Wild camping on Cadair Berwyn mountain

- An absolutely epic 3-day UK camping adventure on Cadair Berwyn. • 3 days wild camping on... ... it reminded me of this one, where I spent 3 days in Snowdonia and didn't see another human.
Here though, I hiking up onto the 830-meter ridge before wild camping near the summit to capture some photography over the 3 days.
Parking for Cadair Berwyn was near Pistyll Rhaedr waterfall, I then climbed up Moel Sych beside Llyn Lluncaws and camped on the ridge leading to the Cadair Berwyn summit itself. There's a blog post at www.chrishomer.uk that details the route and shares more info.
Day 1 was hard work, I had 30kg of camping and photography gear with me. It was brutal. Sunset was awesome, with a red fiery sky, but I got fogged in just after dusk.
Cadair Berwyn weather is always a bit unpredictable. Camping on night 1 was very cold, down to -10c windchill.
Day 2 was lovely. A cracking sunrise, clear blue skies and warm winter sun. Sunset and dusk were pretty good too. Not as red as day 1 but the skies cleared up overnight for some Astro.
Camping on night 2 was much better. Lighter winds, warmer, and great night sky views.
Day 3 offered another brilliant sunrise, but with stronger winds and I was quick to make my escape back down to the car at Pistyll Rhaeadr.
Cadair Berwyn is a mountain located in North Wales and is part of the Berwyn range. It is the highest point at just over 830 metres above sea level. This lesser-known summit offers great views of North Wales and Shropshire. On this occasion, I could see many of those Snowdonia summits we all know so well, and I'm pretty sure on occasion out to the Irish sea through that pink misty dusk sky.
See the Blog post 3 days wild camping on Cadair Berwyn for more info, or ask in the comments. Cheers

Visually stunning 👏well done.
Thank you!
Quality as always...filmmaking of the highest standard..the timelapses were just sublime...fabulous stuff 👍👍 Cheers mate - T🙂
Lovely bit of cinematography bud.
Love the quieter, less travelled areas like the Berwyns, Arenigs, Rhinogs etc…
Top tip: Take the full cow to carry your kit up, butcher it while there 👍🏻🤣
Hahahaha. Now there’s a thought
Superb video mate. Pure solitude up there and captured so well. ATB pal.
Thanks for sharing
Endless epic shots Chris! Next level filmmaking and your best work to date in my opinion. You’re an inspiration Brother. 🍻
Thanks Doug. Appreciated
Wow great video. Stunning views , great editing skills. Keep it up. 👍
Thank you!
Beautiful vid Chris. Epitomise's what wild camping is all about. Peace, Solitude and being at one with nature. Pure Heaven mate. Keep up the wonderful work you do. when you can.
Thank you! Appreciated. That’s what I’m trying to do here, for these to be “what it’s about”, the place yes, but the experience, without it being all about me or even the specific locations. Thank you
I just found your channel. Bam! Instant subscriber. Breathtaking photography. Thank you💕
Another brilliant video Chris, loving all the different camera angles - also the Timelapse’s were stunning, really enjoyed it ATB Mark & Simon 👍
Excellent stuff mate..I really like how you catch the little details in you're filming not many capable of doing that..looks a superb spot up there might have just gone on the list,I'll be getting maps up 😉
TFS Chris atb..
Cheers, top video and great spot. 👍
Top class as always Chris. Meticulously filmed and presented.
Hope you're getting some winners at the races btw 😂
Adge
A work of art 😍
Cheers Adam. Some great moments in there. Camping in a painting
Great video Chris, love the way you film it, the angles, all the little details etc👌, what a place to pitch, class views all around, atb Mick 👍
Stunning work Chris and one of your best I would say. This is my local big hill and have been up there many times over the years. I’ve never really felt the love for it though as the walk up is a bit dull, apart from the fact you can see quite a few of the big hitters in Snowdonia from there. I must say though you have made it look far better and a lot more interesting than I’ve ever looked at it. The drone footage over the ridge is quite something. It’s really made me want to go back soon.
Hahaha I’m sorry to do that to you. 🤣
Enjoyed filming it, always great to do the lesser known places
Beautifully shot video mate, as always. Looked like a great camp.
Cheers mate, a great few days
Great vid Chris awesome photography last time I was there the metal chair wasn’t in the shelter though lol
Amazing stuff buddy, Wow!
