Just back from the airfield. 7 members did fly today. We lost 3 gears, damaged 1 plane, and lost 1.
And we had so much fun we decided to give it another try tomorrow.
That’s the right mentality! Have fun!
@@TailHeavyProductions I took 3 planes to the RC field: an old beater for my son, a 3D plane for me and a new jet. The Jet was fine, but I overshot the landing and ripped off the gear in the long grass. The 3D plane overheated and came down in a pile of parts, and my son's favorite plane lost the elevator servo. We had so much fun with the other pilots that it didn't even matter. I glued the gear back on, sorted my 3D plane with a bigger ESC, and replaced my son's elevator servo. All three are ready to fly again!
I live in So Cal. once a year I would drive to Vegas and fly from Bennett field. As I tested planes, I usually took 6 or 7 junk planes to fly and maybe 4 would make the return trip. I would usually crash or give them away.
Breaking a prop is like the airplane equivalent of a bloody nose: you're gonna wanna sit down at the bench for a bit, but you can be back in the game today
Would love to see company’s like Great Planes get back to letting me build my own planes. Companies think that people just want to fly RTF and ARF but a lot of us want to have a hobby when it’s raining too.
I agree but unfortunately I think sales numbers told them that. The want it now generation prefers ARF's.
I do like the RTFs but I would love to see more kits for foam planes so I could have something to throw my electronics into after I wear out or outgrow the RTF/ BnF
Back when I flew a lot, I would scratch build. I could modify it as i was building to get the performance I wanted. plus, I don't have to worry about some Chinese build quality.
@@highlo3517 I think your comment just made me realize that BnF and RTF are made to not be worked on or modified, because now that I think about it, the older foam and balsa planes were all fairly standard making them easy to repair or modify... Now they use different materials and I don't even know what type of glue will work, and that's only if I can actually find a similar material to make the repair.

@@Wooskii1 Good business practice. oh you crashed it. well, we don't sell parts and it's not repairable. buy a new one. I will just stick to scratch building. I've had 1 ARF, won't do it again. I fly an uproar, when I got out of high school I was given a Dazzler ARF. uproar and dazzler are the same. But the build quality on the dazzler was completes shit. won't do it again.
I stopped flying RC in the mid-late eighties because life got in the way. Back then the #1 change I'd like to see were fewer gate keepers and self-appointed RC-police. Hearing "it will never fly" is still an issue saddens me.
Come to a Flite Fest. We literally will fly a trash can.
Now big gov is ruining the hobby because it is so easy for the crazies to weaponize RC aircraft.

When I saw the first to put a gun on an RC helicopter in an gun range I knew were this leads.
With drones being weapon No.#1 in Ukraine its only a matter of time to have the first terrorist to use RC.
Seemed they were eigther to stupid or to prouwd, but a drone ist actually a poor manns cruise missile.
All these points apply to just about any hobby, not just RC it doesn't matter if you are a woodworker, a photographer or a competitive shooter everyone knows that if you buy the latest and greatest you will instantly take home all the prizes. Don't fall for it folks.
Another lie i think is you need an acrobatic plane to have fun. Sometimes its nice to just to fly a 3 channel glider around
I have 3D planes and helis from 180mm to 700mm but I fly an Apprentice to chill out and relax

The best airplane I have ever built was a depron foamie biplane, homemade with xacto knife and hot glue. It was underpowered and broke in half on the first landing but hey, it was flyiing so sweet. My very own biplane design. No amount of money beats that. I enjoyed that so much.
The most important thing to remember is that it's YOUR HOBBY! Not anyone else's. Doesn't matter what you fly as long as it's done safe it shouldn't be an issue.

