you can see jazzy actually block the rook as it hops back home, great tip for anyone struggling to scan it!
Totally agree with you this rework makes wx even more powerful as a ruins rusher. What i'm unsure of is how useful his other circuits are in the long game, since the temperature circuits take up 3 slots and the other useful circuits take up 2 and 4 slots respectively.
Most relatable part of the whole video was even though you had all full screen sight in the caves you still couldn't find blue shroom biome. It's a curse I tell you

thankkk youuuuuu, ive been spam searching for any sort of speedrun with new rework --- you seem like the first !!
i think mostly the ease of getting upgrades can mean very different approaches for boss rushing
with the removal of wg speed i felt it was obvious they would release a "new" character (before we saw they were just doing reworks).
wx seems like most convenient boss rushing character, and wanda obviously best for late game.
one thing i find really challenging is ruins rush + shadow pieces day 21 (yet i put pressure on myself to try it) ~ wx and wortox seem like best chara to do this now :) ik its possible with other characters but .. im on the struggle bus ;-;
It's way easier with wx than wortox.. with the speed buff and infinite moggles it's very easy to do any boss in the game ( beside crab King )..
Replacing circuits is so fun its hard to pick a go-to favorite combo. Usually I go with speed 2.0 and leave 1 prong open, then the last 3 prongs go to whatever is convenient. I like leaving 1 prong open so recharge is a bit faster when swapping out. The hardy 1.0 circuit is never really useful as the combat circuits use 2 prongs each. I really hope we get another 1 prong circuit, whether its a new circuit or one of the lackluster circuits get changed (hoping for the hunger one). Theres really no reason to ever use the hardy circuit 1.0 outside of when using a combo that has 1 prong open, so an alternative 1 pronged circuit would allow for some variety.
Im hoping the hunger circuit goes down to 1 prong, since hardy 1.0 would still be the 1 prong solution for the first year. Then some 2/3/1 prong combos would actually be warranted instead of 2/2/2 or 2/4 since the hunger circuit provides immediate value instead of only in combat. The addition of a useful 1 prong circuit would be an indirect buff to the 3 pronged circuits.
As for other circuit changes I think they are mostly all fine. Maybe the chorusbox circuit could use a bit of increased sanity regen. I like the idea of it being 3 prongs to not ever have to worry about sanity. But as it is now using two chorusboxes doesnt even generate enough sanity to offput the drain during dusk. If a single chorusbox gave the value of using two, i think it would be worth the 3 prongs.
Another one that could use a little change would be the sanity circuit. I dont think i have even ever used it outside of crafting dronemaster. But it needs something to fill a different niche than the chorusbox. More often than not, having a very high max sanity does more harm than good, since it takes longer to go between sane and insane. I think the sanity circuit could increase max sanity by 50, and also reduce sanity drain or some similar effect. Idk by how much to make it balanced but it needs to do something to make it unique from the circuits that do similar things, being chorusbox and dronemaster.
Hit the nail on the head in my opinion, the hunger circuit seems the most usless mainly i think because you get every other circuit before it, and having it only need 1 slot for something so trivial as food would be nice.
The sanity module does have a tiny sanity regen but it barley matches dusk/night drain with all 3 equipt while needing to take so much longer to regen because your max sanity is higher
Dronemasters issue is i think that it costs jellybeans, i wouldnt mind tanking/freezing/panfluting bee queen for it but since you have to kill her and its weaker than jellybeans anyway, i cant justify taking 3 slots
Wow this rework was though out and executed so well. I wish the same creativity went into some of their past reworks but what’s done is done. They absolutely crushed it with WX. Coming from someone who doesn’t play him often I’m very much looking forward to putting him in rotation

I only with for the light modul to be 3 or 2 slots, so the OG look is more viable :p

