- A review of the best VFR, the 6th gen VFR 800 VTEC.
I actually put the bike to to test. Riding fast. Riding in the wet. Riding at night. Riding on all sorts of roads.
Here is my ultimate review of the VFR 800.

In the video I mentioned the stator can go, it's actually some of the electrical wiring around the charging system, which you can check quite easily and there are kits you can buy online for less than £100 to permanently fix this issue. If you ignore the issue, that leads to further issues with the stator etc.

Wonderful review. I pick up a 2014 next Friday. Only has 4600 miles. It's pearl white and beautiful. Thanks for giving me something to look forward too!
I've got a red '14. I can't wait for the weather to get a little nicer to ride again.
Rode one for 3 years, did 600km runs at a time. I 'd suggest upgrading the rear shock and changing the front springs for stronger units.
At 71 years old, I’ve been riding for over fifty years; presently own four nice bikes. Been trying to sell my ‘09 fully farkled six gen VFR for two years now and I can’t do it. Every time I write up the ad, I take it for a ride and then decide it shan’t be done! Is “shan’t” the word? Bottom line - unless you plan to keep it, beware of buying a VFR!
Yes mate, great bikes, I've moved to a Hayabusa for a while but I do expect in the future I'll probably get another VFR, just hoping they make a sporty version
Great review dude, love it, much more straight to the point than most other reviews and you actually give the bike some beans which shows us what its really capable of :)
Great vid StormTEC, I've got an 11 plate 6th gen & just love that V4 engine, so much so that I went & got a 20 plate vfr800X crossrunner too, best of both worlds.
I love your final thoughts.
Make sense
Hi! Great rewiew! I got 2 weeks ago Honda vfr 2014 model and I love it!!!👍👍
Great breakdown of a great bike!
Well done. Captures bikes description very well. Spot on re future sportier vfr with gear driven timing….more revs with longevity.
I have a 2001 so gear driven cams. I put ABM Straight bars on, very comfortable. Also Givi windshield and x-tra on top, excellent wind protection. Went up 2 teeth on rear. I'm 64 and light weight so it goes really well for me.
How did you find going up 2 teeth on the rear?
@@StormTEC It gives it more toughe, you can tell difference. I really like it. Also I've read where changing the front sprocket going down in size is not advisable, puts to much wear on shaft so if you try , go to sprocket center and get 520 conversion , I choose nickel finish really nice. They set up is lighter. Good luck.
I had an 03 one for 2 years and commuted on it daily, loved it, sold it, and regretted it. But as mentioned in the video, she's a heavy beast (260kg wet from what I remember), so something to be aware of. I'd recommend one of these in a second to anyone who wants a really great all round bike.
Great video! And what a shot at 6:00!
It felt like I could walk over and grab that rainbow
Well said. Spot on! Perfect review.
i adore mine with over 100k miles, starts and rides just like the day i got it. i only wish they made a 1000cc version with the same pannier and tank size unlike the 1200
1200 VFR sounds like a BMW 1200ST (Boxer), beats the entire idea of a V4 engine
Nunca tuvo problema de inyección? La mia se ahoga al acelerarla a fondo pero no apaga solo deja de acelerar 😔
Niceeeeeee!..I LOVE the sound!
Excellent roads around Elan Valley and Mid Wales! Great impatrtial review on roads and conditions I normally ride in. I regret not getting this model, instead plumping for a Fazer Thou for my winter commute/touring hack. Tempted to chop in my Fazer for a VFR, but want to get people's opinions from owners/riders who have spent plenty of time on both. My spring/summer daily is my 07 R1.
VFR is used a lot by winter commuters and couriers, etc. Probably more suitable for commuting than a sport bike, Avon Storm 3D tyres are the first ones I had and I reached 150 in the pouring rain xD
My dream bikes are fireblades! A V4 fireblade would be my ultimate dream bike!!!!!!!!
