Great tips! i didnt thinked about those scaried npcs like that, and i have done it all the time :p but right now i will do those consciiously :D it makes everything much more real :)
9:37 I don't think a clever way to go around a boss should be punished, i like player ingenuity or creativeness, and its more realistic if someone is very clever to let them of the hook, because I know punishing creative smart play dos more harm than good, not just for the game or the quest but the people too. If you face final boss than IN ANY way can be go around that was not planned, you as GM are failure, because you did not put enough work into a final boss, but that's a final boss not a an encounter a steeping stone in the story, and no even in that case you should not devuilsEXmachna the situation, you sorsold endure that flier and learn from it. To me one of the most fun episodes in Critical role was when a Ship encounter that suppose to me rough, was dealt with "control water" it was a laughing stuck of a situation and most people at that table did laugh it of, an Matt allowed it, and it made sense it was "Real" there was chance involved with high risk move. and doing around the enemy ship made the encounter memorable and epic. Things that are unusual solutions and win a situation are the most most memorable stuff and should be allowed.
10:20 that GM was just week :D the fun of role play and chance is chance you don't want this to happen, don't give item like this to player :D Life is not fair, Luck isin't fair D&D and role playing game are not fair, if you become GM this is nothing compare what can happen :D in a sorry, if you are not up to it that someone or the dice spoils your plans and you cant find a way to make your plans happen, don't be a GM you don't have the neck for it. GM and players are story teller's like life not everything go the way to be perfect than makes it feel more real.
Yes! If The GM treats the important NPC's like PC's, your campaign will come alive in more ways then you can imagine! Keep it up!
Poor Man's RPG is it weird that I did this from the beginning?
@@jpjfrey5673 It's something I should have done!
Poor Man's RPG it's funny cuz I'm playing DM to be able to "play" as multiple characters
@@jpjfrey5673 Ha! I've done the same thing more than once!
9:27 and if that Epic 0+0 did not happen you would not even remember that encounter. :P
Gotta love the load-bearing boss trope! :D
This method of NPC-shaping takes a LOT of work and a LOT of "skill" as a storyteller and (kind of) writer.
Which has great value in and of itself
Amazing video, very useful as always!
this is a good show
