-The original Spyro is what made me want to go into game development as an animator.
-Assassins Creed 2 is what motivated me in my first job to push for more.
-Journey is the game that actually touched my soul for the first time. Made me view games as a genuine art form that can go away from fun-murder-sim, and collect-a-thons for children.

That's a very peculiar list. What's your generation, out of curiosity? You are not a millenial, right? Those are too modern, but there is love for retro gaming in that list, it's about the style and mechanics of those games.

    5. Wii Sports: Motion controls blew my mind and I played it so much since it came with the console. It might not be a perfect game, but as an introduction to the Wii and it's features it was fantastic!
    4. Hollow Knight: Currently my favorite indie game and made me more interested in indie dev games more than AAA games these days. I played Dark Souls several years later, but my experience with Hollow Knight felt more polished despite only being 2D.
    3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask: We will never get another game as experimental or creepy as this game in the Zelda series and it really resonated with me.
    2. Super Mario 64: My first game I played and one I loved for the free form exploration it offered. No other game is as nostalgic to me as this game despite the odd camera controls.
    1. Chrono Trigger: My favorite game of all time and a game I always compare to any RPG I play. Really helped out during a rough point in my life and to this day I can't think of any other game old or modern that exceeds Chrono Trigger.
Plenty of new games I am finally playing for the first time such as the Halo series, Red Dead Redemption 2, and much more now that I have a PC, but these are just the games I played ages ago that create the foundation for what I look for in future games I play both new and old.

my number 1 would be Celeste, hands down. it has gorgeous pixel animation thats so stylistic, with incredible music, a great emotional story and such fantastic controls which feel heavy yet satisfying. i love how the gameplay does not rely on an arsenal of abilities to conquer each stage, but utilises a gimick each stage to make it feel unique. also as it is a parkour game, whenever you die it does not feel like its the games fault and never feels strenuous or aggrovating. overall, a top notch game that id highly recommend.

Top 5 for me has to be
    5.halo reach
I love halo reach because of the single player campaign, the story is not only amazing but the background and the gameplay is very amazing
    4. Titanfall 2
The extremely fun movement and gun play in that game is just something else, and the titans are just really cool.
    3. Battlefield 4
Battlefield 4 is good because of the large scale battles, when you fly over to an objective with you squad in a helicopter only to be shot down by a missile and now you're in an on ground fight is insane especially when it has 64 player in a game
    2. Half life 2
Half life 2 is one of the best games I have ever played, the amazing world building and the locations you visit in the game are just beautiful not only that but the story is great
    1. portal 2
I think portal 2 had such an impact on me because of the world building,
The world building in portal 2 is the best I have seen in any game, the game takes place in the same place for all the game (aperture science)
But it always feels different like at the start every thing is run down and it's all overgrown and later you're in a forgotten part way back from the 40s my favourite parts are when you're out the test chambers and you just see the massive facility around, also the story is amazing and funny. Best game 10/10

WoW did so much for me. The most minor was lessening my arachnophobia and the greatest was helping me through my social anxiety during a turbulent time in my life. WoW gave me exposure therapy when I had no other way to do so. Of course, I let my school work suffer as well, which was not good, but I eventually got over my addiction. One a lighter note, Kingdom Hearts was my first RPG and the first game that blew my mind as a kid. The series holds a special place in my heart even when it's had its problems. Can't wait for KH 4.

    1. Dark Souls 1
I played this game in high school, over a year after its release. At the time, I was bored with life and not seeking to challenge myself nearly enough. Dark Souls helped to show me that challenges can be fun and rewarding. Also the game is just insanely detailed and well thought out, with gorgeous visuals and phenomenal combat and PvP. A true masterpiece.
    2. Fallout: New Vegas
New Vegas is a game that feels impossible to exist, especially when you factor in the development woes. The amount of well written choice and consequence in a highly detailed 3D world is difficult to even comprehend. The characters are phenomenal, and the gameplay is more than serviceable despite the bad wrap. Even without mods, this is a masterpiece.
    3. Ratchet & Clank: UYA
This is definitely a bit of a nostalgia pick. R&C is a series that almost doesn't get as much love as it deserves. It was one of the first shooters with an addictive gun upgrade mechanic, and the writing is hilarious wile retaining the series' core themes. UYA is certainly a flawed game, and has some unfavorable comparisons to GC, but I was so addicted to this as a kid, modern looter shooters have a lot to owe to these classics.
    4. Earthbound
Oh Smash Bros, how many amazing franchises have you introduced me to.. Earthbound is a game I never would have heard about without Melee, but I am so glad I have been able to experience it. I learned how to download and use emulators to play this game, and I owe a lot of my current computer knowledge and problem solving capability to this endeavor. Tha game itself is quirky, charming, and mechanically simple but fun. It has a vibe unmatched by any other game, and one I often ling to revisit.
    5. Legend of Zelda: BOTW
I was already a Zelda fan, but nothing in the series could have prepared me for this. BOTW is an absolutely gorgeous and systemic open world that vastly improved the genre. The combat is fun, movement and the camera feel perfect, and the amount of quality content is staggering. I put in a ton of hours, and will certainly continue to do so in the future.