If only every plane was designed with the care and propriety that a Tail Heavy Production video was made with, we'd all be flying "flying-field ringers," those airplanes we ALWAYS take, because they always WORK!
I have been involved in Model airplanes all my life my dad flew models and I started with control line, I am now 68. I have built and flown more models than I can remember and the same for test flying models for other modelers. But the model that I loved the most was a scratch built SIG KADET SENIOR with a two stroke OS 91 on it. This Kadet had a one piece bolt on wing with over size ailerons and a slightly aft CG, don't let any one tell you that the Sr. Kadet wont spin. If the CG is aft enough and you have enough up elevator or down and rudder throw the Kadet will do some of the nicest spins that you have ever seen. mine would do inverted spins just as nice a regular spin and with the big flat fuselage sides it would knife edge all day long. It would go from knife edge flight to a snap roll and back to knife edge in a blink of the eye. It had well over 500 flights on before I retired it.
I later acquired a Sr. Kadet ARF and put a Satio 100 4 stroke on it and it flew just as nice as the scratch built one but I did not trust the two piece wing to do the same stuff that I did with the scratch built kadet. I had other RC pilots tell me that the Satio 100 was way to much power for the kadet, my response was Futaba spent a lot of time and money designing and engineering the throttle stick on their transmitters and the throttle is just as much a flight control as the ailerons, elevator and rudder controls are so you need to learn to use it as such!
The Kadet, Das Ugly Stik and the Telemaster. All rugged, simple designs, with great flying characteristics that made them versatile for everyone's level of flying expertise. Model designers new what they were doing back then.
I had a canard, built from a plan, That was really interesting in its characteristics. With speed and moderate elevator no problem with loopings etc, but when you pulled the elevator SLOWLY more and more, it lifted its nose more and more up to a certain angle, and then snapped down into a moderate, totally stable sink angle with the elevator fully pulled.
Elevator once to neutral, and you have control back.
The perfect behaviour for a canard, completely stall-safe.
Sadly did not fly too often, as pusher with the prop directly behind the wing it was almost as loud as gasoline engine, and I had to go to fly at gasoline airfields with it, and those were rare in the Munich area - and probably now next to none has survived.
@@feedingravens You just described the canard's stall perfectly, if you hold a little speed and bring the nose up well above the horizon letting the airplane slow down and keep adding up elevator it will stall and then go into the mush condition that you described depending on how heavy the airplane is will affect how abrupt the stall is. While I have have never built a canard. I always wanted to but just never did but I have flown a couple.
@@channelsixtysix066 I had a Sr. Telemaster that I used to test the prototypes of my Digital Spread Spectrum RC systems back in the early 2000's.
After having a lockout and loosing control of the Telemaster resulting in a 30 minute flyaway and chase we recovered the airplane but not before it hit a palm tree that destroyed the fuselage but left the wing and empennage still useable so I rebuilt it as a pusher with a long nose with a cargo compartment for the experimental electronics. After that I renamed it the TELEBASTARD ! It flew great and I still have it.
Sig Kadet of any size was great. A straight forward stick build and flew so well. My first rc in 1968.
Another great video guys. I agree 100% on the reviews. I really appreciate your honesty with your reviews. Even the best planes have some flaws. Honestly the best rc plane channel on RUclips. Even my wife enjoys it and she barely tolerates my hobby stuff. That’s a huge compliment!! 👍🏻👍🏻

I certainly agree with every main point in this. Especially the getting off of useing safe once you understand enough to fly. Safe makes it easier to learn but also limits how much you can learn.
I pull every receiver out that has safe and replace with just a plain one. Never flown with one ever. No gyro either. Even with a 140 mph v900
Great video. Very straight forward information. I flew RC back in the 1970's and I crashed my first 3-4 planes but kept trying until I could keep it up in the air. My duct taped plane was great fun, and very simple ( I had a whole 3 channels ! ). Your videos clear up a lot of the BS I see online with all the " must have " tech and needed equipment involved just to get off the ground. Thank you for the honest information. I have not flown in 45 years and it's bewildering on picking up the hobby again now that I am retired. I have been busy being an aircraft mechanic for those 45 years on top of it ! Cheers.

