Movie was complex. Robot wife has memories of thr original? Why rebellion? Were all bots mistreated? Only women bots? People lose husbands too.
My guess is a good chunk of the wives may have come from abusive partners who killed them in fits of rage and those partners used the Wifelike company to recreate them to control. A real loving husband wouldn't want a robot, it's not the same.