@@braynraya4054 i would guess because the way updates have to be reviewed before going out on console, they always take way longer than they should and that would be hell for klei
For most scenarios I like Speed mk II, Hardy mk I and Dronemaster. Your ruins setup (Speed mk II + Optoelectronic) I'd consider using day-to-day as well.
For winter/summer I use Hardy mk I, Speed mk II and Thermal/Refrigerant.
I've just done the same kinda ruins rush yesterday and I just find it insane how WX saves so much inventory space by not needing a light source. I scanned myself a mole before darkness fell at day 1 and I never even had to make a torch lol
I personally think they should adjust the recipe to include some glow berries cause its a little too broken (it pretty much deletes Charlie from existance)
for something you just got on day 1, it's so powerful
I feel like that is part of wx now, while you dont have to deal with charlie you cant get any circuit above 2 slots now as a downside for always having that one
While its definitely strong, i think the slot cost for all of them balances it out
@@seanperry8569 It also has some downsides, the night vision activates at dusk and also at full moons when you could see without it, its annoying
Im hoping the full moons part is a bug and personally i dont mind it activating at dusk but i can see why it might be annoying
..... walking cane speed..... while wielding a hambat, and night vision while using a football helm.... dear god what kind of monster has Klei created.
i love the concept behind the rework, i just wish the circuits were i bit more well balanced. especially with how much a pain it is to switch them out frequently i don't see myself ever using anything aside from speed, night vision, heater and freezer. increased max stats are extremely overrated and speed is insanely powerful.
I mean it depands, some bosses are just better tanked and for most bosses theres no use for might vision, extra health is great for people who aeent gods as it gives room for mistakes
I love that they gave WX useful perks, some people say that its not good that he has so overpowered perks while others are useless, but I think its great that you can choose from unique options that are also strong. People mentioned that the illumination circuit should cost way less than the optoelectronic, which should cost more because how strong it is. I don't think that people should use the illumination circuit at all, since it doesn't give a unique buff like the other stronger circuits
Nice video, my opinion is that wx receive the same treatment as wolfgang, loses some power (now wx is not able to have all the buffs at the same time) and gained others buffs (fire circuit, eletric circuit, mole circuit), but now he can control his power more easily (dont need telelocator or wicker, to have the buffs)
He is now better. He can have Electric damage or 600 healf or 50% speed or 375 hunger or 375 sanitky or he can add 2 sanity and 2 heal in minit or he can have music for plants and players or permanent Light thats so mutch cool and this all he can combinent
He is actually way stronger with his new abilityes than his older self, even if he can't use them all at the same time. Base stat buffs that the current one has are horrible, his only strong ability is locked behind another character basically, but now he has more unique and more powerful buffs than even his current overcharge mechanic

@@Nugget376 Wanda is definetly the best late game character because of the damage and utility she provides. The characters that are the best late game are the ones that make boss fights easier, so the best late game stats are damage buffs and speed, since those can help you in bossfights, or even just regular gameplay. I think WX is not specifically good late game if we look at the character, I would say that he is overall good at every stage of the game if you know how to get his proper circuits early game
@@tamas9554 Yeah wanda is good. But wx have better stats and in late game you can have merm army (with wurt mask on Charakter) and catapults. Wanda have good damage but in low health
I literally described this exact run in the comment section of Beard’s rework video. Klei may want to do something about this.
Personally I don't mind the idea of a character who can absolutely burn the ruins down halfway through Autumn; other characters already shine later in the game progression and now players have another great option for first Autumn.
@@JazzysGames it''s nice to have a character with permanent night vision or permanent speed up, and his electric fusible it's nice, with 3 fusibles, we can deal a total of 180 damage to a wet mob, fighting Bee Queen while it's raining will be so easy.
@@carlosleite7011 WX-78 doesn't exactly shine in the rain, you'll probably have to wear a raincoat+bee keeper hat.
@@carlosleite7011 Getting hit to cause damage to the grumblebees doesn't really worth it, since it will endanger you and the bee queen will resummon them anyway. Speed is just way better for that fight

If they made the Moleworm circuit cost all six charge slots and made it cost more bio data, I think it'd be more balanced. You get night vision, but at the expense of other powerful abilities. They could also make it deactivate in certain scenarios, like if hunger/sanity/health is too low.
Hoping they don't but if they did then I'd probably rush illumination circuit. Can still do that plus speed circuit.
I don't really think they need to nerf him, the only excuse I can see for nerfing him is because there are other characters that are not as strong. But because this is a PvE focused game character balance is not a high priority, the only reason why Wolfgang/WX/Wicker were so overpowered back then was because the other characters were horrible