I've gotta say, this expose helped me cope with my most recent crash- practicing my coordinated turns/flat turns- the rudder/throttle control scambles my brain. But, a little glue for the cowl, some well placed nylon enforced tape and a few swear words later, im headed back out today.
I'm confident the thin CA will hold the prop together, too. Happy Father's Day, Fliers!! 👍

How about 20 things experienced guys do when selling to noobs. Got a few, like new in box, when the box looks like rats have chewed on it and the metals all rusted.
Or appears to be all there, when the seller knows he took the wing set out to fix another plane and basically selling you a body and spare balsa,
Or, "It's only a little seized, a good hobbyist can get that working good in no time"
This brought back so many memories. I first started with U Controlled airplanes and then building my first controller from a Heathkit that came with servos, a circuit board and components to assemble in the 60s. There was no Futaba at that time that I knew of, or was too expensive. It was a learning experience in electronics and gas mixture. Yes, no battery operated planes back then. I built a Das Ugly Stick which is all balsa wood and the wing covering was material with a "dope" liquid to tighten up the material which later on a plastic shrink material was introduced. I put my Heathkit servos and homemade receiver in, and off I was. The plane didn't cost as much as they due today, but the time to build it was long hours. It was hard learning to fly, especially training yourself that left and right was reversed when flying back. Then learned to color the bottom of the plane a different color to know right side up, and learning that you only had a certain range you could fly. Having to jump up on something to get your plane to return. No, SAFE, or GPS to return home. As I learned to fly better, I built a replica WW2 Hellcat and flew it. The short wings and big fuselage made it a tricky plane to fly. Made me think of a bumblebee, it shouldn't be able to fly. Then I graduated to a fast plane to pylon race, it was all plastic and light. The other people I flew with, we all had to put tags on our antennas, so we didn't cross frequencies. Later on was able to buy a Futaba digital controller, but still no SAFE equipment that you mentioned at that time. You just knew back then, when balsa wood hits hard dirt, you pick up the pieces and start over. Fun times.

You're an old timer like me. One of my first radios was a blue box from Hobby Lobby. I Remember we had to use frequency flags. My next radio was a used Futaba as Kraft radio prices were beyond my budget. Given today's prices it is a heck of lot cheaper to fly RC. Das Ugly Stik was a good flier. Even though I had over 1000 planes through the years l never owned one. I did have a few of 3 channel Kadet Seniors. Currently, I keep two ARF electric seniors in my fleet.
@@dog01b52I tested some of the earlier drones and they could be a handful. The biggest drone I tested had six motors, 30 inch diameter, GPS guided and controlled, meant for professional video work. Not much fun to fly. I actually preferred flying the cheap ones costing about $100. I had to really know how to fly on windy days. My favorite stunt was fly it zipping around a foot of the ground
I started flying RC in1972. Alot of improvements through the years. Electric powered foam planes make the hobby accessible to just about everyone. The more stick time the pilot has the better he will become, in the beginning don't worry how your plane looks as long as it is safe and well built. The best planes for beginners are motor powered gliders that can belly land as chances are you might land in the airfield but not the runway. Years ago while working at Nitro Planes years ago I did a video with someone who had no experience. The guy kept it over the flield but missed the runway, landed in the field. Nearly all trainers coming out of box will have too much movement in the control sufaces. Whenever possible have a experience pilot check your airplane out before the maiden flight.
I have built my own FF balsa planes for 60 years, but it wasn't until I bought a foam UMX Turbo Timber that I tried RC. Now I'm hooked!
@@kenkingsflyingmachines2382 I never built FF myself. In the 60s I was into line control models especially those made by Cox. When I first saw a RC taxi from the pit area to the flight line, I knew that's what I wanted.

5:28 I'm actually intimidated by the auto stabilization, i learnt to fly without it years ago and yes i had a few crashes early on but they were predictable crashes and i learnt from them, ive seen the auto stabilization go wrong and force beginners planes out of the sky either because it wasn't set correctly or if just failed, id much rather crash on my own terms.

