This will bring back memories to any South African who grew up in the 80s. In my opinion, we had the best adverts, with some amazing memorable lines. The adverts were so good that one even remembers the strap lines today. Things like "Morkels, your two year guarantee store." and "It's in the centre, Mr. Venter." They bring back so many memories.

I remember the VW golf advert was always played when Pop Shop was on (Alex Jay). .
I love Jeremy Taylor in the Joko add.
Also bought the Blue Citi Golf for R7200,00 including tax in 1984

Koffiehuis was ahead of its time, it had an inclusive ad.
I lived the Chomp chocolate add...that little hippo that volunteered stretch is mouth fast enough...called his dad Big Mouth...😃

I'm so proud to be an 80s child.. These adverts were the best! Bought that yellow sport citi golf back in its time and I was so happy with it!!

Nothing to be proud of because this looks like European add beside koffiehuise bravo to them but the rest I'm so ashamed of them
We got the Blue...not Green...I was the talk of the grade 7s because of it ..😀
The 80s Tv ads were good, especially the Volkswagen ad. I also like the 70s SA ads. I have not seen any on YT. I liked the Sterns ad when tv first arrived in South Africa.
Thanks for uploading a slice of my childhood! Great to step back in time with some 80s classics - and also to see Paul Slab and the late great Bill Flynn, who helped start my career. Legends.
Two of my favourite adverts in South Africa was 1. Cremora - "It's not inside but on Top" 2. Rama - The 1 they put Rama on everything including a hat, kitchen counter etc...
About these above adverts I can remember a few of them but not all of them.
How ironic is it that we would grimace and groan everytime the ads came on and would interrupt our viewing and now, I actually came on RUclips searching for these! Apartheid aside, this was good old cheesy nostalgia at its best, thanks Bruce!
I'm not even from South Africa (i'm from the US), and I thought those ads were neat! Honestly, I barely know anything about y'all's country (except that y'all had the World Cup there a couple of years ago) and I wanted to learn more about it, so i've been watching stuff like this. We had ads similar to that back in the 80's over here, and it's somewhat of a cool time warp. Thanks for posting these!

Vee Sea - I was going through some old VHS Tapes when we recorded TV to watch later rather than just going to Catch-Up. Amazing how we remember tunes and words from adverts so many years back.

That ad with the kittens got my intrigued on how they managed to get the kittens move from bowl to bowl and all I can think of was a electric shock or something.
Just goes to show what you people know. The blacks had their own television stations Tv2 and TV3 (and maybe TV4) and they played their ads with blacks only on there. I remember watching a replay of the ads during school holidays and they'd show everything in one go, in some of the black South African languages. Don't comment if you didn't grow up in South Africa cause you will never know first hand what it was like. I'm saying this as a Proudly Coloured South African!
Good heavens, where did you find these? I remember them all, especially the ad that made us all fall in love with the CitiGolf😂 Neil McCarthy was still a laaitie in the Mentadent P ad🙈 And the Morkels lady🤣 What a wow!
The fact that people "miss those old days" even though that was during the worst times in South Africa really has me feeling some type of way.
Absolutely nothing beats the joy of being a third world country. At the moment moving from the evil of electricity (coal power) to candle power. The beauty of progress in Africa comes naturally.
Get over it. IT IS AND WILL ALWAYS be a part of our history....we are in a better space.

I was wondering if you perhaps have the Sanlam ad from around 1988 - with the babies, one is a financial advisor dressed in a shirt and tie. I just saw Handful of Keys with Jonathan Roxmouth and found out that he was that baby!

Does anyone remember the advert where the little school boy stands at the top of the stairs and hands out Valentine's Day cards to every girl. I thiiiiink the song 'only you; was playing. Anybody know? I have no idea what they were advertising, but I know it was in the 90s lol.
It was for a copier - maybe Xerox? He was getting them printed on the copier at home.

You should put a list of the adverts in the description to make it easier / possible to search for specific ads in the collection, using the RUclips search box. For example, searching for Clover Milk does not bring this video up currently.

@rdt1970 Nice question. First, this was the 1980s, so you do the math. Second, the advert for "Koffiehuis" was actually quite diverse, which was fairly interesting to me. Must have been ahead of its time.