Theres something spectacular in your video. A stunning portayal of nature and all it has to offer. Beautifully made. Thank you 😊
Your time lapses are breath taking . I admire your patience during 3 days. Both last 2 films are amazing. You would love book I recently got about weather and how it behave written by folk Tristan Gooley from England ( I think) based just on natural observations of clouds , wind, birds etc
I love how nature can be read and predict. Great stuff . Thank you for hard work.
Fantastic! Stopped there a night myself. You captured the essence of the place perfectly!
Cracking spot isn’t it. Cheers Simon
That's looking a very good place for hiking my friend ❤️❤️❤️! Great work as usual! Lot of love and respect from a solo mountain hiker friend from the Hindu Kush Mountains Lower Chitral District of Pakistan!
🇵🇰
Beautiful film Chris, really enjoyed... subscribed 👍
Amazing video what fantastic sky and photography. Beautiful remote location. I regularly walk in more remote areas of wales and this one really appeals to me, definitely going to do after watching this. Thanks for sharing! Best wishes- Adam
Excellent Chris, I hope you stuck a few extra gym weights in your bag to help with the exercise mate 😂 Some beautiful skies and lovely Timelapse’s too 👍
Hahaha almost. That’s my attitude to it. Although, I’ll be honest… I did take a look at some lightweight gear recently 😳
I’m more interested in the volume though… less volume of tents, bags and camping bits…. More cameras, lenses and ridiculous filming equipment 🤪
@@chrishomer sounds good 👍
Superb Chris. A mixed bag but you came away with some really exceptional results. I must say I was thinking about my dear brother and myself and a friend up there back in 2013. Maan, same route walked only we headed in the other direction and did a big loop back to the North side of the mountain. So, many memories. Well, you've made your own and they were a good 3 days. All the best. Mark
Thanks Mark, pleased to bring back some memories with it.
I was eyeing up a few circulars from the top, I’ll be back!
Cheers
@@chrishomer A pleasure Chris. It was a good outing. Yeah, I could see and feel us on that mountain. Aah, lovely. As for the loop head for Moel Ty Uchaf stone circle. If you could get some drone footage of that or sunset shots that would be awesome. That's where we stared from. Peace.
@@WyeExplorer thank you! Will take a good look at a map at some point. Great place
@@chrishomer a pleasure Chris. It has a great vibe. I look forward to seeing what you do.
Class act mate, a masterclass in videography. Such an incredible feeling of peace and solitude in a spectacular location. Love it up Cadair Berwyn. Hows the cold arse from sitting in that chair? 😂
Thanks Martin. Can’t do enough for good video 🤣
Awesome as usual m8, that brought back so many memories of me going up there, the wobbly board on that one stile, the oldest chair in Wales 🤣 last time I was up there that chair was over by the trig point. Was the top stile still non existent and replaced by barb wire by some nob head farmer?
Braver man than I drinking the water from llyn Lluncaws 🤢🤣🤣
Was the top stile in the “T” corner of the fencing near my tent? Last time I was there it was similar, but different. It wasn’t there, but the fencing had had a bodge job. Maybe more about livestock than keeping people out though. I don’t know, but I saw a piece of timber from that style that I think had been chucked off the edge.
The water, hahahaha yes! And lots of it last summer. It was ok, I filtered it, but I wasn’t keen on the look of that algae in there, or whatever it is. I don’t want to look it up and find out 🤪
Superb video 👏👏 I love the timelapses, especially the night one's. Would you think about doing a little tutorial video on how to do these???
Thank Paul, I’d quite like to do that yes. I did try a few things like that in the past, I made a timelapse tutorial of sorts, it’s somewhere way back on my channel on the photography playlist. I recognise my personality is a million miles away from what RUclips likes… 🤣 I’ll be polite to myself… so I’m not sure. I might. I’d like to. Thanks Paul
@@chrishomer Don't stress about your personality, your video/photography does the talking, its a tough skill and some people are better than others, but they may not have your photography skills. Watch Harmen Hoek's videos, he is the best by miles and he doesn't speak at all.
@@paulevans1139 I definitely don’t stress, but I hear I’m best watched back at 2x speed 🤣
Thanks, will take a look
Sheer class, you certainly showed off the Berwyns to their best. Hope no Americans watch this video, they'd probably collapse when they hear your pack weight!😂
Cheers Mark, I almost collapsed a few times myself
how has this only got 1000 views
Thanks. That’s quite a lot for my channel to be fair. Appreciated though