Spot on... I always advise new time flyers to learn without any gyros, it will make for a better pilot ,besides they can always add gyros once they have learnt without.
If you've flown before, Spektrum SAFE and the like is useless. If you buy a plane with a gyro already in it and designed for it, some planes it can be very nice and you don't have to mess around with setting it up because it's already been set up for you. Putting a gyro in an existing plane, there can be a learning curve with certain setups and systems.
I have a tiny cheap 4ch quadcopter, 4ch FP helicopter, 3ch foam jet, and 4ch foamie warbird. They're all a blast and have proven very durable. After eight plus years of use I finally had to order a set of replacement blades for the quadcopter. The pusher jet has suffered grievous injuries, but thanks to the magic of tape and foam still flies like new and looks good from a distance.

After learning foam building techniques (from Flitetest) I have designed and built many. It is true, given enough power and proper CG, almost anything will fly.
So true! I love my old Tundra and it flies well even though it’s crusty and the paint is flaking off.

I was on the “safe mode” bus when I first started out. It does help you learn but it could hinder your progress if you never get out of your comfort zone.
As an armchair engineer I totally agree with the "put enough thrust and it'll fly" part
I've seen people literally cut a slit in one end of a square piece of foambard and put servos on it to make it into elevons, attach a motor and radio gear and you've literally got a flying piece of foamboard. Anything will fly. ANYTHING.
My dad always said put a big enough wing or big enough motor on a brick and it will fly, probably not very well. Dad was an degreed Aeronautical Engineer. He taught me enough to design and build my own RC planes, still fly but control line only, eyesight not good enough at seventy to play with jets, a shame, I'd love flying one.
If force isn't working then you're not using enough.
@@michaeltrivette1728 I've been known if a 40 flies it, a 60 should really make it fly! If the plans call for an eight-ounce tank, squeeze a ten in and have more flight time. I've listened to people calling my planes toys, but I refer to them as remote-controlled miniature aircraft, which is just what they are. I've also heard less than helpful hobby dealers selling a kid a scale Mustang kit instead of a trainer. I hate seeing that, they'll never get it built enough to fly it. I was also a flight instructor in two clubs, and one of the early air show qualified pilots and performed at local airport open houses. I made sure that everything I did was as safe as possible and let the people see just what models could do.

Our local flying club is made up mostly of people who cannot afford the latest and best kits or radio gear,but we do try and help eachother out, on numerous occasions if somebody lost a plane,somebody else would donate an old plane in their hangar so the person could get back up in the air as soon as possible, i myself have given away some planes and some of my time to help someone else so they can have a good time... Like you said ,it really doesnt have to be a huge financial investment. Nice video, i enjoyed it.
Some of the most fun i have had in this hobby has been buying used planes off Craigslist, fixing them and flying them. Most are not pretty when done and probably shouldn't fly again but when you got a whooping $20-$50 into it (electronics transplanted from one to another) it just brings smiles to your face. It also makes you a better pilot !

Great video and soooo true,,, I own thousands of dollars of expensive kits and the plane I enjoy flying the most is a DIY stick plane made from a stick of balsa wood and sheet of dollar store foamboard. I slapped a little 1604 motor on it and use 6 dollar 350mha 3s batterys and it flys better than most of my expensive store bought models and still weighs under the 250 gm. It is a slow flyer so I can enjoy a quick flight in my back yard or any park or cultisac even, it is perfect for landing practice, formation flying with your buddies whatever, it cost me less than 100 bucks total. To be fair, there is an initial investment to enter the hobby but once you get your chargers, batteries, transmitter, receivers etc. they can be reused over and over for many models and types of rc crafts.
I mean, with enough thrust, even a brick can fly.
You just need to make it fly right.