But I think - we must have some kind of balance in DS. But as you say, its PvE game not a asian online Pay2Win/or grind 24/7 game. Where devs buff mobs and nerf you, if community get huge progression in game.
A balance must be fair, durable and realistic, to prevent situations like - > you have a character- > default man with a weapon- > you are fighting vs unarmed humanoid mob (And this mob is not a monster with claws, spikes, and a huge-tall body. No, it's just an ordinary humanoid with size like your char).
But from no reason -> he have more HP an damage instead of you.
Before, damage of axe was 50 -> now 27.2. It's almost x2 nerf to player damage. (now all people use Wolf/Wanda to bring old damage back)
But a pigman dmg stay at 33. And pigman HP up from 150 to 250.
And this is create a situation, there suspension of disbelief off for me.
Coz a Wilson with axe deal less damage and have less hp compared to unarmed pigman.
I think a balance must be fair. And of course - all character must have a bunch of good ability. Like a WH get now. Not nerf to horrible, like they do with Maxwell or Wickerbottom.

A infinity thermal stone get durability.
A mobs get a huge hp/dmg boost from nowere like Moose from start have only 2000 hp and 50 dmg to player. Now in DST he has 6000 hp and 75 dmg...
But in past, they alredy nerf a char, for a much smaller reason.
I talk about Willow's Lighter. It been infinity, but gave to you very smal lighting radius and takes hand slot. Now it can perish...
But WH now can have very big infinity light(comparted to Lighter) without take a slot in inventory and also have another 3 slots to ighore winter/hot, or speed, or regeneration, or slow hunger drain.(or full night vision + 2 slots)

@@kokot6764 Mobs likely get buffed because this is a multiplayer game, I think it would be good if boss hp scaled based on how many players are fighting it. On the character nerfs, Klei needs not to make players too op, because then the challange of the game would be gone. I think that this WX update gave him many strong abilityes, but if you really think about it, infinite night vision won't make the game easier if you don't already know how to play it. I think it would be better if every character got stronger, instead of nerfing another because they are too strong. I think the updated WX is very fun, they shouldn't nerf his abilityes
As much as I like this update, I do hate that circuits have durability. We already have the charge loss to discourage swapping on the fly, so I don't see the point of it other than wasting the player's time to farm the ingredients every so often.

Hantears says regular mobs take 10 seconds to scan and bosses take 20, I think she tested it herself with her friends
You don't have to have rope in the shortcut, a click on football helm will make a rope if you didn't have one already.

Permanent free moleworm vision is definitely too OP. There needs to be some kind of drawback to it. Same for permanent free light although I'd say less of a drawback
It's not free, it has a few different layers of opportunity cost between different circuits and just being different characters.
Some things I like, actually a lot I like, except the night vision. Infinite duration with no head slot seems way too powerful, especially for how easy it is to obtain.

I don’t like how gears are nerfed. I think what would’ve been a better compromise if the gears upgraded by 5+ max and over time it would be significantly low.
So, wx would have 800-1000 hp with all the 2.0 hp circuits?

A tip: You might already know it, but the lunar grotto is always connected to the blue mushtree forest. I hope this helps you to find it.

That is no problem because everyone gets better at the game with time and it's okay if you are not ready yet for the caves or you are but you aren't sure about it.
But if you nees some tips then these might help.
-If you have items to keep your stats up (especially sanity) and you watch out dor earthquakes then the caves won't be that dangerous in dst as they seem.
-There is no need to rush the ruins, you don't have to go there if you don't want to.
-In my opinion the wilds is the moat dangerous biome there due to the splumonkeys and the nightmare fissures, but luckily if you avoid that biome, then you can move mostly safely around the caves.
-Stay in biomes with grass or with mushtrees, they are the safest (but watch out for bunnymen if you have meat in your inventory).
-Besides the lantern there isn't any extremely important early-game items needed from the caves, so you can just go and get some light bulbs from around the entrance and climb back right after that.
-During summer the overworld will have hot temperatures and wildfires will occour, but only in the overworld, so going down to the caves with an ice box full of ingredients, a crockpot and an alchemy engine will save you from most of the problems.
(The caves are colder, but ONLY in dst/multiplayer. Unluckily in singleplayer the caves are affected by the heat and the wildfires. Though I'm not 100% sure about the wildfires.)
-You can set the world's setrings to easier, it is completely acceptable.

