It’s just regular felt pieces that you can buy from fabric stores or from Michael’s. Just don’t get it from the dollar store. It’s very thin and cheaply made.
You should be able to. I bought the cricut maker so it would cut all types of material. BUT I was disappointed that it did not cut the felt. It just bunched it up and my fabric cutting mat was very new.

Could you use felt with adhesive back instead of sewing each piece?
You could but I like the effect of the stitching around the edge. Just gives it a nice finished hand look touch.

What is the weight of the animals ?
Oh gosh. Have no idea. They are very light. Take two pieces of felt about 3x3” and that will be your approximate weight.