For me, my Top 5 Most Influential (to Me) Games list would end up being...
    5. Mario Paint. For the same reason Saber repped Ace Combat, it was the first game where it wasn't just a simple game, but rather a box of endless possibilities.
    4. Chrono Trigger. Probably the game that solidified my love for video games the most. Even when my PS1 memory card died and I couldn't get very far because of it, I would still play the opening hours of Chrono Trigger time and time and time again. Still one of my absolute favorites.
    3. Kingdom Hearts. I loved JRPGs, but action RPGs were never my jam. Until -the Fire Nation attacked- Kingdom Hearts happened. This is another game that will forever remain near and dear to my heart, and no game (even in its own franchise) captures the same magic and atmosphere.
    2. World of Warcraft. Video games can be vectors for social interaction. Who knew?
    1. Final Fantasy VII. It may not be my favorite Final Fantasy, but this to me was the first game that wasn't just for silly happy fun times--there was some heavy stuff in the story, and I was transfixed by all the twists and turns and epic scenarios. Now it's been upstaged in my heart by 6, 9, and Tactics, but 7 is when the whole paradigm shifted.

    • @Zelkiiro

Also yeah, Metal Gear Solid would've been my #1 if Final Fantasy VII hadn't beaten it to the same punch a few months earlier. :V

#10- Super Mario Bros 3- It is the very first game which I distinctly remember playing ever. One of my older cousins owned a NES and we would hang out with her sisters and my brothers and play that game every weekend in my early childhood. By far the best Mario game in my opinion until Super Mario 64 came out
#9 Twin Cobra- It was my favorite game from my Sega Genesis library (first console I ever owned) it was a really fun shoot 'em up I ever experienced coupled with a good soundtrack which was enhanced with the Genesis' sound chip in my opinion
#8 Sonic Adventures 2: Despite its flaws, I still remember this game really fondly, it had a great soundtrack which many of its songs are still in my smartphone's internal music library to this day. The sonic levels are always the fun ones while Knuckle's are a personal close second. I love how the story intertwines the goals of the good and bad guys culminating in an epic final act with one of the best final boss songs ever made!
#7 Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King movie tie-in game- Beforehand, I never knew that movie tie-in games sucked until I heard of the LJN games from the NES era. This game, coupled with Spiderman 2 (2004) gave me the impression that that subgenre was good. It improved on the gaming and hack-n-slash mechanics from the Two Towers game, with using the best scores from the movies. Back when it came out it did a good job at transitioning cinematic scenes into gameplay cutscenes so seamlessly.
#6 Battle Zone (1998)- It was the very first FPS PC game I ever played. The Cold War, space themed shooting game was such an interesting concept for kid me. I'll never forget that cinematic intro, PC games always had a way to get you hooked once you booted the game for the first time. The numerous types of fighter spacecraft was incredible (my favorite was always grizzly). The soundtrack was good and so was the graphics for its time. I remember playing hundreds of hours and trying to share it with my brother proved too difficult to the point that my mom got mad at our fighting over it that she broke the disc in front of us.
#5 Medal of Honor: Frontline- This is one of the very first FPS games on consoles I ever played in my life. The story of the Normandy Invasions during WW2 have been portrayed countless times in other games, movies, and even in music videos. But this game is always special for it introduced me to WWII history and I will never forget that. The campaign was so good, with a really fun multiplayer which I had countless memories of playing with my friends and cousins growing up. The soundtrack is so damn good, I will always remember the Operation Market Garden track for it speaks to me on an emotional level. Seriously, this game's soundtrack is on par with most WW2 media including Band of Brothers, Saving Private Bryan and U-571.
#4 Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2005)- Where can I begin with this game. It is the pinnacle of NFS racing games and it never was topped ever since (and most NFS fans agree). It combines what makes the Underground series so great, with the hot pursuit mechanic which the series is best known for. It also has a decent story which follows up on the Underground games, which were heavily inspired by the Fast and the Furious movies. Out of all the street racing games that came out during that fad, I'd say that this is the best one.
#3 Crash Bandicoot (3): Warped- This is not only my favorite crash game, but this is also both my most influential and favorite 3D platformer of all time, even beating out Sly Cooper And the Thievious Racoonus. I always wanted to own a PS1, mainly because of this game (which I eventually did in 2002). It improves on everything that its predecessors did and then some, it included newer types of levels like racing and aerial dogfighting, as well as being the first Crash game to include power-ups. The Tornado Spin will always be my favorite power-up. It has good voice acting for a PS1 game with the late Mel Winkler giving the best performance as Aku Aku than any other VA can ever give; Greg Eagles does his best but he can never measure up. It also has the best soundtrack of any Crash game in my opinion.
#2 The Sims 1 (and all its expansion packs)- I can not describe the level of nostalgia that this game brings to me; it's more nostalgic than any other game that I've played before or since. It introduced me to the whole world a new genre of video game, a game concept that was hard to grasp for many execs; including those at EA who ended up taking on Will Wright's idea. You get to create your own avatar, make a rendition of your desired real-life crush, and build your own house. You spend the game working, climbing the employment ladder and buying more shiny things for your household and basically enjoying a virtual life. You can get into a lot of hijinks with your Sims and be able to feel either proud or dread over the decisions you made your Sims do. The Soundtrack is still so memorable two decades later, with it helping to define Americana culture of the 1950s. People would talk about how many days they would consume playing this game alone; it's that addicting. Personally, I think that the Sims 3 is the best iteration of the series in terms of innovation and the level of content it contributes to the series, but the first Sims game is the most influential of the franchise for me and for many others, it helped make EA a very prosperous AAA gaming juggernaut which I believe they took for granted.
#1 Persona 4 Golden: This list was so hard to make because I played so many types of games over the years, so many favorites over the years. But this game impacted me so much as a young college student back in the day. The characters are so relatable that I see myself in everyone of them, including the MC. The story and its themes reminds me of the potential video games have as a medium to tell a good narrative. This statement is true even with a Persona sequel that recently took the world by storm. It mixes the monster collecting mechanic of Pokemon with the time management and relationship building mechanics of most visual novel games perfectly. It further improves on all of these aspects from the original Persona 4 game for the PS2 with adding more content as well as balancing on some battle mechanics. I really wish that I could've played this game when it originally came out in 2008 (PS2) even with it having some issues, but I'm glad that I bought the PS Vita so that I could eventually play the updated version.
I know that I should have listed only 5 influential games, but it was so hard to do so!!! I've already said that I played so many games in my life so thus I couldn't handle myself. There's a lot of honorable mentions that I didn't listed but I can add them in supplemental comments. Thanks for reading everyone!

