    Cold Waters on Steam:
    store.steampowe...
    Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
    You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

      Aspro and Bergall were both tied up at the seawall at Mare Island after overhauls, 1987-1988 timeframe. You'd come out of drydock a few months ahead of us. Your CO stormed onto our office (barge) one morning to talk to my CO. Your crew had a banner hanging over your brow that said, "THE 'A' TEAM". Your guys had what we judged a bit of an attitude. Our guys had snuck over the night before and defaced your banner to read "THE GAY TEAM". Your CO was pissed. None of us had ever known our CDR Dennis Gibbs to have any sense of humor about anything, ever, but he listened to your CO, sat, back, and his reaction was, "I love it! I fucking LOVE it!" It was the only time I know of he was proud of us.
      No hard feelings, shipmate!

    I love how they use A-6's from USS Nimitz for a picture of rolling thunder, they probably didn't think much of it's markings when they used it

    Holy crap, what map is that?
    By the way, don't hit your own torpedo when you launch it. It will kill you and campaign over.
    This is a good start to the series. Look forward to more Tortuga shenanigans.

      I guess this is my leftover map mod from ages ago, probably my third series, and it still works (haha!). Cold_Waters_Enhanced_Navigation_Map_v1.2 is the file I have.

    nice vid. those mark 37s are the bane of my existence lol i guess i should probably try '68 again for a nice challenge.

    • @TortugaPower
      @TortugaPower  5 лет назад

      It's hard to use them in the given targeting system, without access to a TDC. And the Mk 48s can't catch much. Solution: guide enemy's torpedoes back to them -- it makes for a good show.

    Fantastic, I finish your South China sea campaign the same day you release the first video in this one! Man, it's painful watching those torpedo's pootle along like a granny, hats off to you for hitting anything with them!

      The difference between the 2000 campaign (with an ultra quiet god of war, the Seawolf, and the Mk 48 ADCAPs) and this one (loud subs, terrible ordnance) is staggering!

    Aim for the stern if possible, the closer you can get the torpedo to the drive shaft and screws the easier it is to sink her.

    • @TortugaPower
      @TortugaPower  5 лет назад

      Is that applicable for surface ships as well? I always thought the most vulnerable part of a (surface) vessel was the middle of the ship, and particularly for surface ships, at keel there.

    @tonytavary3388 5 лет назад

    Yeah, slow torps with small warheads. Don't expect one hit kills with most enemies. On the other hand, the old school ship killer torps will remove the bottom of a ship (if you can manage to hit it).

      We'll be trying our luck with both throughout the series, so it'll be a funny game of "which one is less badly-suited for this situation".

    It's kind of a pity the UI is exactly the same in this 60's version, the 80's version, and the 2000's version. It would have been a nice touch to make it reflect the times a bit. 60's subs weren't overly digital yet, I imagine.

    the USS ASPRO IS NAMED AFTER A FISH of the zingel genus found in the upper RHONE RIVER in france ,, lol

    • @consubandon
      @consubandon 3 года назад

      I was on Bergall, SSN-667, the competition. We knew Aspro was named after a licensed proctologist. Either that or a well-paid, gay gigolo.
      But, hey, somebody came to our boat one day trying to pronounce "Bur-ZHAHL", in French, thinking we'd been named after some French general (probably one who ate fish from the Rhone River), so no hard feelings!

    Hello. This new vid of yours had me chewing on my knuckles at certain points lol. Ive a feeling this campaign is going to be what i call a "McDonalds" -----"Im loving it" lol. Thank you. Quick question. i know i have asked this before but the era has changed and i thought that maybe this would to.Would going head on helps the enemy torp loose solution as in movie Red October or is that Hollywood thinking?

    • @TortugaPower
      @TortugaPower  4 года назад

      What happened in Red October, is that the torpedo acquired, but it hit the submarine prior to having its explosive charge primed. There is a minimum distance a torpedo must travel before arming, for safety reasons (you don't want it exploding 50 feet after it launches, or your sub is in trouble).
      I don't think any of this is modeled in CW.

      Yes, it's true. Did I say that even in this video? At some point (maybe in a different series?) I've made a blanket disclaimer that I will use these two interchangeably by mistake (an error, but a tough habit to break).
