It’s kind of insane how many paths in HOI4 could be made bearable with conditional peace deals but they just never get changed. It’s made more insane when you realise they’ve added multiple of these they’ve added in recent updates. Finland has one for holding Leningrad, Argentina for holding the falklands. Why they can’t go back and tweak these paths like they’ve done with other old focus trees is confusing. It would make playing these old trees so much more bearable
Okay but imagine being a Spanish soldier in this. You hear you're finally taking independence back from the Soviets, you fight all the way across the eastern front into basically Siberia and win. You think, "I can finally go home." And then your commanding officer informs you that you now have to fight your way back home westwards because the higher ups decided to break ties with the Germans.
Would be really awkward if you’re a Spanish commander hanging out with your German allies at a command post somewhere on the line. “Colonel Vargas, telegram from Madrid for you!” “Sorry Hans, just let me go read this…” “No problem Carlos. I’m sure it’s just telling you when you can go back to…why are you pointing your gun at me?” “Sorry amigo, we’ve pulled an Italy.”
It actually trips me up how this man can make a career out of playing HoI 4 and 90 % of his content is vanilla. When one reaches a video series called "Focus Tree A-Z" it may be truely time to question why mods are almost exclusively being played in November on this channel. It's incredible that his videos are somehow still entertaining, but damn...some Kaiserreich or Old world Blues would really make things a lot spicier.
I tried doing this focus path before and I won the civil war without signing my soul away to the Soviets so I never became a puppet. There was nothing left to do in the focus tree because it revolves entirely around breaking free of the Soviets...
If you concentrate all the forces in the north into Pais Vasco, especially if you built a couple of forts there you can force the Nationalists to have a Carlist uprising.

Use a randomiser to select a nation with the generic focus tree Then install one of the many improved generic focus tree/expanded generic focus tree mods, and form whatever formable nation is available And eventually defeat a faction if you have time or it was too easy

When playing against the Franco path, it’s a good idea to hold onto the north as long as you can, since they can only prevent a carlist revolt through occupying the north

You don’t have to become a soviet puppet if you go democratic. It only happens if you decide to take the Soviet aid focuses. The problem is that you then lose out on a good portion of your focus tree because you chose not to become a puppet.
For nostalgia november: play TWR! The Hungarian focus tree is great in that, but you can play the US of A/red Germany, or one of the russian states (Crimea is sick). I would just really like to see the mod on the channel again!
5:45 Honestly if you take the OTL actions of The allies into consideration a spain breaking free of communist control would probably side with the axis, if for the simple fact that allies and soviets were nominally on the same side. I doubt they’d participate in the war against the allies without being attacked first though
