    Interesting that this install leaves the OEM oil cooler in place. Why?

      The OEM piece can aid in warm up and we feel it's best to retain this.

    Quick question. I have a 2013 Zl1 Camaro and I just swapped the block with a 434 CI Ls Next iron dart short block. Will this work with it?

    What’s the difference between the thermostatic vs non-thermostatic plate?

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  Год назад +2

      One has a thermostat in it :). The thermostat will regulate the temperature to prevent overcooling.

    • @isnowyazn
      @isnowyazn 7 месяцев назад

      Without having a thermostat, you will be running your oil through the oil cooler/lines at all times the engine is running.
      Some people will notice slower warmup times, which might not be efficient for you, esp if you live in an area with colder climate.
      You can still theoretically run an oil feed w/o a thermostat, but you’d probably want a smaller oil cooler (with less rows). And if possible, you would want to somehow mount the oil cooler strategically, to where the oil will warm up at a similar rate as stock

    How does this mount with an intercooler? Say I have a procharger.

    • @mishimoto

      The oil cooler sit pretty high up on the front end. However you would want to ensure the your intercooler would not interfere with the mounting location we designed. Otherwise you may have to modify the mounting location if they do interfere.

    Should I fill the oil cooler with oil prior to install to keep from the system running dry for a slight second?

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  3 года назад +3

      Shouldn't be an issue. You can crank the motor over a few times before initial start up if you are worried about priming the system.

    • @isnowyazn
      @isnowyazn 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@mishimotoPeople say you can prime the oil from the motor, by pulling the fuses for the fuel injectors and/or fuel pump. I only see the fuses for the injectors, so this should be okay, right?
      Once injector fuses are pulled, I can attempt to crank the engine 3-4 times, and this should bring up the oil enough? And this is assuming I either leave the cooler lines and cooler itself dry OR pre-filled with motor oil, correct?
      Can anyone else chime in? I’ve asked around on Camaro5 and tried to do my research, but I’m just double-checking. Not a lot of people tend to post on here, and I find that running a similar setup to this is actually pretty beneficial (esp when installed with a factory oil cooler delete).

    Curious, does the oil filter have higher risk of getting damage from bumps and lumps on rougher roads, as it hangs lower after the install? Or is it still high enough it shouldn't be a worry? Thanks!

    • @isnowyazn
      @isnowyazn 7 месяцев назад +2

      I experimented with this, as well as a bigger oil filter (aftermarket, as OEM doesn’t have a compatible one for the thread size). Both still sat barely above the subframe crossmember, so it should be fine. By the time that you’ve struck something beyond that… you probably should be worrying about other issues…

    • @mishimoto

      Some customers choose to fill the cooler and lines prior to starting the vehicle to prevent additional wear on the first startup. We currently do not have a video for the transmission cooler on the Camaro at this time.

    • @isnowyazn
      @isnowyazn 7 месяцев назад +1

      Aside from the oil cooler mounting spot, which uses the threaded holes already there on the Camaro’s radiator support area, you might need to find a different spot… Aside from that, everything else should have still worked out just fine. This should theoretically work for all LS3 applications, and even other similar Gen IV LS engine setups.
      I personally went for a custom setup, using the same exact parts setup as the Mishimoto kit. The only major difference for me, is that I used a oil cooler thermostat that bolted to the oil pan feed, where the 5th gen Camaro V8 (LS3/L99) has the stock oil cooler mounted.
      In my case, you would have to remove the stock oil cooler entirely; and get the extra parts needed for the factory oil cooler delete, before being able to run an oil cooler feed from the oil pan.
      I chose this over the sandwich plate style oil feed, since I heard they had a lot of issues with leaking. Not exactly something I’d want, considering most, if not all, of the factory GM oil coolers for the 5th and 6th gen Camaro’s, are pretty bunk….

    • @mishimoto
      @mishimoto  10 месяцев назад +1

      We suggest retaining the stock piece.

    • @isnowyazn
      @isnowyazn 7 месяцев назад

      A lot of the guys on Camaro5 have ditched the factory oil cooler. Depending on whether you have a 10-11 or 12-15 V8 model, the radiator hosing will be routed a bit differently to the stock oil cooler. If anything, the stock oil cooler is more of a “warmer”, since it is coolant-based and helps the motor oil warm up a bit quicker for the engine.
      I chose to remove my stock oil cooler altogether, due to most ppl dealing with chronic and defective oil leak issues. This, and I would also be getting better oil cooling performance without the interrupted flow of two different cooling mechanisms. Note, that you will have to get a few extra parts in order to run the factory oil cooler delete, and that it is actually perfectly fine to run the car w/o any oil cooler (except for tracking/racing purposes, obviously).
      You can then either run this Mishimoto kit, with the sandwich plate oil feed that goes to your oil filter housing; or you can opt to build your own custom setup, one that preferably mounts to the oil feed that you removed from the oil pan, with the stock oil cooler.
      You can also build a much cheaper oil cooler setup if you go about using an oil feed without a thermostat (non-thermostatic). However, you’ll probably need to size DOWN the oil cooler, and figure out additional ways to keep the engine either cooling better or heating up at startup quicker. You cannot have the both of best worlds, unless you are thermostatic, unfortunately; so that is a price point you must consider.

    • @isnowyazn
      @isnowyazn 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@matrixkakira8190Hopefully you figured it out, but most people decided to remove the stock oil cooler, to get the most optimal engine cooling benefits. That, and the factory oil cooler setup is known to have defects and is prone to have chronic oil/coolant leaking issues.
      Some people have even opted to run without any cooler at all, except this wouldn’t be optimal in the case that you would want to drive the car hard, of course. If you live in a hotter climate area, I would either stick to keeping at least some form of an oil cooler. Living in a cold climate area, you may also want to retain the oil cooler, as the factory unit actually helps to warm up the motor oil for the engine on startup, as it is coolant-driven.

      It's possible for the engine coolant to have a slight decrease, but the results of that would be negligible.