1: Spore. It was an amazing creative outlet that helped me through some tough times. I remember as a young kid watching videos of other people's creations and content before I had a pc to play the game on. Revisiting the editors from time to time with mods is still really fun.
2: Fossil Fighters Champions. All time favorite ds game. Its like pokemon but with dinosaurs and a really fun story. It was my first time being super invested in a game story and getting hit by a plot twist. It also solidified my interest in dinosaurs
Not sure about my other picks, but would probably pick Terraria, GTA 4 or 5 for all the dumb scenarios I would get myself into while screwing around, which always gave me and my friends a good laugh even when times get tough. I'd also probably have pokemon white which was my first ever pokemon game.

All these games are my introduction to gaming in general, the very first games i played.
    1. Kingdom hearts (all)
    2. Epic Mickey
    3. All lego games
    4. Thrillville (off the rails)
    5. Wii sports resorts
Its a very weird selection for me but i wasnt fond of online games all that much so here are the (shortened) reasons why
    5. It helped me bond with my dad. We already got along just fine, better than my mom, and we just really bonded over frisbee golf (cause he use to play it) and ping pong/table tennis.
    4. Thrillville off the rails was one of the first ps2 games I played and I honestly loved it and still do. Yes there are better rollercoaster games but it introduced me to proper controller mechanics and the idea of bonding with characters.
    3. The lego games were games me and my brother played. Indiana jones, starwars, the smaller ones and even the forgotten online lego game. Me and my brother use to get along really well but we grew apart and now its really awkward between us, so i often look back on the good times with the Lego series.
    2. Epic mickey helped me express my creativity and the fact they played with the idea of choice really stuck with me. You can choose to help others, and i always did. Even today i never had a file where i used thinner.
    1. Kingdom hearts, my all time favorite game franchise. It has its flaws, as all games do. But these games.. they are like a friend to me. A family. My late childhood years (8-12) i had a really rough time in school with mental issues making themselves apparent and lack of social acceptance with teachers and classmates. Not to mention my brother drifting away from me who was a major anchor for me. I was lonely without really realizing it and to this day it has such a massive effect on me. I still struggle with anxiety and abandonment issues, monophobia and the likes. But i found comfort in Kingdom Hearts. When the 3rd game came out, before i even put it in the ps4 and i just held the case i was already sobbing. Cried for 10 minutes and another 20 while listening to the new but familiar tune of dearly beloved. It was beautiful and.. it just really shaped my life. What my mom lacked in kingdom hearts made up. Lessons about trust and being there for others. Loss and tragedy, abuse and manipulation. It may be a kids game but it isnt just a kids game.
These games opened up the world of gaming for me. I fell in love with minecraft immediately when it came out as well though i dont play it as much now. Infact i found my lover through it though id thank more so roleplay than minecraft. I fell in love with undertale and its unique story telling, yea sure the very loud part of the fandom is sketchy and borderline asylum patients but the quiet majority all agree that the game itself is beautiful.
There are so many games out there and everyone loves games for their own reasons. Be it completionists or story drivers and both and all are right. There is no wrong way to love a game. Even the "rabid fanbases" are in the right (except for those who threaten or put people in harm due to it). They give our creative fanart and fanfics and their own takes on the game.
The love of videogames is beautiful, the fandoms in the world in general are beautiful. Its not just videogames. Tv shows, movies, books, games. All the creativity- its beautiful and wonderful and thats why i look so fondly apon everything ive been into. From my little pony, to kingdom hearts, to warriors, to creepy pasta. Its amazing to see it all! The world of fandoms in general is such an amazing experience if you have the right one. And if you can excuse the bad ones, forgive the ignorance of the loud minority who gate keep and you sneak past them, its such an amazing thing.
My introduction to Undertale was rough: it was an art website and they were drawing "underswap" characters and i didnt know. I asked what it was and they kicked me from the room which hurt yes, but i researched what it was and found undertale. Watched Jackcepticeye play it and fell in love. Traveled through the fanbase with fanfics and AUs and art and music. The undertale musical was amazing! The orchestra made me so happy cause this shy small game developer was getting so much recognition with a game he thought didnt deserve it. And despite the sans stans and the rough introduction and the gatekeepers i still love it.
Cant believe im spilling out my inner thoughts on youtube of all places really- but noone really cares what i think irl and most probably wont here either. But for those who do thankyou for reading this, and listen to me rant about my love for pretty much everything. Its not all of it, i can never completely explain how i see the world- thats an impossible feat ill sadly never be able to overcome cause i would adore to share exactly how i see everything. For now though, this will have to do.

