yeah I dont get the point of such products. I mean cool that they exist and sell, to push technology hah but do those people buy the newest and best products every year when they come out? no, so i dont get it.
If you want the best gaming CPU this is definitely it. I'm hopeful Intel can sort out performance on their Core Ultra 200 CPUs in the near future, but they aren't going to touch this for gaming.
Thanks!! Not a problem, check out our Ryzen 7600 or 9600X build guides instead! Or our best budget build guides. All linked in the "Build Lists" playlist in the video description!
Hey! I'm currently in the process of building an entirely new PC (1060 + I5 7600 served me well), and I am going to go with the 9800X3D if the prices of the 7800X3D are not going to drop massively after its successors release. I will be pairing it with a 7800XT, and I'm looking forward to all of the people shouting at me to put my money into a better GPU. I won't. I play Rust.
Not even the worst idea tbh bc in a few years you can just upgrade your gpu and be pretty much fine, 9800x3d will be king for at least 2 years and even if it’s dethroned it’s not like it will be worthless meanwhile it still allows the fastest gpus to be the bottleneck
Man there is nothing I want more than a nice looking white board that has at least 3 ssd slots, 3 pcie slots ... and..... A DAMN OPTICAL AUDIO PORT!!! my b-550f from almost 5 years ago is the perfect motherboard in my opinion, it's just that there is no am5 equivalent that isn't 500$+ there are a few boards with a lot of ssd and pcie slots, but man, all the boards with a toslink audio port cost way too much Jason, Do you know of any boards under 300 that fit those descriptions? 3+ Ssd slots, 3+ pcie slots, and an optical audio port?
FYI, at DDR5-8000 you should have the FCLK at 2000MHz because in 2:1 mode that equals a 1:1 ratio between the memory controller and the infinity fabric. This way you get lower latency, so DDR5-8000 is quite a bit faster than DDR5-6000, unless it's not actually fully stable, because you also need quite a good motherboard to be able to run 8000. (To be clear, it's still not worth the extra $100-$150 for the DDR5-8000 kit)
Good morning Jason /Mrs. Jason, Crew and Kitties! . . . . this is my new cpu (9800x3d) for my retirement build!! just gotta wait for the upcoming gpu's . . . i'm sure it will smoke my 2018 3900x 😆

Been waiting for this one! Great vid as usual. As nice as this CPU is Jason really has me wondering if it's really even necessary and $$$ could be better spent on the GPU, especially if Microcenter drops the price of their 7600X3D bundle.
Hey Jason. Could you do like a quick recomendation on a future video, on portable cases? Like small ones, or some with handles or somethin. The X870 Pro RS has a really good price on it right now for anyone looking to step up from the 6XX series, and based on HW unboxed's x870(E) benchmark, stands relatively high in most tests compared to the 500$+ boards
Thanks for this! Always enjoy your content and it's helped me with my own builds in the past :) I'm debating updating from a Ryzen 5 7600x - I have a Fractal Terra Jade build so I'm a bit concerned about cooling - I have a Thermalright AXP90-X47 42.58 CFM CPU Cooler. I also have a 120mm Noctua fan at the base of the Fractal case. I'm pairing the CPU with a 7900XT which I may also switch to a 4080 Super if the 50 series pushes prices down enough.
If you like that board and can grab it, go for it. Only 2 audio capacitors for a $349 board isn't my favorite, though if you don't need the onboard audio it does have a lot of connectivity. X670E tomahawk on sale right now for $239 with very similar features.
How do you think, is there any reason to wait for 9900-9950X3D CPUs, can they have much better gaming performance without previous bugs with dual CCD design? :) I'm on i7-4790K, this time I am upgrading 100% :D
Great Video! What do u think regarding the new 5000 series from Nivdia? If im gonna buy now a 9800X3D with an 870e Motherboard, do i need to buy a new motherboard for the new nvidia graphic cards?
i must admit, i just cant keep up with the current hardware, i have just upgraded to the 7800X3D CPU , but i should just be able to put in a 9800X3d straight into my new rig and sell my 7800X3D, its amazing how much the 7800X3D has increased in value over the last few weeks since i purchased it for £300. its insane! thx for all your constant information, as a non pc tech expert you really helped my out with my choices for an ever changing industry.