SPEKTRUM had receivers that locked out control for between a few seconds and up to.around 15 seconds and never seemed to address or admit it for years, it cost me ( and a lot of other people ) a LOT of money in smashed up models,
The easy way out for them was to blame pilots saying it was pilot error.😢
I was working in the hobby industry during that period and it was a huge struggle and costed us too because Spektrum didn’t care. We even gave people free capacitors that we’re supposed to fix the issue, it didn’t!
@@richardb8492 I remember those capacitors lol, yes the hobby shops must have hated SPEKTRUM for that, and I bet you weren't allowed to admit to the problem for fear of reproductions from SPEKTRUM !
I some cheap copies from China which worked better Haha.
Went over to frisky eventually though even though it meant I had to scrap loads of RX's etc, I just could not bring myself to sell on the SPEKTRUM stuff knowing it would likely destroy someone else's models too.
I had 8 new Spektrum AR 500 receivers fail in the air. Horizon would ask "What brand speed control are you using" and blame that.

The reviewer bias is in all products . Along with what you said , It's a bit of human nature also .
I just want them to be upfront on whether it was free or not ...as per the TOS .
I taught myself to fly with scratchbuilt foamies and it has been a very rewarding experience. 15 years later, still flying. And I don't use dumb thumbs. Nor gyros.
It’s really amazing how I can fly an EDF jet with a 20C rating 4S even when they suggest 35c or higher and never caught fire 😅 and it’s really the practice and instructions that makes a good RC pilot at the end of the day.

The only change I can think of is getting the government out of our hobby. I would like to think if you're smart enough to fly, you should be smart enough to know how to conduct yourself and follow standard rules.
I think your statement was true not too long ago before dji came along with their push a button and your flying drones. They lead idiots who couldn't fly a kite to have the confidence level to match their idiocy.

Sadly it's not the case, some of the stuff I used to see people do with R/C stuff and bring it back to a shop I used to work at was crazy. For example filling up a brushed motor with oil on the commutator and wondering why it would not run properly 😂
You forgot the lie about having to pay extra for more channels. All of the old big name radio makers are still offering just 6 channels for beginners, when Frsky and others have proven that to be nonsense. My 75$ T-Lite can do 16, and have voice alerts etc, while a 250$ DX6E have only 6 channels and no voice alerts at all.

I take RC planes as they are. Because what you said is true. I usually end up modifying or changing what I feel is needed to make them better, as I did with the real thing. I was a aircraft technician way before I flew RC planes. In the AirForce good solid proven modifications through the right channels were excepted. I made several. Self taught with my 1st RC plane, I made it from wall foam and paper mchue, it was three channel, my 1st flight ever, and very ugly, but it flew. I haven't stopped since.

I love my club! No matter what I turn up with they just want to see it in the air!!! We have the traditionalists but there is some crazy stuff flown at my club! Just love the creativity!
if i would have used this video as a reference to flying, I would have NEVER gotten involved in the hobby. There wasn't a single clip that made me say to myself, "that looks like fun, I should get involved with this hobby. Quite the opposite, actually. Oh, and for the record, I started flying in the 1960s.
All very true and widely overlooked. BTW, for once I have a tip for you guys: Watch the TT Evolution's motor temperature when hovering. I test ran mine for 3 mins at 30 amps, ambient temp 65-ish, and the motor was too hot to touch through the access holes left by the faux exhaust pipes I trimmed away like I do with any non-functional scale detail.
Thanks! As for the Timber, she def got hot after more hovering in flights, but we never had one burn out completely. We no longer own our Turbo Timber Evolutions.
I’ve burned out 2 TTE motors, causing one plane to become lodged in the top of a mature pine tree. Also had 2 Carbon Z Cub motors fail as well. Flying stock prop sizes in all cases. Glue failed on both the Z Cub motors causing the magnets to break away from the can. Had no more issues from either plane after switching brands of motors. Horizon is making them super cheap and charging way more than they’re worth imo.