I know that I technically didn’t play the touhou project games in 2016 but I just want to say that the touhou project games were a sentimental video game indie franchise that helped me morn the lose of my favorite grandpa properly because when I first discovered the touhou project games in 2016. Oh and I just want to add that the first Pokémon game I had in my life Pokémon fire red for the gameboy advance and it was the Pokémon game that got me into the Pokémon games and franchise in the first place.edit2: I almost forgot to say that super smash bro’s melee was my first fighting game in general to the point where I ended up getting almost all of the super smash bro’s games with the exception of the Wii U version.edit3: I am really sorry for my amount of edits on this RUclips comment but I have two final influential video games in my life are the legend of Zelda the wind waker and Mario party 7 because I used to play Mario party 7 with my friends I had back then and the legend of Zelda the wind waker was the first legend of Zelda game I played in my life and it was one of my first first party video games I ever owned on the Nintendo GameCube.

For me, my top 5 most influential games would be here.
    (5) Team Fortress 2.
My first introduction into the cesspit of online multiplayer, hanging out with friends, messing around, so on and so forth; making hundreds of memories to reminisce on forever to me.
    (4) Payday 2.
A mess of a Swedish, badly coded cesspit of messing around, doing random stuff while murdering hundreds of cops and messing around and having a ball with people from around the world. Yeah, similar to last but still has pretty similar reasons, but still enjoyable.
    (3) Chex Quest.
Yeah, this is gonna be out of left field, but here me out. It’s a fun, surprisingly good and well made; quirky reskin of Doom, with team of surprisingly passionate developers, and was my first introduction into gaming.
    (2) Mario Bros.
Yeah. I’m going to gush the hell out of this. A refined, well polished and difficult as hell 2D masterpiece. And. Just incredibly enjoyable.
    Drumroll please…..
    *bad drum sfx*
    (1) Resident Evil 2.

Persona 3 is my biggest influence as a gamer. Before then, I didn't think very highly of the RPG genre. I liked Pokemon a lot and FFX was pretty cool, but it felt more like the combat was padded out as a means to an end for storytelling. Persona 3 taught me that RPGs can be challenging and engaging, that they can be difficult and force you to understand game systems in order to succeed. Its narrative was also important to me as a developing teenager, that while the world can seem like a nihilistic nightmare, it's still worth finding the positives in life and living to your fullest. Most importantly it turned me into a masochist who can only enjoy RPGs on the hardest difficulties and has opened the doors to me seeking out more obscure ass games in general.

On WoW, you missed all the fun of Everquest 1. No voice chat, no raid interface limiting you to 40 people, introverts trying to be social. Grinding groups was how you got experience for levels. Hell levels requiring 5 times XP to level up. Good times.

Dark Souls Remastered - love the story & themes in this one. The feeling of discovery is reflected in the gameplay and story
Hollow Knight - in my opinion the best metroidvania, tho it was also my first. I have since played the classics in the genre and I find none as enjoyable or interesting
Animal Crossing New Leaf - fun to incorporate into your daily routine
Stardew Valley - super satisfying progression in a cozy package
Celeste - my favorite platformer. The 2D Mario games are too slippery for me, and donkey games make you repeat too much content as you struggle on a level. The no lives, instant restarts, precise controls, sky high skill ceiling, the ost, the story. So good

The game that probably changed my life more than anything else was probably Red Faction.
It was the first FPS I'd ever played, and it was a damn good one. It was also the first game I'd played with split screen multiplayer.
It was actually one of the first fully 3D games I played period, and the destructible environments were so cool, and for a long time I just thought that was how 3D games were, because why wouldn't they be?
    How wrong I was...
Honestly, I still to this day wish more games did destructible environments like Red Faction did. Even Red Faction 2 didn't get it quite right, and I was really disappointed by it.