Dude sell it. You won't lose your money but be fast because it's around 400 plus new so for used you can go 390s. But again do you need to spend extra money for the 9800x3d? Might not be worth it
Thank you for this! Im totally on board now. A question though, is it true that this CPU with an AMD motherboard will have no issues with any RAM installed? The one I have now with a 7800X3D had a few issues with the auto-overclock features.
Hey Jason great vid ... I plan on using a 4070ti super, along with gaming would this be a good combo for stream and editing as well? Thanks for your knowledge keep spreading it.
Hello! Would the Asrock PG B650E Riptide work well with 9800X3D and is the motherboard considered premium for the build? I'm still between getting either the Asrock PG B650E Riptide or the MSI Mag B650 Tomahawk, thank you!
The Riptide has a Gen 5 GPU slot, while the Tomahawk has upgraded audio. Both have fairly good USB features. Those are the only differences. I'm still not sold on the value of Gen 5 GPU slots ... but I could see it for a 9800X3D build. Tomahawk X670E is currently $239 if you want the best of both.
Good in games but is it good for mixed use compared to intel? I'm trying to work out what to pair with a 7900 xtx 4080 super or 4070 super depending on sales, nearly all $2500 usd builds I find are 6+ months old, so hard to find info on anything but fps in games lately.
12:50 "You don't need a separate drive for the OS" Say it louder for the people in the back Jason! I've been telling them to stop buying several drives when building a new PC, oppose to just getting one single big-one for 5 years now straight!
I know I'm purchasing the 9800X3D first thing Thursday morning as I already have a X870P MB and 64GB 6400MT/s RAM. Not a bad upgrade for less than $1,000 coming from AM4. Probably upgrade to 8300MT/s RAM If it's beneficial.
Yes if you want to manually tune it, but there's zero gains there with the 9800X3D so it's no upside and potential instability downside. That is why I don't recommend it. If you know what you're doing, can make sense with Ryzen 7000 and 9000 non-X3D parts.
I'm really torn between building with a 9800X3D with a 7900XT or saving some money on the CPU end and going with a 7600X3D with a 7900XTX at around the same price. Or just yolo it and go 9800X3D with the 7900XTX :).
As far as I know at the moment there's no GPU that has even come close to a saturated PCIe gen 4 slot (not even the 4090). PCIe gen 5 has double that bandwidth. We don't know what the future holds of course but I think at least for the next gen gpu's you should be fine especially if you don't want to shell out the cash for a 5090, 6090 or 7090 card.
Any recommendations on finance companies for a pc? Don't have 2200 at hand but I don't mind paying stretch payments either. Need to upgrade my whole system as it's been almost 15 years and parts are starting to fail. Figure I go all the way. I want to get setup with a nice new system and not have to worry about upgrading for a long while again or at least until I get a better job.
i like the 216 too lian li are just nice but i think the torrent is what i would go for if i really could buy its not that much more , id rather buy one second hand and even put new fans maybe
thank you thank you thank you so much. i was planning on buying the 9800X3D and motherboard in full and use zip for a high end gpu but zip said nope so this came in so clutch for budget options
Been looking for an upgrade for my pc. Got a 4080 super and I’m still using my nearly 5 year old Ryzen 9 3900x. Was looking at 7800x3d, curious how much better 9800x3d is. I see it on sale now for around $700
9800X3D goes on sale tomorrow, so keep an eye out. That 3900X is definitely a bottleneck on the 4080 S. A 5700X3D isn't a bad option at $200 if you can't make the jump into AM5.
The new gaming king but the cost of entry is quite high. The MSRP, inclusive of local taxes, is around the same price as the most affordable 7950X in my region. Retailer margins will make it even higher. I think I'll wait to see if the prices will drop.
I don't know... Mr Bear looked a little sus when you started talking about the cooling for the CPU. I think he called BS on you Jason. Keep at them flexes with the 4090's to prepare for the 5090's coming next year.
