Great video! I appreciate the explanations and different use scenarios. 👌🏼 In the example with the 0-coast, what are you sequencing it with, and where are the effects in the signal chain?
Thank you! I was sequencing it via midi with the Empress ZOIA but this could be any MIDI or CV sequencer, it’s just what I had to hand. The 0 coast was recorded dry using the Canvas and then I added some Valhalla Vintage Verb in the box on an effects bus.
Thanks! Yes and no. It’s good practice to use a reamping box to match the impedance of the pedals but you can technically just send a low signal out of your DAW. Worth experimenting with.
Can I use canvas like that to make sansamp GT2 to works well with amp . Guitar ->sansamp gt2-> canvas->fender blues junior front in, is this can make sansamp gt2 sounds correctly?
So I loved this video but think I’m a dummy. I mostly use an Iridium like the ACS1 direct into my interface for recording at the moment. Why would I run the Canvas in between the two?
Exactly the same question I have. It’s maybe a couple meters of cables at max, why wouls the sound deteriorate if I simply go ACS1/Iridium into the interface? Would be great to hear the audio difference between the two setups (with/without the Walrus)
Ok, so, I’ll answer why you might want to run a DI in between, but I can’t answer why you need a $250 one, when you can buy a DI or two for significantly less. 1. Balanced output (using XLR) reduces noise. 2. A lot of interfaces can’t actually handle outputs from 1/4” jacks coming from pedals. They start to clip really low. But with XLR you can preserve the sound and avoid clipping. 3. This is more necessary for live playing to plug in to FOH.
@@baseboardmatt My thoughts exactly. "This has everything except..." Still, I'm always happy to see any demo that's useful & not another tube screamer.
cool! you know your stuff. If I use a amp sim pedal like UAFX dream 65 directly in an audio interface+daw; is this canvas useful? which mode (line isolation?) should I use`?
Line isolator mode is what Walrus recommend for amp sim pedals like the dream. It’ll turn your unbalanced signal into a balanced one, this can help with noise inference and signal integrity depending on the run length of your cabling. The line isolator uses a low impedance transformer rather than a DI high impedance one. If this is a newer concept to you I’d definitely recommend doing some light reading on it, it’s interesting albeit quite nerdy
@@TUNNELOFREVERB thanks! I mainly work in a studio, with an audio interface, so long cables is not an issue. And I fear my RME babyface has unbalanced inputs (Hi-z). So I guess your explanation (thank you) implies that this walrus canvas won't add anything for me?
maybe it hit my ears wrong. i have a mixing desk in my living room. 460w CSL Stereo power and Event 8" monitors. Its too flat and compressed and processed sounding for me. maybe if that's what you're going for. maybe do something other than this like play some rock music with it. just yuck. sorry guys its all subjective.
I’m sure you know that audio is compressed on RUclips? And it’s too flat compared to what exactly? There were no comparisons in the video,so I don’t know what you’re comparing it too or how you would measure such a comparison. It’s ok to not understand something, quite another to make daft statements about it
Hey man i know this is old but have you had chance possibly to use the diso+? If so could you tell me which one you prefer. I dont gig so the di im not sure if i need. Isolator yes to clean up my ampless rig noise.
@@TUNNELOFREVERB oh ok. Have you noticed any difference in your signal when using the canvas and not as a comparison? Does the isolation work to clean up the signal a lot?
Can you run two guitars through this for recording/live performances? Or would 2 mono boxes be the way?
Super video, clearly explained, thank you!
Can you just run mono in Mono out? Using the left in and out?
Yes
What would happen if you didn't use it? What problem is it solving? Sry, I'm a bit dim.
Hello there, when using the ACS1 to canvas, do you still have your thru out to amplifier?

does it make any difference when plugging straight into a daw?!
Why is there a -20db loss in DI mode? Do all DIs do this or is this just the way the canvas was designed?
Just came across your video. Great stuff. In the outboard effects example is it necessary to use a reamping box if your interface has 1/4” outs?

Wow. Love the tunes.

Wish it had a phase invert for one side… otherwise it’s pretty handy

That jam in the beginning is tasty
thanks!
Beautiful playing. Very cool
Can I use this canvas stereo even if I'm running in mono using my analog pedal board ??
You could still get the stereo and use just one side of it in mono

I haven’t used the diso+ I’m afraid, I’m still using the canvas all the time for recording and it works great though.