Great video, really done well to explain your bike and god damn would i love an inline 4 one day. Do you ever plan on moving on from this bike or do you think you'll be keeping it for years to come? Looks like a great all rounder but i'd love something a little more sporty
It's a v4 engine configuration, not a inline 4. Hence why it sounds amazing. I have an 02 vtec myself excellent motorcycle.
Good question, I'd like to try the new Hayabusa, but I don't think that could directly replace this bike and I think the VFR can do more things easier than the Hayabusa.
I was also thinking about getting a Fireblade as a sport bike too, but if I swapped to a Fireblade from the VFR then I wouldn't want to take long trips to Scotland or Europe on it, for example.
The VFR is a great middle ground because today I can go to a twisty road, where a sport bike is fun, and tomorrow I can ride 4 hours to Cornwall with no issues like a touring bike can do.
So no plans to completely get rid of it this year at least, but I might be able to pick up another bike and just have 2.
Thats what I did ... VFR800 for Spirited Twisty 500 to 800kms Breakfast Runs... 2010 Cross Plane R1 for Serious Twisties and Kawasaki Concours(1400GTR) for touring ... Three bikes for the price of one New Hyabusa ....Gotta love the Hyabusa regardless tho ...
I've had a 96 VFR750, and I've been changing bikes over the years, because I like to experiment other models, and I still have the feeling that the VFR was the best out of all of them, it was so good, even beeing a carbed bike, so confy, worked so well, never gave me a problem, sold it with around 70k miles.
I've heard the problem with most Hondas is the Regulator/rectifier, even my VFR had that problem, had to change it.
The gear driven cams, as far as I know, were removed because of noise restrictions on cars and bikes (in Europe at least), so to make the bike quieter, they've removed the gear driven cams.
Thanks for that, yeah the electrical issue seems to stem from the reg/rec which then kills the stator.
Gonna double check if mine has been done in the service histroy this weekend and if not I think I'll have to get it done this year, just over 25k miles now. Might take a long Europe trip and would hate for it to die when I'm not near home.
Such a shame they moved away from the gear driven cams, too many regulations these days.
I haven't been on a 750 yet but definitely plan to at least once when I can!
@@StormTEC I've heard people doing mods to their regulators, like adding a fan to cool it down (It seems the problem with them, is that they heat up so much, that they eventually fry), although I never tried it out myself, so I don't know if it works or not. And some people even changed them to Yamaha ones, or Kawasaki ones (It seems they don't heat up as much), but you need to adapt the connections, as far as I know.
Your VFR is probably smoother than the older ones, but I was still impressed by how smooth and confortable it was, I actually got really surprised, riding at night was really good too, the stock lights are very bright, riding slowly was actually very easy and very economical on the gas too. The only downside is that it was more expensive on the maintenance, since the engine is more complex, but still not a big deal.
Gear driven cams also cost much more than a chain, probably weigh more, and more noise. 6th gen has numerous things done to reduce noise including the intake flapper and vtec
i love my 07 interceptor it rounds off nicely with my 02 1000 gtxr
Yeah your right honda should anther RC 30 update In the 800 class. The rc30 was brilliant made me look good.
Nice review! I have an '05 and love it. What gear are you wearing
Thanks man, yeah great biks!
Just some generic leather gear I bought online. Sometimes I wear a textile jacket if it's really cold.
Tested out the leathers by sliding down the road and they held up well, look like the terminator now, would recommend leathers!
My dad picked up an 02 model with 50k on the clock for 2k, with some nice GPR end cans - let me ride it too and man do i love that sound, its also fast (especially compared to my MT125 lmao). Any ideas on what sorta MPG figures you get, as my dad's seems to get high 30's to low 40's even when being ridden gently.
Great video :)
I never really tracked the MPG but I think it was about 40 if you kept it below the VTEC line. V4s drink a lot of petrol i think
stock ones are very heavy too, i put the delkivics on mine and i noticed the weight difference straight away
Wow really stock cans that heavy
@daniswift415 yeah they're quite heavy, being under the seat you'd definitely notice too
@@shaneryan9076 so it's a win win not very often u get one them ha ha
Great review, wherebis that waterfall at 6:20 please?

