  • Here is the full interview from my ADE chat with 3LAU titled 'New Opportunities For Artists... NFTS' where we discuss the creative opportunity and the intrinsic value of the new NFT landscape. I connected with Justin Blau a few months ago and have really enjoyed the receptiveness and openness of the community I have found in this entire eco-system so this was a nice opportunity to go one step deeper with an artist who has really paved the way for many of the music world to follow. If you are still unsure what this whole NFT craze is about, this chat may help onboard you a little as I continue to learn and experiment myself with music and visuals in a brand new medium. #RichieHawtin #3lau #NFT #ADE #AmsterdamDanceEvent

3LAU streaming from his house, Richie streaming from the same techno dungeon he's been trapped in for the past 30 years

This is such an interesting discussion. I have been so dumb founded by the whole NFT thing and this helped so much. Ritchie really gets technology and I love his passion! Everything he said makes so much sense

This is all fun and exciting ... but how do we grow food and get clean water to keep us alive in a virtual world?

The only thing that could keep climate chaos from getting worse than it is already going to be would be to cease all economic activity yesteryear. There is a high correlation between economic activity and greenhouse gas emissions which come first from the extraction of those resources from the planet and then their use. Without energy there is no economy. Of course to do that we'd have to remember how our early ancestors survived. How to be human animals amongst the nonhuman animals again.

Everything is all well and good up to the point that the user is able to take proper care of the private key, which is used to access the wallet or the information stored on the blockchain. If it is lost, the user will also lose access to his/her data. Also, there is no restore or retrieval option when it comes to blockchain. This brings a lot of user-oriented risks to blockchain technology.

I've lost things I had on iTunes when the dreaded white screen of death showed up on my iPod. I got a new one and went to find the things I downloaded. Some of it was there, some of it wasn't.

Digital assets are fine as long as they dont make obsolete the real thing. Lets not forget what kind of future we want to build... Connection with people or "disconection" in the digital space. Blue pill or red pill?

With energy issues being what they are, which is peak everything(oil, natural gas, coal, even renewable alternatives are still dependant upon those)electronically generated music may be what will become obsolete, which is unfortunate because I really love music by Richie, Dubfire, Tipper, Bluetech...etc. and the vibe of it. I grew up listening to classic rock, alternative rock, metal, hip hop, and others, but ever since I attended raves in St. Louis, MO in the mid 90's to early 2000's, techno and it's many subgenres have been my go to. It's looking like any musical artist will eventually have to get acoustic instruments for their sounds.

Maybe it's about finding the connection in the digital space. We have evolve past physical assets. I love how Ritchie talks about NFTs bringing back the deeper connection with fans and the culture. The scene exploded and the connections became more distant. Which is so true. If you are an OG raver from the 90s or even early 2000s you know what he is talking about.

I miss the artwork that you'd get with CD's and cassettes. Vinyl was a bit before my time. I did have those little singles records, but not the 45's. I would listen to my older sister's Doors album she had, and my mother's Moody Blues records. The potential for damage seems about the same for all of them(scratches, warping etc...) I still have the Sheet One CD with the Sheet of blotter paper in it. Holding it in my hands gave me a flashback once.

What’s with the huge auditorium-like setup with the massive table? This could have been done in a much smaller room with less echo and reverb. The whole presentation just feels a little over the top to me. We can have real conversations without it looking like we are all going to law school or something lol

2:00 Wrong. What you owe is a certificate showing an http link where a Digital piece of art is supposedly hosted. Nothing else. A link.

It really is sad people are falling for this and spending thousands on it. It’s quite a con, it’s just a way for people to screw over their fans.
