Thank you for being one of the very few people that actually shoots a factory 7 PRC! There's a few videos of people shooting custom rifles. But, not everyone can afford a $5k-$7k rifle! So, keep the 7mm videos coming! 🤘🤘

Sometimes it can be the ammo you’re slinging. That’s why when I hear someone saying they’re getting or gotten half inch groups with factory ammo I’ll say great! But don’t expect that to happen after that box is done. I’ve experienced it myself too many times which is why I switched to reloading.

My 350 mossberg 350 legend will shoot like 1.5 but it's still nothing impressive. I want the mossbergd to be decent. I do. Younget a lot for your money. But as they say only accurate rifles are interesting. And with mossberg to me your gambling. As of right now 66 percent of the time I got a dud.

I really appreciate the work you're doing and do not like to leave negative comments. That being said James horner over at backfire that had a lot of the problems. A lot of this negative energy towards Mossberg comes from his videos documenting the problems he had. He like you is a well-respected gun-tuber. What is probably the case is that after watching Jim's videos, Mossberg fired the drunk guy they had doing final assembly. Mossberg is a good company that pays attention to their bad press. Like anyone they can have problems, but seem to take care of them quickly. Thank you for all your hard work and being a good dad to your family.

The backfire guy just hates this gun. I bought one in Jan. in 6.5 creed. and I am getting the same kind of results as you , with reloads. I shot a .721 with 100gr. Hornady AMX bullet. And I shot a .573 with 123gr. Hornady sst bullet. At 100 yards. And I too had 2 bullets in the same hole on both targets. So as far as I can see it is very accurate and it has the smoothest plastic mag I have ever seen. And it fits flush and it holds 5 rounds, staggered , and it doesn't bother or effect the balance or carry point when hunting in the field. Their is nothing worse than trying to carry a rifle with a big bulky mag that is hanging down right at the balance point of your rifle.

Tolerances in the chamber for the PRC is def a factor, and also like you said you've picked up some stuff from your long range course that also factors into your bench shooting now.
That being said, lots of lemons in the Patriot line, I for one got lucky with mine in 6.5CM, and with handloads I can get well under 3/4MOA with most hunting bullets. BUT, my gf's Ruger American Predator gets under 1/2 with the same loads with 5 shot groups.
I am interested in the 7mm PRC, but I picked up a 6mm CM and a 7mm-08 over the winter and that's enough load dev for me this summer to keep me busy.

Not sure why i see so many bad reviews on the Patriot in .308 but see great reviews in .243 and 7mm prc, just bought my daughter a Patriot in .243 and put a Athlon talos 24 power scope on it,yesterday at the range got it sighted in shot a couple different hand loads two different powder charges and two different bullet weights, the guns likes the 87 grain V-max loaded pretty hot 3 shot groups at 100 meters with all shots touching each other,so we went back today to stretch it's legs out to 500 meters 200,300,400 and 500 meters hitting 1/2 size silhouette's were no problem with this rifle, two things I don't like is the cheap light plastic stock which I pulled the action out of and added 8 oz's of lead to the forearm and 14 oz's to the butt and adjusted the trigger to the lightest it would go,next is the paper thin barrel couldn't get anymore then 8-10 rounds at a time though it before the barrel got to hot,I doubt the barrel life at 3300 FPS will be very long thinking around 1200 rounds this gun will be done but for 360 dollars who cares

      @ronws2007 Год назад +2

I have also seen the Backfire video. They were getting 4 and 5 inch dispersion at 100 yards. Even in the wind in the desert, it should not be that bad and there were three different shooters. That could also have been a concantenation of unlikely events. 3 people having a bad shooting day. Mossberg Patriot and Patriot Predator rifles are really light and the recoil of even the .308 Win will get you. It certainly got me. I have a Mossberg Patriot .308 Win. So, I took steps to increase comfortableness and recoil management. I put it in an MDT LSS Gen 2 Chassis, folding adapter and SCS stock. And a slip-on recoil pad. That became a 1 MOA rifle, through 60 rounds of not stopping. Which means some shots were less than 1 MOA apart. So, that sporterized fluted barrel will put with me driving it like I stole it.
The Mossberg Patriot and Patriot Predator synthetic stocks have a gap in the rear action screw guide that I think can lead to movement of the rear of the action. You will never get it torqued down to even 40 inch-pounds. I have mentioned this twice to Mossberg.
That being said, most people's experience was that it would shoot 1 to 2 MOA. That is fine on deer in your aunt's canola bean field. In fact, Backfire was the only to actually document any accuracy problems with the Mossberg Patriot. Everyone else had acceptable accuracy results. Maybe not 1k yard PRS but you will get a deer.
I got a TC Compass II in .308 Win and I put that in an Oryx chassis. But there synth stock is really good. Out of the box with not even the best ammo, the first two shots ever were .54 inches apart, which is .516 MOA. That is precise for a hunting rifle. You will only shoot twice, maybe three times on a hunt.
So, when I got my Mossberg Patriot Predator in the camo stock and Cerakote, I did not shoot in the factory stock, I put it in an Oryx chassis. And got a lesson in recoil. It is a magnum round. In fact, it uses the MDT labeled AICS mag for .300 Win Mag. So, the best one for that is the Limbsaver Airtech slip-on for 70 percent reduction. And an ASR muzzle brake.
Finally got it zero'd. Actually ready to do some groups but I have some dispersion as small as .4 inches. Again, not my "official" grouping run but looking forward to it. Now that I have the chassis dialed in and comfortable, I can set about a 3 or 5 or 10 shot group. And I highly recommend watching Hornady podcasts ep 50 and 52 and group samples being too small.
When I zero a rifle, I zero against my shoulder. In the woods, I will not have a shooting bench and bags. I will have my tripod and my shoulder. And really, we should zero and group rifles like we use them. Hunting rifles should be grouped in 3 shots and let it cool. As opposed to PRS rifles.