I’m weird in that I readily know my single number one most influential game. Like I don’t have any doubts. It’s actually extending it to a top five that I really struggle with.
Mega Man 3. Hands down. I loved the first Mega Man as a kid, and got to Mega Man 2 on the late side, but Mega Man 3 was where my love of the franchise exploded. My brother and I would run around the basement as kids pretending to be Mega Man, mimicking his run cycle, his jump movements, even the way his arm moved when he threw a weapon. We would draw our own Robot Masters (but being little kids at the time, our Robots were pretty dumb like Olympics Man or Plunger Man), we watched the Ruby Spears cartoon, all of it.
I still hold on to my Mega Man fanboy status to this day, over thirty years later. I listen to the music, I replay the old games, I collect plastic baubles, on and on and on. Mega Man is my all-time favorite game character, and it all goes back to Mega Man 3.

For me, my top 5 would probably be
    5. Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask - I just love how dark the atmosphere of the game is compared to other Zelda games. Termina is a world where I'm not the hero prophesised to save it. It's a world falling apart, and I get to experience the lives of everyone in it, trying desperately to help everyone.
    4. Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse - These two really shaped my views of the world. Things aren't black and white. Both of your choices in these games are really terrible, but if you play for both sides, and try to understand the good and bad of each, you can find a third way where you truly fight for a world where everyone can be at peace.
    3. The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - This was one where I just got sucked into the world and lore. When I finished the main quest, I was so into RPing as my character that I felt hurt for every character that had died in the final few battles.
    2. Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage - Spyro 1 was the very first game I've ever played, and the first memory I can remember. But as a kid, I didn't take care of my games, and Spyro 2 was the only Spyro game after a while that worked, so I played it the most. This is just pure nostalgia for me.
    1. Persona 3 - This game got me through depression in high school. I had lost a lot of people in my life around the same time, and it kind of gave me a midlife crisis at age 15/16. Persona 3 touched on all the themes about life and death that I needed to hear. I feel like I owe a lot to that game. Even now, when I'm hurting over something, going back and playing it can give me some insight, whether it's through the actual themes of the story, or just relating gameplay mechanics to what I'm going through. This is one that's special to me, and I genuinely want a lot more people to try it, so maybe they can feel the same things I feel for this game.

For me, one of the top 3 games is Sly Cooper, from 1-4. I really enjoy the cut scenes and the art, it makes me wanna progress the story. Also despite the game being called Sly Cooper, I love how the other cast get their main character moment, especially Bentley. This is the first game that really amazed me, no joke, the effort put into the visuals of Thieves in Time made me gasp. Plus I really enjoy watching the Cooper gang's relationship develop and grow. I got to know more about them as I play the game.

    My top five:
    1. Creature in the Well: You're a robot engineer that fixes a weather machine using pinball-esk puzzles. That's the surface level. In actuality, the game is about fear, depression, and pressing on when it seems like the world is against you. More people need to play this game.
    2. To the Moon: fantastic story, simple visuals, and lavish music. It made me cry and showed me how to seamlessly change genres from scary to sad.
    3. Pokémon Pearl: My first and only Pokémon game. Everyone knows how much these games can impact you, and my experience was no different. Piplup gang!
4.Sly 3: Had the game since childhood, and it took me replaying the game now to realize I never actually left the first world. I just kept running around the seemingly endless hub world of Venice. The controls and freedom of exploration made me feel like Assassin's Creed before that was even a thing I knew about.
    5. Crush Crush: I would be lying if I said this game didn't take up an embarrassingly large amount of my high school life. Cute girls, nice graphics, and a simple dating sim that strangely ensnared me.

The Guilty Gear but is almost verbatim my story with Dead or Alive 2.
Never been big on fighting games. Played the shit out of street fighter 2 in the SNES, but that was just because it was one of the few games we had at the time.
But when I picked up the Dead or Alive 1+2 Ultimate pack for the Xbox, something just clicked. I didn't care that it was a fighting game and I never really liked fighting games. It just worked. It felt good to play. It handled completely differently than any other fighting game I'd played up to that point
And more over, IT HAD A TRAINING MODE!
My big gripe with fighting games up to then was that you couldn't practice them. You had to just learn as you played, getting your ass kicked the whole time. And DOA2 had a practice mode that just gave you a static opponent to practice combos on. That was revolutionary to me at the time. Absolute game changer.
And then a few years later high school rolled around and I didn't really have time for it, and haven't really played a fighting game since. Been thinking about picking up Dead or Alive 5, since I've heard a lot of bad stuff about 6.

