The Observation Hall now closes at 5:00pm. Pre-2020, it used to be open much later, maybe until 10:00 pm. It was wonderful to go there at dusk to watch the airport activity. I preferred that to the daytime. I visited Japan 4 times between 2006 and 2016, always arrived at Kansai and stayed at the Nikko Hotel located on the airport island, so visited the Observation Hall every time. The train ride to Tokyo would have been free if you had a Japan Rail pass. If you had to buy a ticket, the train is much more expensive. Roughly $150 AUD or $102 USD for a reserved standard class seat on the fastest Shinkansen (bullet) train. Unreserved seats are cheaper, but you could end up standing for part or all of the trip. It's unsurprising that the plane was clean. So is just about everything else in Japan, including the streets.
This gotta be the most interesting one hour flight review on you tube....your style and narration is best in class bro 😅 Japanese efficiency and culture is 👌🏼 Meanwhile a mass mob at Syd domestic boarding 20 yr old cramped 737s.....with relaxing qf boarding music to make it premium 😅😅
The foreigner fare is commonly available but not every airline participates. JAL and ANA both do and I have been on them a few times. Japan runs some rather old plane domestically, so you got lucked out with the new A320neo. I remember being on really old B767 where fixtures are worn but very clean.
I enjoyed your video and commentary. I am heading to japan in June of 224 and I wil be flying the reverse route that you took. HND-KIX. I'm looking forward to it.
I assume for foreign tourists, the Shinkansen along with the rail pass is the "go-to" way to travel around Japan, so I guess these sorts of discount fares are to entice them to try domestic flights. It's almost the opposite of other countries where domestic flying is the default and taking a train is the more exotic option. Of course, with the recent massive increase in price of the JR pass, I'm not sure if these discounts will stick around.
Yeah, with the JR pricing changes and just trains costing a lot in Japan flying is definitely becoming more appealing, it’s also quicker tbh, like the trains are fast but with the public transport availability at the airports they are super easy to transit through.
I’m pretty sure the discounts are an extension of the government GO TO TRAVEL program post pandemic that gave significant discounts for domestic travel. Haneda has a new onsen there now lol so Japanese I didn’t try it this year but maybe next. Soak then fly sounds divine. Great video, again 👍
Is that 75 USD or 75 AUD? If the former, I wouldn't call that cheap. I have flown JAL on that domestic route (from ITM) for less on their explorer pass (~40-50 GBP). The plane does look modern and clean tho, plus sounds like you had a breeze (huge contrast to European LCCs, for that reason I opted for JAL when I went). Nice to see what it's like for next time! Great vid. Edit: ignore i saw the clarification at the end of the vid 😅
underrated channel, you should really have more subs ngl

Great flight report as always Simon. Curious - would you make another video for TPE-KIX leg on China Airlines?
Yep, it’s coming!

Amazing video man, please keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
My new fav flight review channel!
Thank you for this.. I was going to book and got confused about “cheaper for foreigners policy” it’s usually the other way around 😊

Hahaha yeah $85 AUD!
Did your economy ticket included a 20kg check in luggage for free?
Hi, does this fly Japan value fare include checked-baggage allowance? Where u book it from? Await your reply, Tq.
👌🏼❤️🇱🇨!!!

Another good video. I hope you won't be like Josh Cahill who has the honour to be banned on Qatar Airways.
Hahaha oh yeah, I may or may not be flying Qatar soon 😬
