A beautiful rendition! The words and lyrics were written by Valarie Rodway. She was my second standard teacher at Saint Ambrose Anglican School. She entered this anthem as a national anthem for Guyana when it became independent in 1966. Her anthem was not chosen due to politics. She died a few years later.
Thank you for that bit of history I'm glad you had the privilege to know her. I remembered singing these songs in the late 70s and 80s at primary school, even High school. My primary school aged children never heard them.

When will the TRUTH BEAUTY and LOVE comes from WITHIN the people of Guyana? It is called INTEGRETY, KINDNESS and RESPONSIBILE BEHAVIOUR. Not corruption, crimes, racism, ungratefulness, dishonesty, etc, etc. Not in songs, but in deeds.
What? Guyana is facing the Atlantic,we are suppose to be facing the Caribbean sea,as many people are saying and,this disturbs me and I cant sleep now. How can a Caribbean country not be in the Caribbean sea,Now I am very disturbed,I am a very concerned Guyanese.Please tell me we are in the beautiful Caribbean as I have always been told.,I cannot sleep on till I know the truth.
Our culture and language is the same or similar to most Caribbean countries so we are considered both a South American (location) and Caribbean (culture/language) country.

Guyana & Surinam are both South American nations which are both members of Caricom (Cari-Com = Caribbean Community), simply because South America cannot do anything for them. Guyana being the only English speaking nation in SA, & Surinam being the only Dutch. Both their curses are independence. They no longer “belonged” to mother England or Netherlands. So they both had join Caricom.