I'm not a huge gamer or whatever. I grew up playing those CD ROM I Spy games on the family computer. It wasn't until college that my boyfriend got me into gaming as a way to feel less lonely when I was away from home.
As a result, Saber's speech about WoW really resonated with me. EverQuest 2 was my game, though. I started in 2015 and spent WAY too many hours in that world. But Norrath was so immersive, the music was beautiful in some zones, and being able to just run around and gather, focus on quests and lore, or fight was enough to keep me engaged. I met a few good people on that game, though I don't routinely speak to any of them.
Nonetheless, EQ2 will always stand as my #1 most impactful game. It got me through some hard times. Created some, as well, but hey, that's life on the internet.

I haven't a clue how to sort this list, but I gotta have Minecraft, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Pokemon (as a franchise) on this list for me. Minecraft is so integral to my childhood that I wouldn't have met my partner of seven years without it. We went to the same school but had never really talked, and never would have if not for a Minecraft server. Fire Emblem was my first real introduction to JRPGs proper, and I literally have over 500 hours on my first save. It kept me going during a really dark time in my life, too. And Pokemon...Idk if I'd be alive today without Pokemon. I was bullied so much as a kid for liking things that "girls shouldn't like" and I really leaned into collecting the TCG, playing the games (I actually ended up buying my first gaming console entirely bc my best friend had let me play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team on her Gameboy Advance.) Pokemon was a constant for me. And it still is. I've been to multiple midnight releases. Multiple Pokemon oriented events. Done competitive play and casual play. Shiny hunted, Nuzlocked, co-opped with my friends. Even just a few weeks ago when BDSP dropped, my roommate and I (Me with Pearl, him with Diamond) started our journeys at the exact same click of a button. This franchise is endlessly special to me. And without it, not only would I not be here today, but I wouldn't be who I am today either.

Happy to hear you finally got into Nioh Tom :D. The dev cycle of Nioh is not as famous as other titles who languished in development hell for a while, but the original did spend like a decade between announcement and release, so that might be the reason for some of the jank and certain lack of polish. Despite all of that it's still a phenomenal game and one that's also quite influential for me. On one hand it got me into the soulslike genre much like it did for Tom, but more importantly it fulfilled my long held desire to really get into a Diablo-like loot game. I tried a lot over the years with Torchlight, Adventures of Van Helsing and Titan Quest to get into that genre, but none of them really stuck with me, even if I played them for a good while. Nioh finally had a combat system that truly grabbed me and I spent hundreds of hours trying to complete all missions on all difficulties (which I abandoned, because the final DLC boss is fucking horseshit).
BTW Tom, if you're craving even more Nioh, Nioh 2 is Nioh but more polished, more balanced and basically better in every way. I have a 100 hours more in that game and it is still something I go back to to slowly work on every once in a while, it's just so good! My favourite thing is doing random co-op and helping out others, it just makes me feel good.

    My top 5 games are:
    1. infamous series, the one made by sucker punch and it helped propel me into video games as a whole besides Pokémon and I just love the ideas it brought like realistic situations, people, and ways that the superpowers can be utilized a bit realistically. I wish there were more games that delve into superpowers and stuff like that. (Also hand in hand with Ghosts of Tsushima since it’s made by same people)
    2. Kingdom hearts series, started when my mom got me a psp with birth by sleep and I’ve been hooked ever since. My mom even beat one of the early bosses playing as aqua against the pumpkin carriage boss and then Mickey Mouse shows up and the rest is history. Yes it’s a bit childish but the lore is a bit dark then you might expect but overall most of the games are fun.
    3. Destiny, yes the one by bungie has also helped me get into video games especially multiplayer games. Another way that powers and space magic are used in unique ways, when it works it’s so much fun I don’t really have much else to say about it.
    4. World of Warcraft, saw my older cousin play it on his old computer and I was enthralled. Sadly had to wait till BFA to play it properly without a starter account but I love playing as a paladin which is funny cause my favorite color is blue and I’m not very religious at all but second favorite is death knight. Sadly over the years I’m sure you’ve heard of Activision Blizzard and all their fiascos but still wanting to get back into it when I get a better computer.
    5. Wii sports/wii sports resort, literally hours of play time along with Pokémon revolutions and smash bros brawl made me love the wii even if it’s not the best for some and it is rose tinted glasses.