I am surprised you did not mention the advantage of having a flight instructor.
It can save you much frustration and expense.
If no instructor is available then a plane with the safe system may help get you started. Be warned, the longer you fly with it the harder it will be for you to fly without it because you will develop bad habits that will cause you to crash when you fly without it.
I started with a micro foam plan. On the box it said, 'Teach yourself to fly.' So I did.
However, there is a disclaimer they should have included on the box. It should be -
fly, crash, repair, repeat - and yes, T-shirts are available with that printed on them.

I became determined that I would make my Multiplex Microjet fly. It took a few life lessons in disappointment, but it flew twice is about 30 attempts. I know I can face impossible odds to get what I want now. To quote Professor Morgan: " If ya ain't miserable, ya ain't learning nothing. "

Definitely love the comment of flying low is the only way to learn to fly low. My nice 3D planes only look nice for a few weeks, but its an investment. Nothing like the feeling of nailing a backflip landing!
I do like safe, i get the gist and basics of flying im no where near knife edge or high alpha and it definitely helps build my confidence but everything ive experienced so far is spot of with the video unfortunately i love aviation hahaha so yes im broke i started with the carbon cub s+ 1.3 as my first real rc airplane aside from my squadron of volantex warbirds lol i used real flight to help me have more confidence and i get to the point now where i will click out of safe when im in the air. I personally have found high wing is great for beginners because of the gliding aspect i use my little volantex to help keep my motivation up and have bought a few other planes to aim for as goals i need to focus on banking now so thats where i am at. I love the hobby and anyome who reads this that is a beginner welcome youre going to love it here hahaha and dont let anyone discourage you and if youve wrecked and have built a fear(ive been guilty umxa10) dont give up remember sponsored pros flying $40000 rc planes that have crashed! Enjoy the skies my friends. All i wish is i could find other enthusiasts to connect with and fly.
Flying heli's and planes since 1990 and when electric really hit the scene, I think the funnest planes I flew where the ugly foam creations I built out of scrap foam.. Making a foam cutter from an old Tyco train transformer and some mechanics wire was one the best things I ever did. And don't get Me wrong, I've also built some really nice and detail planes the same way. Just have fun.
Spectrum G2 batteries are a great example of not tested fully, working in a hobby store we get one or 2 a week that have a dead cell, bad connection for the intergraded balance board and just some that don't like to live more than a few mins or puff. I was disappointed in my G2 battery for my 10iii after they died on the 3rd run

