Yes I usually flock the body as well. Its easier to work on birds with removeable heads because you can do two different colors the same day. I use goose grey flocking over white paint (usually) on mallard drake bodies.
Brian I learned how to do Canada geese from a gentleman named Jeff Killian. You can find him in the decoy flocker group. He took the time to produce and pay for production of a how to goose DVD he sells. So because of that I won’t be doing a honker how to. I highly recommend his video. It’s the best $15 you’ll spend if you redo your own birds.
I know it’s been a while since you’ve posted the video. But what do you clean your airbrush out with after using oil based paints, such as the rust oleum hunter green. If you could get back to me it would be greatly appreciated.
I like acetone for oils and believe it or not, windex for createx and golden acrylics. I have a video on the channel about "backwashing" which covers what you are asking. Every so often (about once a week or anytime I'm switching from acrylic to oil or vice versa, I'll tear the airbrush down completely and use citrus strip to thoroughly clean all the internals. Q-tips are handy to have on hand as well as a blow gun for your compressor to blast out hard to reach places.
Andy, my name is Darin DeNaughel. I have been blocked from the decoy flockers on FB and I have no idea how or why? I can’t search for the page anymore. Can you please help me out and see if I can get back on there? Or at least tell me why I have been booted?
All I can see is that your post was removed and you were blocked. I can't see what the post was or why. My guess would be non-flocking related stuff. We have one main admin (Hunter) and about 8-9 mods.
Couple different places: Hobby Lobby sells most colors of createx. Oils I either buy from home depot, Lowes, or Parker Paints directly. Michaels carries goldens but not many colors and only small quantities. I've ordered from both Dixie Art Supply and Dick Blick online. They carry great selections of paint and airbrush parts.
Can you give me the rundown on colors and the type of finish the colors are ?
After you clean them up and prime them are you flocking the whole body before painting and if so what color is the flocking?

I would love to see how you airbrush a drake mallard body!
Ask and receive.. should be on my channel.
Any chance you could do a honker video, particularly the body.