My build: Case: Be Quiet Shadow Base FX 800 White Memory: G.skill Trident Z5 Royal NEO RGB DDR-8000mhz 48gb Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice motherboard CPU Cooler: Be qiet Light Loop 360mm white CPU: Waiting for the release of 9800X3D NVME: Crucial T705 SSD - 2TB PSU: Seasonic Vertex GZ 1200W - white (sadly not a lot of white PSUs) NO GPU, use an old one. Not worth upgrading when new ones are just few months away, plus i want to take advantage of the PCI 5.0 capability. So i will be GPU limited, plan is gaming at 1440p, dont care about 4k. Oh yeah pricy, yeah but i haven't upgraded my old pc in 4 years. So it's time for a new, was hoping for both new GPU/CPU to release this fall like the last times but nope.
If you are buying a 500$ CPU penny pinching on this or that component should not be a concern. If it is you are doing something wrong. Especially since you should be pairing it with a GPU worth 700$+ most likely. If the money is such a concern, buy a different CPU entirely. Or save up a bit more, buy used from a reputable source like Jawa, shop Black Friday deals etc. Just don't build a system that will make you upgrade more often by being cheap up front on the build. And if you are doing a new build make certain your Mobo can support pcie5 for the GPU as the 5xxx series upcoming soon will need that support for full utilization. The B650 boards only have it as "optional", so beware! (Those tiny red underlines are so easy to miss!) So many people forget this when giving advice or fail to notice it when doing a build.
Thanks!! Check out our best PC case 2024 video! My top pick right now is the Okinos Aqua 3 for $59 (I think the white one is $65), or if you want a more traditional mATX front airflow I like the Bitfenix Nova Mesh for $59.
NH-D15 would be massive overkill and it's expensive, but if you already own it then it will work totally fine. X870 is really for production users that need tons of rear IO and extra M.2 (4+ NVME drives). If that is you, then go for it!
@PCBuilderChannel Yea I already got the Noctua NH-D15. I was already looking at the MSI Tomahawk boards as is. If I can save money by getting away with the 650 or 670 boards than I'll do that instead since Im needing a 4TB ssd
I just bought Ryzen 7 7800x3d last month for my build & I haven’t opened it yet. Idk if I should sell it to buy the 9800x3d?… ugh lol Do u think it’s worth it?
Don't do that. Never mix and match kits. And avoid 4 sticks on Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs for gaming especially. See our best RAM for gaming 2024 video for more.
The 9800X3D goes on sale tomorrow for $479, so that would be my recommendation for a high end build. For lower budget builds, the Ryzen 7600 or 9600X really make a lot of sense given the huge price gap and we have build guides for both on the channel.
just waiting to see the microcenter bundle deals. i want to upgrade my 5800x3d and give it to my kid, then the younger kids gets the 5600x instead of the 3600

Anybody could tell me if the b650 aorus elite ax (the v1, not the v2) is good? I got it at 180 long time ago and don’t know if i should change it to the v2 or both work fine

@@閉園するさらにパワーアップdepends on when the motherboard was produced. If it's produced before the CPU came out or around the same time you definitely need to flash the motherboard. If it's produced way after let's say at least 6 months the chance will be high that it'll work natively but it's never fully guaranteed and depends on the manufacturer.
Can someone help me Im choosing between 9800x3d or 7950x3d, I love gaming and planning on doing programming and video editing. Is 9800x3d okay for those task or should I stick on buying 7950x3d
@PCBuilderChannel Yeah looking for both will it have similar performance to 7950x3d when it comes to production since I dont think those are too heavy tasks?
HWUB had a good explanation for this, check out their video for more. Turns out the 3D VCache does help production if you don't have to limit frequency. The 2nd gen VCache is quite an accomplishment.

TEAMGROUP T-Force G70 PRO 4tb or Western Digital SN850x 4tb ?
The best ram AND the sweet spot is 6400 MTs and set it to 1 ratio with fabric 2133 speed...
Yes if you want to manually tune it, but there's zero gains there with the 9800X3D so it's no upside and potential instability downside. That is why I don't recommend it. If you know what you're doing, can make sense with Ryzen 7000 and 9000 non-X3D parts.
Great video! Time for a new build? Lemme think about it... 🤔😉✌🏻
YAS!!!
I'm really torn between building with a 9800X3D with a 7900XT or saving some money on the CPU end and going with a 7600X3D with a 7900XTX at around the same price. Or just yolo it and go 9800X3D with the 7900XTX :).
