Love all of this! One of my article series on a site I write for is all about cooking for the gaming table, and how to use that to enhance immersion for the players. Plus, a meal with the game notches up the social aspect of the hobby.
I DM a Skype game and I created personalized handmade invitations to different factions in the city. I then mailed them to each of the players at various timed intervals with the story; as a way to give them something tangible they could see and feel while playing over the internet, and as a way for my more shy new players to step forward into roleplaying because they were responsible for decided to take up the invitation and share it with one or all of the group, or not at all. But I do look forward to being a bit extra when we get to have our first full table experience. ^_^
I love watching things like this and thinking about Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson when one first had to pitch the idea to the other and convince him that people would like this game.
I have a 3d printer and possible OVER use it in game prep (scenery, printed NPC's etc. It helps don't get me wrong, but the right music, lighting and ACTUALLY READING AHEAD are just as effective if not more so!
Limericks, my friend, are great. They help open the creative gate. You will find that with time, You will begin thinking in rhyme. And it is easier for all to relate.
This was actually an excellent idea sparker video, thanks for helping me improve my campaign!
