  • The Dalmatian is a breed of large dog, noted for its unique black or liver spotted coat and mainly used as a carriage dog in its early days. Its roots trace back to Croatia and its historical region of Dalmatia. Today, it is a popular family pet, and many dog enthusiasts enter Dalmatians into kennel club competitions.
Character: Cheerful, sociable, cordial, intelligent and affectionate.
Particularity: The Walt Disney adaptation of the novel 101 Dalmatians contributed to the popularity of the breed. Dalmatians make excellent mothers and usually have six to eight puppies. -

These dogs are unique. Beautiful, active, loyal and DEMANDING. We do raw diet, ZERO health issues (raw chicken, turkey, spinach, sweet potatoes, steel oats). Amazingly, they study and know your schedule. Or should I say “their” schedule. Ours are walked 3 times a day but also have free run of an acre of fenced wooded property. Amazing hunters, agile and intelligent. I don’t think they know they are dogs.....very clean, no smell but are heavy shedders. These dogs are poetry in motion in full run. Personality Plus! Such characters! Very protective of family. Love them!

My Dalmatian seems to have skin allergy to dry foods from pet store specifically for Dalmatian.
Would a raw diet help ?

Thanks for your comment. It’s my first Dalmatian, she’s 8 weeks. I do Farm Fresh Pet Foods down here in Florida. It’s semi raw because I warm it up a bit.
Question. How do you do the steel oats? What time of day as well?
Now I was giving her alkaline water but reading up on articles I see it’s not wise due to the high uric acid levels. What kind of water do you supply yours?

Dalmatians are the enigmas of the dog world. Crazy but hyper intelligent. Loving but often aloof. Mischievous but well mannered. Daft as a brush but terribly serious. Yet always, always, utterly adorable. Our dilly dally is called Vince and is the star of his own dog yomp videos. Have a look: ruclips.net/video/MlVY1e1FqPg/видео.html

This is a great video. Away with all the (cute) videos about Dalmatian’s. I own one and he is the boss. Great video. NOT just a random pet. Unlike most breads! The diet is crazy complex but not as expensive as most larger dogs as long can prepare the food your self (cooking) because they usually don’t eat as much as a large dog. Most larger beef bones (not flat to make it easy to push out of training cage) will keep interest for about 1 to 2 hours at a time but in comparison keeping a Dalmatian in a cage for more that 1 to 2 hours at a time is a death sentence to all of your valuable low hanging fruit (shoes, clothing and jewelry if it’s in reach). It can also trigger the infamous “Dalmatian separation anxiety” in which is the end of good furniture in your home. My dear friend, as much as the bog is cute, it is nothing to play with unless you have money to spare. They must stay up on shots and worm/flee preventing is a must (cost: $42+ $52 per month). This is why it is actually worth getting $50 per month for dog insurance. The diet of Dalmatians are complicated to say the least. It seems as if my dog can only do pure protein and not heavy. This means that muscle and not organ meat is mandatory. Caution: A lot of “treats” are in some way made with the cheapest parts of the animal (organ meat/gizzards). Like children, please don’t let them eat from everybody’s hand (even if you are in a pet store). This is a very active bread. Is good for small/young and established older families with a little extra income per month due to the Dietary restrictions, potential monthly medical cost, consistent high energy level and the time REQUIRED to spend with this bread. You do realize that all of the descriptions and breeding comments you state are absolutely for shit. They do not a Dalmatian make! Love comes with many faults and variations from the "standard." Breeders are the number one problem with many of the horrendous health problems we see in the Dalmatian and all other breeds today. I enjoyed the video but certainly would not take any of this crap seriously. My best Dalmatian was a rescue, probably a breeder throw-a-way, with epilepsy and other health problems. He was a love and the most gorgeous and picturesque Dal I've ever seen.