Thanks Jason. For those of us without 4090 money: 4070 Ti Super or 7900 xtx ? For 9800x3d of course
IMO 7900 XTX unless you are super into ray tracing. It's way faster than the 4070 Ti Super.
I got the msi mag forge 120a airflow for 63 euros. Very good deal as it came with 6 rgb fans
Question: Do you think it's worth it switching from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D with the 5090 in mind for the future?
Nah its like a 5% perfromance dif. Save your money for the $2000 5090 xD
@@crusadiamaximus755 No problem. Will sell the 4090 soon.^^
Are PCIe 5 slots on the mobo important for future GPU upgrades? Planning to keep my 4070 for a while but i want futureproofing.
Thank you.
That's good to know that I don't have to have a separate M.2 storage for windows anymore thanks bud... I'll jus go for a bigger storage then
What is the minimum cpu I should buy for a RX 7900 GRE?
If I am going to game at 2k and 4k not 1080p, yet also want to do some content creation, should I just save $180 and get a 9700x instead?
thank you thank you thank you so much. i was planning on buying the 9800X3D and motherboard in full and use zip for a high end gpu but zip said nope so this came in so clutch for budget options
You're welcome! Glad I could help!!! Check out our Ryzen 7600 or 9600X build guides! My daily driver is a Ryzen 7600.
If i didn't really need to upgrade i would definitely get this cpu 😂 i can wait another year or two
Been looking for an upgrade for my pc.
I need help putting together a $750 itx build. I am not sure where to start besides the case lol
Im going for the 9800X3D + 4080 Super combo :D
Upgrading from a i9-10900KF paired with a 3070
Nice upgrade!
I'm going for the same combo, upgrading from a R7 3700x and a 2070 Super
@@HHHHBK718 Nice! We are both going to experience a huge performance boost. I cant wait
The new gaming king but the cost of entry is quite high. The MSRP, inclusive of local taxes, is around the same price as the most affordable 7950X in my region. Retailer margins will make it even higher. I think I'll wait to see if the prices will drop.
Yes the price is much higher than the other available options, so consider a Ryzen 7600 or 9600X if that helps you get a bigger GPU.
is it worth upgrading from my r9 7900x if i have a 4080?
Thank you Mr. Bear, Waffles, and Lisa 😂
Now we wait for the 7800x3d prices go down.
I don't know... Mr Bear looked a little sus when you started talking about the cooling for the CPU. I think he called BS on you Jason.
Keep at them flexes with the 4090's to prepare for the 5090's coming next year.
Mr. Bear had a talk with me afterwards. He wants me to work on my delivery :)
x870e work to boot without needing an older cpu to update bios for? I hope so...
My build:
Case: Be Quiet Shadow Base FX 800 White
Memory: G.skill Trident Z5 Royal NEO RGB DDR-8000mhz 48gb
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro Ice motherboard
CPU Cooler: Be qiet Light Loop 360mm white
CPU: Waiting for the release of 9800X3D
NVME: Crucial T705 SSD - 2TB
PSU: Seasonic Vertex GZ 1200W - white (sadly not a lot of white PSUs)
NO GPU, use an old one.
Hi, I love your videos, Can you recommend me a good budget white micro atx case under 70$?
Thanks!! Check out our best PC case 2024 video! My top pick right now is the Okinos Aqua 3 for $59 (I think the white one is $65), or if you want a more traditional mATX front airflow I like the Bitfenix Nova Mesh for $59.
Can I pair 9800X 3D with rtx 3080 ? Currently on 5800x3d
Where to get one? I don't see it listed
No X870 / X870E boards for the 9800x3d? And would a Noctua NH-D15 be a good cooler for this CPU?
NH-D15 would be massive overkill and it's expensive, but if you already own it then it will work totally fine. X870 is really for production users that need tons of rear IO and extra M.2 (4+ NVME drives). If that is you, then go for it!
@PCBuilderChannel Yea I already got the Noctua NH-D15. I was already looking at the MSI Tomahawk boards as is. If I can save money by getting away with the 650 or 670 boards than I'll do that instead since Im needing a 4TB ssd
Is it ok to pair with 4060 now and upgrade later to 5000 series GPU next year
If that's what you want to do, will certainly work.
