Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

I enjoyed this video very much. This video showcases the large variety of telescoping rods that the Japanese fishermen have an opportunity to use and that they must be very passionate of their sport.
    Thanks :D

I am sure the people of Japan would jump up and be proud to defend their history and the truth about tenkara. I appreciated this video very much and this why I say Daniel is truly the best ambassador for true traditional tenkara. I know people who get upset when Canadians call ham Canadian Bacon and yet we can call tanago and other forms of fixed line tenkara, just to save a buck. Look ham is ham and bacon is bacon, so as tenkara fished with kebari and an actual tenkara rod is true tenkara.

we ,, normally in Europe use telescopic rods to COARSE fish ( up to about 9 m ) ,, but I have used WHIPS ( a small coarse telescopic rod ( up to 4 m long ) for fly fishing for trout on small streams to great effect !!

When I lived in Okinawa I saw people fishing for blue damsal, a small saltwater fish approximately 5 cm long, using a 13ft rod in tied pools. I found it interesting and humerous.
I got my Tenkara rod from you hot long atfter you brought Tenkara to the US in 2009ish.

the rods in combo with the supports are used in the older parts of Russia as well. Mostly carp, a fish like bluegill and pike. The tackle shops are just like this one, full of items I'd never seen. Like a candy shop for fishermen :-)

I think I could spend half a day in that store (a full day if I could read Japanese). My 6-year-old twins cast flies on level line with 6.5 foot long "tenago" rods. Their littles hands match the little grips well too. I won't let them touch my tenkara rods yet!

The Tanago rod is far more than a bait fishing rod. It's made for catching the Tanago fish, which is very small. A grown one can be half as long as your little finger, but the purpose is to catch the smallest Tanago fish possible. Catching very, very small fish is considered more difficult than catching large fish.
A handmade bamboo Tanago rod can take six months to make, usually comes in two sections, and is about as think as a chopstick. I won't attempt tp describe the philosophy behind Tanago fishing, but I think it is the most dist9inctly Japanese of all the different types of fishing found in Japan.

so im gonna simplify it for Y'all:
forget the fancy Japanese names , telescopic poles are from 6 feet to 40 feet + and they come in light soft action to hard stiff action , the thinner and stiffer the carbon in them , the more expensive they are, the end

So if you're fishing for trout on small mountain streams with a Nissin Sieryu rod, using an artificial fly and not bait, and there's no cork grip and the rod is under 8 feet because of overhanging branches, is it Tenkara? Or is it Seiryu? Or neither? I'm intrigued in the way you seem to make the serious point that only tenkara rods can cast a line, and tenkara rods ONLY have cork grip... so what would one call a fisherman who casts all day with a shorter, more sensitive fixed-line rod, in smaller streams, for smaller fish, and doesn't need to beef up the grip? Is a new term in order here?

What he was saying about the different type of fishing is that they(Japanese) do not use the term Tenkara fishing, but [Insert whatever species] fishing.

This guy asked a million questions, did he even buy a single item from the poor store clerk?
Here in the states, if you ask more than 5 questions they tend to ignore you. I guess that is the difference between Americans and Asians and why people from around the world have a hard time liking Americans.
