- We're in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal to explore the food culture of this vibrant city and region. We start in Patan, one of the Kathmandu Valley's three cities and explore traditional Newari food. The Newar are the indigenous inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley.
We visit a local restaurant which is said to be one of the best for sampling Newari cuisine and order up a massive feast of buffalo choila, sakuti, woh, potato curry and rice beer. Then it's off to sample yomari, a traditional Newar dessert made of rice flour and stuffed with a sweet dried condensed milk filling. There are only a few spots in Kathmandu where you can sample yomari year round as it is a food that's customarily eaten to mark the end of the harvest. Finally we eat one of Nepal's national dishes- daal bhat- a rice and dal dish that has been elevated by the Thakali community into a thali style feast. 1. Newari food (choila, sukuti, sapoo micha, wo, baji, rice beer) at क्व्या: चा: (Kwacha), Kwalakhu Rd, Lalitpur 44600, Nepal. Open daily 10:00am to 8:00pm.
2. Yomari at Nandini Food Court, Swotha Rd, Lalitpur 44600, Nepal. Open daily 11:00am to 8:00pm.
3. Thakali thali (dal bhat thali) at Thakali Bhanchha Ghar, Chaksibari Marg, काठमाडौं 44600, Nepal. Open daily 8:00am to 11:00pm.

Wow, a whole range of dishes I've never seen or heard of! The fried bits with bone marrow looked amazing. Interesting cooking technique on them, too...boiled, then fried. Everything looked and sounded great, and the street shots showed a Kathmandu I've not even imagined.

From head to tail of a buffalo, nothing goes wasted everything(excluding hair, horns, bones ) is cooked into yummy dishes .

Salivating while watching your video. You guys are so excited wherever you go and whatever you are eating. Best video quality and shots. And I admire you learned few Nepali words relating to foods. Thakali daal Bhat and Newari cuisine is the best food of Nepal. Besides home made food others are more Indian influence that is more reason I love the way introducing typical Nepali (Newari) food.

Wow, what a first great bite. Love tripe and to have it stuffed with bone marrow, a sweet find. That expression on your face Sheena was exquisite. I love that you're both commenting on the same meals. Your big puppies were following your hand movements, obviously someone holds food in a similar way before giving it to them. My malamute knows when I'm going to treat him as opposed to just eating. Great video. River is ecstatic you like fried tripe. Now I got to figure out how to stuff one for her.