I just bought Ryzen 7 7800x3d last month for my build & I haven’t opened it yet. Idk if I should sell it to buy the 9800x3d?… ugh lol
Do u think it’s worth it?
I'm getting one tomorrow at Micro Center
Woohoo! :) Upgrade time!
For the almighty 9800X3D and the algorithm
and the cats
Is it possible to combine two of DDR5 RAM with 32gb at 5200 MHz and other two with 32gb at 6000 MHz ?
Don't do that. Never mix and match kits. And avoid 4 sticks on Ryzen 7000/9000 CPUs for gaming especially. See our best RAM for gaming 2024 video for more.
Drink challenge, take a drink every time he says Ryzen 9800X3D. Level impossible
Since it's quite expensive, and 7800x3d is out of stock, which AMD CPU is a good alternative?
The 9800X3D goes on sale tomorrow for $479, so that would be my recommendation for a high end build. For lower budget builds, the Ryzen 7600 or 9600X really make a lot of sense given the huge price gap and we have build guides for both on the channel.
@@PCBuilderChannel what about GPU, is the 4070 ti super a good choice to with 9800x3d? Maybe I'll consider buying it after all
@@AlesMole4070ti super is the absolute minimum. Any lower than that go with a cheaper CPU and get a better GPU.
just waiting to see the microcenter bundle deals. i want to upgrade my 5800x3d and give it to my kid, then the younger kids gets the 5600x instead of the 3600
My biggest take-away from this channel is that 1/2 of the budget goes to GPU and have a minimum of 1.3k bucks for gaming PCs.
I am in romania tell me where I can buy the 9800x3d cose is no shop available
I really need help to spec a DCS VR build. Sooooo many confusing opinions out there but they’re all over $3000. Can you please help me out because I value your opinion. I’m in Australia
I'd love to help, but VR is an area that I just don't know enough about to confidently offer recommendations.
@ How about a 1440 build? That would be fine for 1080 VR.
Anybody could tell me if the b650 aorus elite ax (the v1, not the v2) is good? I got it at 180 long time ago and don’t know if i should change it to the v2 or both work fine
Do i need to bios flash for 9800x3d if i buy 'gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 Motherboard' after 1 year of the cpu launch ? Will the bios be updated by the manufacturer ? (I got no ups, don't want one & electricity doesn't go offline often but still don't wanna take a risk)
Yes you will need to flash the bios it just came out. Its easy to do though we go over it in our "how to build a pc" video
No I'm meant after 1 year (currently saving for the new built)
Sorry to ping u again
@@閉園するさらにパワーアップdepends on when the motherboard was produced. If it's produced before the CPU came out or around the same time you definitely need to flash the motherboard. If it's produced way after let's say at least 6 months the chance will be high that it'll work natively but it's never fully guaranteed and depends on the manufacturer.
Can someone help me Im choosing between 9800x3d or 7950x3d, I love gaming and planning on doing programming and video editing. Is 9800x3d okay for those task or should I stick on buying 7950x3d
I'd go 9800X3D for a combo gaming production build. If production is your main focus check out our 9950X build guide
@PCBuilderChannel Yeah looking for both will it have similar performance to 7950x3d when it comes to production since I dont think those are too heavy tasks?
Put one ☝️ finger in the air for Intel bc they down really bad at the moment
Sending them good wishes to get their act together
why does every mobo seem to have wifi on board? thx for the vid.
Would the pc work if I waited to get the gpu when the 5090 comes out (this is my first pc)
Yes for sure. Black Friday can be a good time to pick up other parts, but I don't expect the 9800X3D to sell for below MSRP anytime soon.
Ok thanks. I am getting my pc at microcenter so I believe they will come with a bundle thatll make it cheaper@@PCBuilderChannel
seems that AMD use much better chiplets then for 9700x when productivity results are over 9700x or 7700x
HWUB had a good explanation for this, check out their video for more. Turns out the 3D VCache does help production if you don't have to limit frequency. The 2nd gen VCache is quite an accomplishment.
drink every time he says ryzen nanana3d
2:00 😆

32 gb RAM in such a build? nah never
I play RAM heavy games and I sit at about 80-90% usage with my 64gb already
wait where can i buy it?