Sweet bike!
What do you think will be better for first bike :
Honda VFR 800 VTEC or Yamaha Fazer 1000
Looking to buy my first bike next week, and being curious for this type of bikes as I'm a tall person
Probably the VFR
is that a custom paintwork??. It looks sweet.
Yeah it is =)
I have a bad few words, getting it on the cenre stand is a pita.
11:56 well you actually can and there is such a bike. Its called aprilia tuono v4 :)
Elan Valley....nice
hey bro, did you had any electronic issues? i have a gen 6 as well, while i was ridding my bike died out and now battery is dead
None for me but there is a common issue with the stator (the thing that charges the battery)
the charging system on these 2003 onwards are fine but theres ground blocks and a few other connections in the system that cause these bikes renound electric issues. check my videos i have several on the matter
I have been riding a 125 for last 2 years. I got my full license, is this a good first big bike ?
Congrats dude, it will be a fine first big bike in my opinion. The weight might take a little getting used to, and take it easy on the speed for a while as well, a lot faster than a 125 and it wont tip into corners as fast, so you need a good few months to get used to it.
@@StormTEC thanks for the advice
I would say that a VFR800 is a big jump up in size on riding a motorcycle from a 125cc. Keep in mind that there is hardly any room for error when you ride a bike like the VFR800. The bike is a great bike, fast, very comfortable, and reliable. In my opinion, the VFR800 is not a good beginner bike. A beginner rider needs more room for error in case they make a mistake on the road.
Buy an RC30.
Nice review, cheers.
what tyres are you running mate?
Previously Avon Storm 3D that came with the bike, they were great, no complaints even when they were very worn.
Now running Michellin Pilot Roads
Will get Pilot Road 6s when these run out
Done 130,000 kms on 1999 version. Still sweet and no work
VFR 800 FI or VFR 800 VTEC?
Vtec
I once made the mistake of parking my vfr front wheel first on a downslope. Stupid mistake as the bike is VERY heavy
Haha been there too mate, first and last time
On hitting the horn with regular sports gloves, yes i do feel like a fucking dummy honking a people for no reasons.
Just get a VTR 1000 , thats the sports bike version.
Whats a hooligan?
Someone who causes trouble and breaks the rules, might be a British term
It would be so great to put the 1200cc motor into the vfr800. But the 1200 is a shaft driven bike. That would be alot of modifications.
140 mph on wet public A/B roads, just checking if you're still alive and have all yer limbs mate.
Still here bro! Got a BUSA now
@@StormTEC Good show, sunny side up. I'm a Bbird soul myself but I feel ya. It's a crazy world.
@@spandon Hell yeah, it's been raining this whole month, but I literally can't be bothered with riding in the rain anymore ~
By the way they stopped making VFRs no more ever again..😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪They will only go up in value..😀😀😀😀😀😀Keeping my 5th Gen always..
Yes... pollution regulations are killing the motorcycle industry from making fun vehicles, at a time where all cars are going electric... they really should allow exemptions for motorbikes
@@StormTEC Well I got a VFR 1200 now lol ULEZ of course .. every silver cloud m8
Who rides like that in wet conditions?... Jeez
😂 Someone who had Avon Storm 3d tyres and ABS on their bike
Vfr1200 is easily as good sorry mate u are way off on that one!
This bike is overweight, over-hyped and over priced and under-performed. Rubbish.
I would say that depends on why you're into bikes and what you're expecting from them? If you want a sportbike that's super fast then a 600 or 1000 is the way to go and you won't want the VFR.
If you want a great tourer then something like the bmw GS or yamaha tracer would be ideal.
But if you want a bit of both then I think the VFR is perfect 👌🏻
If it's price, I've seen the older models going for £1000 and sometimes less
you know so little
Tell me you've never ridden a VFR800 without telling me.
Yep, hundreds of thousands of riders are wrong................. 🛎 end.
