  • The Braun Paxettes were often called 'The poor-man's Leica'. The cameras were fairly ambitious with their specification if not wonderful in terms of their engineering quality. Regardless of that, there are plenty about the place, and they are certainly interesting cameras, and they remain cheap.
    Here I take two representative examples, neither working properly, and work through their various problems. Closing up the camera and starting on the Super Paxette.

    You made that look so easy! I'll be trying my luck again this weekend and see if I can get it together. Mine definitely doesn't want to lay flat - the end always pops out as I'm winding it around. But, you've given me hope that it can be done! Question - does the advance return spring not need any grease/lubrication?