I quit flying RC in 2015 when I moved back to Calif, from Vegas. I got spoiled while in Vegas with so many places to fly. There are no close fields where I'm located so I gave it up. At this time all my gear is obsolete, well, only if you listen to the other pilots. I was also a builder and these days everything is ARFs. I did get a kick going to a field with a new plane and being asked who builds it. I was a plans builder so I had a lot of planes no one has ever seen. I still have several planes out in the shop so if there is ever a local field I have the planes. The AMA is also a problem for me. A lot of money and not pro-rated. Always due right at the holidays when everyone is broke. That and the AMA does nothing for that money.
As both an RC and drone flyer, I feel the frustration with too many people with easy access to RTF planes ,and out of the box drones. Unfortunately speaking from the drone side of the debate this time, I find the problem is a complete lack of codified rules and trained people to teach others how to responsibly handle his/her drone. In my area there are three individuals who will gladly show you the ropes of RC. But there are no drone pilots who are equally capable of teaching drone basics. I don't know if it's because they simply don't want to be caught by the new rules, or they just don't teach.
Also, because drone incidences are far more "in the public eye" it gives a negative (and often justified) view of how reckless drone owners can be. It's the hot doggers that make pilots like me and others cringe because all we want to do is share the skies with our RC brethren and just have a good time. That and the sheer proliferation of drones. Even Junior at 3 can have his first drone. So you advertise a drone who has often toxic and dangerous Li-Ion batteries, props that can cut fingers off, and no training required. Sounds great doesn't it? NOT
Perhaps the solution is more awareness of drones, better training, and that like RC, they are not for everyone. It's a great hobby and I do enjoy it, but not at someone else's expense. But one thing is for sure, training is essential!!
excellent, the horizon tie in to their gear is one of my pet peeves, really annoying. the C rating bull can be traced back to flight power whose "testing" of their batteries was rather "interesting"
This is fun, all my plane have mark from some pilot error. But they are still runing. And l have new once and second hand planes. And some cash in the bank. 😊😊 nice video again. Spott on 😊
Too many people flying R/C today have very little knowledge what it takes to maintain an R/C system or whet it really takes to keep your FOAM contraption airworthy.
Yeah, these are things you learn with experience, hopefully sooner than later...
My 2 eye openers were 1- I bought an overkill speed controller for a smaller 500 size helicopter (Gaui 425), which was advertised for a 600, only for it to brown out right away and force me to do my first autorotation. I got on the phone with Castle Creations and the guy told me to just buy a BEC from them, so I said "I'll take the 10 amp", the guy said "I wouldn't trust that on anything bigger than a 250", next I said "Then why is the one built into the speed controller for a 600 less than 10 amps? Why even have it if its not even good enough for a tiny little 250?" The guy laughed and said "Because people don't know better and just buy it" or something like that. Not cool at all.
My second eye opener was- I bought an E-flight Ultra micro P-51 as my first RC plane (I was already flying helicopters and had just got a T-Rex 450) despite being hesitant after hearing how hard of a plane it is to fly. I absolutely loved it and could fly it at it's limits (flying backwards in the wind) within a week. I unfortunately sold it after a few months, so I bought the new 4 blade version with AS3X more recently and it was a straight performance downgrade in every. I had trouble just keeping it in the air due to the gyro (which I couldn't shut off) not communicating what the plane was actually doing- I would have the stick around 50% right and 25% up, but the gyro actually had it more like 100% right alieron and 75% up elevator to make it seem "smooth" in the very light wind. All that did was make it suddenly stall one it reached it's limit leaving me with zero extra throw to correct while thinking I had an extra 50% travel to use (even more accounting for expo). It also was much more fragile, couldn't belly land in the grass without catching the prop and flipping over forward, couldn't roll without losing control, and could only do two loops tops before losing too much speed/ altitude (with the original I could just hold the stick all the way back and it would do tight loops, without any other input, until I let go). It was really bad. It actually broke during transport while inside the box. I watched my friend crash my old one into the ground (at full throttle from tree top level) hard enough to eject the battery and tear the micro plastic connector off. The plane was, somehow, perfectly fine but the battery was destroyed!?

I stopped RC planes years ago, when I started plowing up more ground than a Kansas wheat farmer!
When I started flying I made the mistake of buying a expensive $500 warbird that was too fast it stressed me out so much that I sold it. I bought a hobbyzone Champ $100 and have so much fun. it's is so easy that I have gotten to the point that I can fly it one handed under a light breeze. I also bought an extra charger and 2 batteries and with that I only need long enough to swap batteries.
I have been flying rc for about 15 years. Was building foam board wings since before flight test was a thing. My 2 dollar wings have done 40+ km flights.. I wouldn't have the heart to do that with a 500$ plus rig..

One of the reasons I like U C flying as you rarely crash more than fifty feet away.Two guys were flying combat one cut both of lines on the other plane it was last seen about 500 feet over San Francisco Bay and climbing.
Im genuinely confused as to how false C rating on batteries is legal, because this is something that can be given a mathematical value, NOT just a marketing term like "natural" or "premium". If 2+2 does not equal 4, most industries can be held liable for falsely labeling their products

The real problem is the Government. With the new regulations and reg fees, I sold off everything and walked away. Big Brother completely destroyed this hobby.
The $5. for 3 years fee was a real killer.