-Klei Entertainment (When you change something in the world settings in singleplayer a similar message appears, or maybe it's literally what I wrote, I'm not sure.)
-You can watch guides on yourube and read the Don't Starve wiki for detailed infoemation about nearly every parr and mechanic of the game.

Random thing, but is there an ideal setup for bosses as WX?
Probably just 3 speed upgrades, maybe swap 1 or 2 for lv 2 health upgrades. Night vision can be put back on after the fight

Hey, just wanna say thanks for pinning the message about WX using they/them! Gamerbros are gonna be nasty about it, but your response was very refreshing. It's nice to see someone realize their mistake and actually care, especially when a lot of other DS youtubers have been stuck in misgendering WX.
And for if anyone's genuinely curious why it's nice to hear WX's proper pronouns being used, it helps nonbinary people in real life feel a little better around you. If you'll respect a fictional character's pronouns, it's reasonable to assume you'll respect a real person's, too.

One rework problem: wig she can have around 400 hp with helms to cover her hp and her resistance but wx can scan a nurse spider (AND YOU CAN FIRCKING TURN SPIDERS UP UP DONT GO IN THE REPLIES SAYING “blab blah blah it takes like 30 days for a queen to spawn that’s soooooo long” ALSO PEOPLE ACTIVELY COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW EZ CHARACTER SWAPPING IS. Sad that they rebalance wx-78. Did circuit's recipes better and shrink stats, WX is now very good character, but you can't just swap the circuits, you loosing the circuit and charge, so you must just wait for charge and spent materials for new circuits, so these mechanics are motivate you to play with one set of circuits all the run, just because a lot of them not worth it to lose time and resources. Yes, you still can charge from lightnings and generators, but in solo this is pretty useless ability
At least you only lose charge for circuits you disconnect, so you can keep stuff like speed circuits that you want all the time at the bottom.
I actually like that I need to keep scanning for bio data to make more circuits. Makes for some fun builds to keep specimens on hand.
And in the late-game recharging on the fly is super easy with a gemerator. I keep electric milk in my bundle at all times in case I lose charge.

I feel like wx is a little too good right now.. it's very easy to do every boss (beside crab King) with wx.. the infinite moggles and speed buff is wayy overpower imo..
WX just makes things easier with his buffs, for example with more speed you can kite bosses more easily, but you still need to know how to kite. And also because this is a PvE game, characters don't really need big nerfs like they would in a PvP one to make things fair for other people not playing the same character.
@@tamas9554 yeah i agree it dont need a big nerf just a little bit.. maybe changing so that the t2 upgrade a little bit harder to get since atm its very easy to get the best upgrade and infinite moggles feel like cheating to me.. its completely remove the darkness mechanic

This is important. Truly I know, and I acknowledge that I'm not as good with neutral pronouns as I'd like to be. Hard-wired into my upbringing, I suppose. Still, it's not an excuse, and I look forward to getting better at this as I stream more of a gender-neutral character.

But what about him outside ruins rush? I have never was a fan of ruin rush and I was waiting WX rework. And what I see is pretty disappointing. That's cool that you can have "permanent" boost for speed and light and different usless stuff like heat and freez, but you can't have gears buffed tank anymore with it. Now you need to choose between HP or hunger or sanity and half of circuits is trash. Was hoping for working speed buff when overcharged or something usefull for teamplay
All of his circuits that are not related to his base stats are the good ones, because they offer you things that you have only limited access through other characters. The heating and freezing circuits are infinitely better than the bad hp buff circuits, why would you want to have 600 hp, when you can just use healing food and armor to survive damage? The problem with his current gear-based upgrade system is that he only gains base stats, which are useless since you can replenish them very easily whenever you want. For example the heating circuit is good, because you won't need to stop for heating up your thermal stone, same with the freezing one, these just offer you abilityes that you couldn't get any other way, another great example is permanent night vision