This video got me thinking about games that I forgot I played. Back when I was a kid, I wasn't really a gamer. I had a bit of fun with sim city and roller-coaster tycoon, the sims and star wars battlegrounds. But I didn't really know what I was doing. It wasn't until I was like 20 and my house mate has as ps3 and he was playing Skyrim, I was like "what's this? Can I have a go?" 3 hours later he told me to buy my own 😅 I went out, got a ps3 with Assassins Creed 2 and Skyrim and one of the CoD games. The most played game in that first year was Assassins Creed Brotherhood. I had gone back and played the previous instalments but Brotherhood was the first time I was up gaming for more then 12 hours, the first game I completed 100%. After that I didn't get so hooked until Destiny came out. I remembered playing Halo at friends houses on and off when I was younger but Destiny was that scifi game hit I had missed as a kid.
My wife bought me a switch for my birthday years ago and I got Links Awakening and Dead Cells on that, man, whole days were lost on those two games. I wasn't convinced I'd get into either one but boy was I wrong 😅
The only other game that I can say stood out to me was pokemon X and Y. X was the first I played of the series and I was hooked. I replayed it so many times, none of the other pokemon games have gotten me that hooked.
There have been lots of other games I enjoyed and some I really enjoyed but the ones I finish are the ones I know I loved. I don't get much time these days to play games, so I'm very sparing with my choices in titles. Right now I'm playing AC Valhalla, but mostly because I play all AC games. It's good, I'm having fun with it, between that and Cyberpunk 2077 my itch is scratched, for now.

heres 5 games perosnally have influenced me and how, not in any order they have equally left a lasting impression on me
    1: Minecraft
who dosent have nostalgia playing minecraft on a cool 2012 summer night, i played both pc and on xbox with my friends and we spent hours
2: Worlds Adrift (it no longer exists rip foundation and its travellers)
the reason for this one is weird, worlds adrift is a 3rd person mmo, the gameplay revolved around exploration gathering recources ship building and player interaction, it was very unique but floating islands were made by players in the steam work shop with an island creator tool you get when you buy the game, the devs would pick out islands and add them the the enourmous map separated by weather walls, certian islands combined with the graphics reminded me of dreams id have when i was very young when they wearnt vivid nightmares which is probably why it left a lasting impression on my because those dreams left a lasting impression on me, the game died beacuse it was unstable wasent making enough money and was built on propriatary tech banned by unity making the game truly dead, but the game was a very unique experience and their is currently a clone being made by fans called Voids Adrift. hopfully it live up to worlds adrift and better
    COD zombies frachise
not much to say here just spent hours playing COD BO zombies with my friends and dad because he introduced me to games in the first place
    Halo franchise
another game my dad introduced me too and was a huge fan i remember watching him play campaign and playing with him and weve even played through them again waiting for coop to come out, me and my friends also spent hours playing halo mp
tie between Paper Mario tyd and Super Paper Mario
its been over a decade since i played tyd but i fondly remember playing it not knowing what to do as well as later and a little older but still over a decade ago enjoying Super Paper mario and its art style and story and i just played it again on an emulator cuz its probably the only wii game you can play on an emulator without a wii controller

My Top 5 would have to be:
    5. Ori and the Blind Forest - Easily one of the most polished games I've played in recent years. From the beautiful art style to the incredibly tight controls to the emotional story, Ori fired on all cylinders on its first outing and even though Will of the Wisps elevated everything to new heights, Blind Forest is my personal favorite because it was the one that completely came out of left field to make me love the series.
    4. Dark Souls - This one's cheating a bit because it's the trilogy as a whole. Now I do have my personal favorite, but I feel like I can't play one without playing the others. I was curious about these games but also very apprehensive about 'em too because of the trolling community and the difficulty debate, but I was becoming burnt out on RPGs as whole due to excessive playthroughs. One day, I bought Dark Souls II and it just rekindled something in me that RPGs like Fallout and Mass Effect no longer could reach: I was immersed in everything. Over time, I played the rest of the trilogy and my love for RPGs is back in full swing.
    3. The Witcher 3 - I didn't get to truly experience this game until the pandemic first started. I played bits of it, liked it but then shelved it to play at a later date. Well, the pandemic hit and because I couldn't really do much, I finally had the time to sit down and play it...and I'm glad I did. I may not have followed Geralt's journey from the start, but Witcher 3 felt like I was a stranger that still managed to connect with Geralt, his friends and the world around him despite just stumbling into everything.
    2. Shadow of the Colossus - This game comes up numerous times in the "Are Video Games Art" discussions and it very much belongs there. The minimalistic approach to storytelling with a literal handful of key characters, the morally ambiguous actions of our main character, the bare world that is home to only the colossi to give the players an opportunity to reflect on their journey thus far in between battles and the underlying mystery of the colossi themselves all wrapped up in a neat little package.
    1. Chrono Trigger - I was a SNES kid, but I don't truly remember playing Chrono Trigger during that time. I didn't truly experience it til a few years ago and I gotta say that Kid Me would've never appreciated this game. This is JRPG perfection with an amazing time traveling story, deeply written characters, incredible soundtrack and a combat system that no other game could ever replicate. This game demonstrated what the SNES was truly capable of.
    Honorable mentions:
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
    Super Mario 64
    ICO
    Dishonored
    Spec Ops: The Line
    Red Dead Redemption
    Mass Effect trilogy

The story in Ace Combat is always surprisingly good military fiction. It can seem kinda goofy and anime a lot of the time, but when you go back and play other arcade flying games like Hawx and Project Wingman, you realize how good the storytelling and world building in AC is by comparison.