@@ronws2007 that's good to hear!. Admittedly, the backfire videos were the only ones I've watched on the Patriot, so it is a small sample size, but he did try more than one rifle, so I just figured that was common among the line. I'm glad to hear that isn't the case necessarily. It sounds like I might need a new rifle....lol.

@@nathenwallis5664 Backfire did get a replacement that averaged almost 1 MOA. So, they might have had a dud. @@nathenwallis5664 I should also add that I am a fan of Backfire and Jim Harmer (H is silent like the P in swimming) puts out plenty of good information. Maybe he had the one dud. My Mossberg 7 PRC is shooting just fine from the Oryx chassis. 1 two shot group (which is for hunting) measured .41 inches, which calculates to .39 MOA, using the new group analysis in Hornady app. I have Ballistic - X but it does not carry 7 mm - .284 Win. I plan to shoot larger groups for a better pattern. However, for hunting, you need precision in the first two or three shots.
And yes, it is easy to get swayed by others excitement and results. For example, the optics market. There are 1 or 2 companies to which you can be an affiliate. That is a compensated position. You don't work for the company but you rep the product and get a little kick from it. Which is being paid to sell, aka shill the product.
As opposed to my favorite optic for which I get no special compensation or recognition but it is not with the "in" crowd.

There is always gonna be someone out there downing Mossberg or Ruger or savage ext the problem is they are buying a rifle and trying one type of ammo or maybe two to three that they have had very good results in in another firearm and are basing their opinion off of that.any shooter with common sense knows every barrel is a different monster.even if it's from the same manufacturer and same model.they will shoot different indefinitely.the only way to tell if a rifle is a lemon is to try various weights and manufacturers of ammo.if you can't find one that works well in a rifle then it is a barrel problem not a rifle problem

7mm PRC = Match grade chamber simply by cartridge design. 5,000$ custom or 500$ budget rifle essentially (dimensionally) get the same chamber. Same with 6.5prc. Turns out, some cartridges ARE more accurate than others, she's a shooter nonetheless. Shooter's definitely carrying his weight as well BTW. Sweet video man, thanks

I bought a Mossberg Patriot chambered in .350 legend back in December. I had to switch the scopes because the Bushnell Banner 2 crosshair broke on me.

Most people just hear about guns being a sub moa gun and they have never pulled a trigger in a setting to check their own Groups and think anything 1.0 and up is garbage. My favorite white tail cartridge is 6mm rem. And I don't sit there and stack shots when sighting in for deer. I get it so I'm within an inch n half two inches from two shot groups usually 3-4 times and put it away until deer season. After this sub moa craze I pulled it out just to check. I don't fancy myself a sniper but a more than adequate one. And out of a Ruger M77 which in its day I paid 800 (in 2004) for so not cheap but not crazy. And two five shot groups after three shots used to re zero the scope was 1.04 and 1.13 and the amount of people that watch videos who just shoot ARs at 50 yards and mag dump while trying not to be disrespectful at the same time more or less made claim that it's not acceptable because it won't kill at 6-700 which I don't think they've ever actually looked at. Because letting two younger guys take 3 shot groups with one warm up couldn't keep it inside two inches.. most of the time it's not the gun guys.. yes it can be the gun or ammo but you need to look in the mirror first

Thanks for the video. I am very anxious to get to the range with the new Weatherby Meat Eater 307 in 7mm PRC, which I finally picked up 2 days ago. I expect to receive my Vortex ring mounts this afternoon. The rifle is supposed to have a sub-MOA guarantee. I hope it can group at least as well as your 7mm PRC.

great job, great find. always wonder why so many reviews on semi-custom latest greatest rigs for 2k$+ that shoot sub 1.0 MOA... like what else supposed to happen, it is like "reviewing" brand new 110k$ truck and concluding that it is good - I am always like: "no shyte Sherlock, I am shocked, now what?", I am more interested in these budget reviews, not that I am poor and cant afford custom 3k$ rig or two.

You really couldn’t ask for much better than both of these Hornady loads gave you, and if anyone has anything else bad to say about the Mossberg, they’re just jealous they don’t have one.