I quit all PvP games because it's almost always only fun for the winner
Even if i win, i feel bad for the side loosing, i get no joy from them anymore and it's just bad design if EACH match half the players are not having fun.
Coop games however, those are golden

I find it pretty funny that we are around the same age but I did not played any of the games on the list.
    My top would be
5 Killing Floor, I played around 820 hours because it was the only game I had for like three years
4 Spiderman PS1 (I played it on my moms PC)
    3 RE4 on PS2
    2 Batman Arkham Asylum
1 Batman Arkham Knight, after playing this one on the new laptop I bought with my own money I became a "Pretty Graphics" Fanboy

For me, I'd still need to pare it down, but they're all RPGs, afaik. And at least one is trickier to determine: Final Fantasy 7 or 9, since 7 was my first, but 9 is the one I was more invested in. Dragon Quest 7 might also count a way too, since that was also my first Dragon Quest (7 is weirdly common as a number for me in places)
Threads of Fate, Brave Fencer Musashi, Wild ARMs, Dark Cloud, there's only a slight common factor of Squaresoft (pre merger, which I didn't know about until I graduated high school practically). BFM might be in the top 10, not quite top 5.

For my list I would have to say:
    1. Anyland
Never heard of that haven't you? wouldn't blame you, super obscure, like really really obscure, but it by far is one of the most influential games for me, I can't imagine what I would be now without it. It is a VR creation multiplayer game released in 2016. It has basic primitives, vertex editing, textures, state based animation, and a basic easy to use scripting system. It is kindof badly put together, full of bugs, glitches, and insecurities, but the idea behind it, and a lot of the execution, is amazing, it allows for easily making simple objects and avatars and there really isn't anything else like it. It inspired me to make things and thanks to it I am starting to be a pretty ok 3D artist. But what elevates it even further is the community, although there are very few of us we are very tightly knit and know eachother very well. I have always had social issues and this social outlet helped me a lot and I now consider many members of the community very close friends despite not meeting face to face. Many members of the community have recently migrated to a newer creation game called Neos because we feel like we have outgrown the limitations of Anyland and it has also become a bit unstable, working in Neos is great and has so much more freedom, but I do sometimes feel like there is something missing when compared to what made anyland so special. So Anyland, just a little broken early VR game, is by far, the most impactful and influential game I have ever played. It's free on steam, you can try it out, look at what we did, it even has a basic desktop mode so you don't need VR to take a look around, but I can't guarantee you will find anyone online.
    2. Minecraft
I know, basic, but it was one of the first games I played in general and supplied so much enjoyment for me early on, I don't play as much now, but still have fun every time I launch the game.
    3. Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2's campaign is one of the first examples I can think of where a game story really impacted me emotionally. I won't say anything because I don't want to spoil anything, even though it's a 5 year old game, just in case. plus the gameplay is amazing too.
    4. prey (2017)
It's a really great game and I absolutely love it, I love the setting, the enemies, the story, the immersive sim gameplay freedom, it's all amazing, also one of the most recently discovered on this list, since I first played it near the end of summer 2020, which is still...... almost 1.5 years ago...... fuck.
    5. undertale
I mean what can I say that hasn't been said already, it's undertale, if you haven't played it yet, you should, if you are the type of person who says they hate it despite never actually playing because of the (admittedly bad) fandom, reconsider, I know multiple people who gave similar reasons and loved it when they actually played it.
    Honorable mentions:
Oneshot: an amazing game with many paralels to undertale, only played it very recently though, so it doesn't have as much of the nostalgia for me as undertale
Buddy simulator 1984: a very unique and innovative game. definitely don't want to spoil this one, best played blind
Outer wilds: An absolutely breathtaking space exploration game, especially when played with the very well made NomaiVR mod, which adds VR support to the game
Honestly after the first one, this was a pretty difficult list to make, and a lot of the ranking was kindof arbitrary

I don't have any games that influenced me to a huge degree. I made a list, then realized those were just my favorites. I don't know if I have _any_ games that influenced me, when I really think on it.
I have a lot of games that I really like, but I can't think of them changing me in some way... I just found games I thought were more in line with my own interests. I know who I am, very well, so I didn't need outside sources to help me figure anything out.

    My top 3 (I can't decide on 5)
    1. Kingdom Hearts 2: My favorite game of all time, even if it and the series as a whole aren't perfect. It came at a time in my life I was in the middle of an identity crisis. I connected to Roxas in a way I've never connected to a character before. This is also the game that developed my love for boss fights.
    2. Breath of the Wild: I love Zelda, and this is my favorite Zelda game. The game that got me hooked on the idea of open worlds. I just had such a blast exploring Hyrule.
    3. Deltarune: My favorite indie game. Made me connect with meta-narritves, and had me began to question the exact nature of what I was playing.
